I spoke to Mary Louve for US senate: DE

As I was doing my research on the DE primary, I couldn't find good enough info on some of the candidates. I'd personally like to see someone to the left of Coons get into to office. While checking out Mary Louve, I didn't see the kind of detailed info I was looking for on her site. So I emailed to request a Zoom coffee chat to learn more about her candidacy (what she's trying to accomplish, why she's running, etc). She answered my email herself and set up a Zoom chat for 8/13. I was the only person that showed up, so I spent about an hour chatting with her about her background, why she's running, her policy positions, etc. I just thought I'd share my experience in case anyone else is looking for info on Louve as they consider who to vote for in the primary.

My impression of Mary was that she was very honest, authentic, and willing to share candidly about who she is and what she believes. I learned that she is left of Coons, veering into DSA territory but that she also has a view or two that would not fall into DSA territory. She seemed really practical with experience in project management, writing/reading bills, working as a government contractor, etc. Her website says she's running for "family," which I was concerned was a bit of a maga dog whistle. But after speaking with her, it seems like face value: she has a family, she's experienced giving birth with and without paid leave and what that difference did to her family, and she's concerned about the affordability crisis and how that impacts families.

We talked about healthcare, affordability, the Epstein files, good trouble, seniors, and women. From comments on another post here, I think her website is confusing people a bit. It's not super detailed and it may lack the politician's polish. But after chatting with her, I'm cool with that. She seems like a person that has experience relevant to legislating and governing that got really pissed off about affordability, etc and decided to run. For me, that's a good sign.

I'm glad I emailed. From first glance at her site, I would have written her off.

She's having another Zoom coffee chat on Monday at 6. If you're voting in the democratic primary, I encourage you to go and chat with her.

EDIT: Here's her next Zoom coffee chat on Monday for anyone interested in talking to her.

Please Vote in the Primaries

Hello, DE! We are getting so close now to early voting beginning and Primary Elections being completed.

As a resident of House District 19, I am sincerely hoping that as many people as possible show up to vote!

There is a ton of information available at

ivote.de.gov

Including early voting sites and times beginning September 2nd.

I have been early voting at the department of elections warehouse for the last several elections and have had an easy time doing so.

I personally am supporting Will Imbrie-Moore for House District 19 and I am hoping you will consider doing so too! Information about Will can be found at

https://www.willfordelaware.com/

While Kim has accomplished many good things during her time in office, I believe it is beyond time for a change. No one, regardless of party, should be able to serve an unlimited amount of terms in office. Kim has had 7 already. While I appreciate her contributions, I believe it's time for a change.

I am so thrilled to see a an intelligent, kind, responsive candidate running! Will listens carefully to your concerns and absolutely wants to help reasonably and responsibly address all of them. Reach out to him if you have questions! He will absolutely answer!

It's time for the younger generations to get in office and start making the changes necessary to have a future as bright as their parents and grandparents.

Please, strongly consider voting in the primaries. Don't be afraid to contact your representatives and any candidates with your questions. Have a first hand interaction before making a decision. I can tell you I've had many with my representative and it's clear she has no concern for what matters to me most at this time. Especially my actual local issues within my district. While her votes matter at legislative hall for the state, it feels like she could care less about neighborhood traffic and our kids safety at bus stops or their overall well being.

Please, do your own research, reach out to your candidates and make a decision.

Your vote counts! Especially in local district elections! Please,VOTE!

Harrington Council Proposes (Weak) Data Center Ordinance

Sharing for awareness for those in Harrington. City Council is presenting a proposed "data center ordinance" on Monday August 17th, at 6:00PM at the Harrington Public Library. I'm using quotes there because the proposal doesn't do anything more than add data centers to the list of Conditional Uses within Manufacturing Zoned lots.

That brings with is some basic rules that would apply simply by virtue of landing in a Manufacturing zone, but it doesn't go anywhere near far enough to really address the problems with data center projects. "Data Center" doesn't actually get defined anywhere, nor does it capture reasonable setbacks, generator restrictions, utility considerations, cooling system requirements, or what to do about abandonment. IMO, the Ordinance here needs much more clarity around the rules, or residents need to tell Council to write up a Moratorium instead to buy more time to go about that. Dover is actually considering that approach right now, AFAIK.

New Castle County's Ordinance (25-101) isn't completely perfect itself but is a much better example of getting the right guardrails lined up. Kent County also recently put rules on the books (LC26-06) and while better defined than what Harrington is proposing, still leaves more work to do.

If anyone is interested in attending and wants to talk in more detail, feel free to reach out. I'm not a Harrington resident myself, but trying to raise awareness so that folks aren't blindsided.

There is something so quintessentially Delaware GOP in literally using AI to generate images to be upset at, because no one is upset.

Delaware Democratic Primary Ballot Options. You can't be serious.

I just got my Delaware ballot, and had a chance to at least do a quick search on the candidates. What are we doing here, folks?

It doesn't look great.
