Is anyone here ACTUALLY trying to cure their dermatographia?

I see a lot of posts on here about people medicating their symptoms with anti-histamines or Xolair and wonder do people realise that this only gives temporary relief and doesn't attack the root cause? Has everyone accepted their fate and will keep medicating hoping it eventually disappears?

There is no way that this medication is good for your body and immunity, and even worse when you stop taking it, symptoms get so much worse.

I've been there with anti-histamines and pulled the plug after a year of using them. Yes it sucked, but it got better after a few weeks because my body started regulating itself again. I stopped getting sick as often and allergies symptoms also regressed

I've started a journey to cure my condition from the inside out and I've never been so comfortable in my skin.

I want to know are other people doing the same?

Is there a reason for sudden onset of dermatograhia?

I might have had a very mild form originally (press hard for a while and an itch will form) but one random day i become a lot more sensitive to things just pressing onto my skin? it is still rather mild but it appears with much lighter pressure. ive had basically no change in my lifestyle whatsoever tho.

Please help before I lose my mind Dermat related

I am 25 female, a NEET PG aspirant from the 2019 MBBS batch and have been experiencing severe generalized itching for the past 3 to 4 months. 155cm 50kg

History of Present Illness
- The itching is significantly worse at night and frequently disturbs my sleep.
- I often wake up with new erythematous papules appearing randomly over the body. They resemble insect bites clinically, though I strongly doubt mosquito bites or obvious external exposure.
- These lesions usually heal over a few days, leaving post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
- I have also experienced formication-like sensations intermittently.

Self-treatment Attempt
Given the nocturnal predominance and crawling sensations, I initially suspected scabies and took:
- Permethrin treatment
- Oral ivermectin
- Strict hygiene measures

However, symptoms worsened rather than improved.

### Response to Medications
- Antihistamines have provided minimal to no relief.
- Pregabalin 75 mg at night significantly reduces symptoms and allows me to sleep/function, though it causes sedation and affects my studies and concentration.

Associated Findings
- After scratching, I develop white dermographic lines/marks.
- I also have a small hyperpigmented patch over the neck, which was clinically diagnosed as pityriasis versicolor by a dermatologist.

Workup Done
I consulted a dermatologist and underwent investigations including:
- IgE levels
- Routine blood investigations

All results were within normal limits except for Vitamin D insufficiency.

Impact on Quality of Life
The itching has severely affected:
- Sleep quality
- Daily functioning
- Mental health
- NEET PG preparation

I feel physically and emotionally exhausted and would really appreciate help in understanding:

  1. Possible differentials
  2. Whether this could represent neuropathic/neurogenic pruritus or another chronic pruritic condition
  3. Better treatment options that are less sedating than pregabalin
  4. Any further investigations or management strategies worth considering

Advice for surviving 7 days w/out antihistamines

I have an allergy test on May 19, but in preparation, I can’t take any antihistamines for seven days, oral or topical. I scheduled the allergy test months ago and, as luck would have it, developed what very much looks like dermatographia about 2 weeks ago. (In other words, the allergy test is not related to the dermatographia - it was simply intended to find out which things I might be allergic to.)

I did a telehealth appointment for the itching/dermatographia, and was prescribed a 5-day course of Prednisone, which I just completed today. While my symptoms are less severe than before the Prednisone, I’m still feeling itchy at night and getting raised welts when I scratch. The only way I can get any sleep is with a Benadryl, but in order to keep this allergy test appointment, I’ll need to give that up very soon.

So, does anyone have any tips for surviving 7 days without antihistamines? Do I just need to give this Prednisone course more time to kick in? Or should I cancel the allergy test and reschedule it after this resolves? Thank you.

2-year-old’s skin condition flaring in humidity – Extremely itchy/painful bumps (Photos included)

Subject: 2-year-old’s skin condition flaring in humidity – Extremely itchy/painful bumps (Photos included)

Post Content:
I am looking for insight into my 2-year-old son’s skin. He’s had eczema since birth. After allergy prick tests and blood work, we changed his diet, which cleared up 98% of his body. However, he has these stubborn, very itchy, and seemingly painful bumps on his arms, hands, and legs that won't go away.

Key Observations:
• Triggers: This specific "bumpy" flare-up gets much worse in the summer when he is playing outside in the humidity.

• Locations: Mostly on his feet (as seen in the photos), but also his arms and hands. He still has some patches on his palms, elbows, and knees.
• The Struggle: Neither his pediatrician nor the dermatologist has been able to give us a definitive diagnosis for these specific bumps.

• Symptoms: It is incredibly itchy and he seems to be in pain from it every day.
Has anyone dealt with a condition that is triggered specifically by heat/humidity like this? We’ve ruled out a lot through his blood work and diet, but we are still searching for relief.

Compression garments that are skin-friendly

I have developed what seems to be hyperPOTS (pending cardiac results) and my PT thinks compression would really help. The problem is, I’ve tried several brands of compression socks but they always leave pressure marks which causes a dermatographia-type reaction. Even regular socks do it sometimes. I can’t seem to find much information about this, but there must be someone with similar issues who has found a good brand, right?

I am severely allergic to latex, and I have found that neoprene causes dermatitis. Otherwise I’m not sure what materials would be an issue (if any). I just can’t handle anything that’s capable of leaving texture marks on my skin. Anyone have some suggestions for socks in particular? Also open to waist compression etc!

Got cetirizine from the doctor is this the best it's going to get ?

Got cetirizine from the doctor for the 1st 2 weeks I'm taking 2 daily one in the morning and one at night, it's taken the itch out of dermotographia which is great as the itching was so intense, but I'm still getting the hives and raised skin from the lightest of scratching/clothes rubbing

I can go up to four daily with the cetirizine before regrouping with the Dr to see how I've gotten on, he said there are other things to try once we have tried the basic cetirizine/loratadine to start

On Monday I'll start one three times daily, remembering the lunchtime one is going to be hard 🙈 will the hives and redness go away ?

I keep checking by lightly drawing on my skin with rounded chopstick hoping there will be no hives or raised redness but that bit is just as bad as it was before

Has anyone had any luck getting rid of the itching and the raised redness/hives ?
