PC hard-freezing and crashes in specific Destiny 2 locations/activities

I’ve been dealing with a strange crash in Destiny 2 for roughly since motm update

The issue is not a normal game crash. In certain activities or locations, the entire PC freezes. The screen usually turns white, green, or just freezes on the last frame. I can still hear game/Discord audio for around 10 seconds, then everything stops responding and I have to hold the power button and restart the PC.

The most consistent example so far is Helio Stat. I can load in, play for a bit, move further into the activity, and then the PC crashes. There are a few other locations/activities where I’ve seen the same thing. Outside of those, it can also happen randomly, but the location-specific crashes are much easier to reproduce.

What I’ve checked

Verified Destiny 2 game files

Updated to the latest NVIDIA driver

Tried FPS caps at 58, 60 and 75

Set almost all Destiny graphics settings to Low or Disabled

Disabled NVIDIA overlay

Disabled Discord overlay

Disabled Xbox Game Bar

No OBS or Overwolf running

Disabled GPU acceleration in Discord and Spotify

Tested with Chrome closed as well

No Steam Overlay

No GPU overclock or undervolt

CPU/GPU temperatures are normal

I also logged the system using HWiNFO during the crashes.

GPU temperatures were around:

GPU core: roughly 60°C

Hotspot: roughly 70–72°C

CPU: roughly 60–70°C

The GPU was also nowhere near 100% load during some of these crashes, and VRAM usage was not close to full.

Windows errors

After the crash, Windows logs:

Kernel-Power Event ID 41

WHEA-Logger Event ID 1: Fatal hardware error

LiveKernelEvent 124

Event Log 6008 after the forced shutdown

There is no BSOD.

The sequence is basically:

Destiny running normally → load certain area/activity → display freezes/turns white or green → audio continues for ~10 seconds → entire PC locks → forced shutdown required.

Hardware

CPU: Intel i5-11500

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1650 dual-fan

Motherboard: Gigabyte B560 AORUS Pro AX

RAM: 16 GB DDR4-3200, XMP enabled

PSU: Gigabyte 650W 80+ Bronze

SSD: WD Blue 500 GB

The system had been running Destiny normally before this

7000 hours of what 5000 came on this very pc and since MoT update the crashesss

I’m mainly trying to figure out whether anyone else is seeing hard system freezes tied to certain Destiny areas or activity transitions, rather than normal GPU load. The fact that some locations reproduce it consistently is what makes this especially confusing Areas like : GOS areas, cabal's watch, helio stat, SRL Russia map,

Massive performance drops out of nowhere

I really hate posting on Reddit so I've tried just about every possible fix I could find online, but nothing has helped. I got back into D2 about a month or so pre monument of triumph and everything was running completely fine until about a week and a half ago. I averaged about 150 fps with essentially maxed graphical settings without many drops, even during more intense content. Now I load into the tower and get 45fps. I can barely maintain 60fps in most content and regularly drop below that. Nothing in my setup or backround programs has changed. I've tried disabling every overlay, Game Bar, background process, and recommended Steam setting possible. I've verified my files and messed with all the windows performance settings, my drivers are up to date, my temps are fine and nothing has helped in the slightest. Any advice, or is it time to just quit the game?

Regional routing issue causing Centipede/Currant errors (with logs)

Hi everyone,
I am writing here to report a connectivity issue for which I have already created a ticket on Bungie’s forum (https://www.bungie.net/it/Forums/Post/265316631).

Since around February, I've been getting constant Centipede errors during login, and various Currant errors when trying to join activities, along with occasional "Unable to contact Bungie servers" and Weasel errors.
Once inside activities, the game mostly works flawlessly, with very few kicks back to orbit. In-game NAT is constantly reported as Open. I have no issues with any other online software or games, and I typically get very low ping (under 25ms) with a fast connection, no packet loss, and no jitter.

Network Setup
Platform: PC
Secondary platform tested: PS4 Slim (same network)
Connection type: FTTH Gigabit FiberCop (TIM Italy)
Router: TIM HUB PRO
IP: Public IPv4 assigned (no CGNAT)
Connection method: Ethernet, directly wired into the modem
NAT type: Open, with DMZ and UPnP
PPPoE: tried enabling it on PC (no improvement)
DNS: default TIM / Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 / Google 8.8.8.8 (no improvements)
Firewall: Defender, turned off during tests
Antivirus: Malwarebytes, turned off during tests
VPN: none at first, used only for testing

In addition to the setup listed above, I disconnected all other devices from the modem, reset the modem multiple times, verified the condition of the fiber optic cable connection and operating parameters, replaced network cables, and contacted my ISP, who confirmed there were no issues between my network and theirs. I disabled all firewalls and tested with my PC in DMZ, with no improvement. I tested a PS4 Slim on the same network and the issue was present there as well. I also set up a PPPoE connection with my ISP, again with no improvement.

After these tests, I found very similar reports from Italy and other Mediterranean countries such as Greece, Turkey and Eastern Europe. These reports started in February 2026 and are still being posted as of July. (The most interesting one being the first made by user “alexmongu”)

Here are a few of the ones I found on the Bungie forums and Steam:

Similar reports from Italy:
https://www.bungie.net/it/Forums/Post/265295877?sort=0&page=0
https://www.bungie.net/af/Forums/Post/265301822?sort=0&page=0
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1085660/discussions/0/562534348863162492/

Eastern Europe and Italy:
https://www.bungie.net/it/Forums/Post/265311449?sort=0&page=0

After reviewing these reports, and seeing that the situation hadn't improved with the latest June update, I tested my connection to the game servers using Wireshark and several network diagnostic commands, including mtr from a distro installed via WSL.

I've compiled a folder of categorized results from all my tests, with timestamps, which I'd be happy to share with Bungie support.

In these tests, I noticed that the Centipede and Currant errors are generated after four failed attempts by my client to re-establish a connection with the server, and after a definitive server hangup during a TCP handshake; occurring during login and matchmaking, respectively.
I tested the same IPs on the same game ports using mtr and pathping, and found that the affected Bungie IPs and often the hops near them, show 50% (sometimes over 60%) packet loss, with ping spiking as high as 9 seconds for some responses.

After noticing this, I configured Mullvad VPN on my system and tested connections through Milan (I live in Tuscany), Vienna, London, Istanbul, and Athens.

Both Vienna and London showed a healthy connection, with 0% packet loss and very low ping; I was finally able to play flawlessly.
This was not the case for Italy, Turkey, and Greece; the same regions many of the reports above come from, which showed up to 95% packet loss and pings of 4+ seconds even in the best-case scenarios. The most critical hops were consistently the destination Bungie server itself, and the last few hops in front of it.

Are there more people with similar issues who are able to share their experience, particularly from the listed regions?
Thank you for reading this far and sorry for the wall of text😅, have a nice day!

🥬I🥬AM🥬CURSED🥬

Cabbage. Cabbage. Cabbage. All I know is cabbage. Every game on my Xbox works fine except D2. I haven't been able to load into anything for five days. It says "network issue" but I've done everything possible except a corded connection because the router is across the house from the TV. Restarted the router. Custom D2 accepting firewall. UPNP is on. Cleared my cache. Triple checked my connection. Even uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Nothing. Cabbage cabbage CABBAGECABBAGECABGACEABCGAVENAVHAHE 🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬🥬 I AM GOING INSANE

Fireteam Voice Chat No Audio

Hi there, I have had this problem for a long time now, I cannot hear any game chat but people in my fireteam can hear my mic, there is no indication that someone is talking in game when there are speaking either. I have tried just about every single fix I could find online,

- Setting my default sound device in my windows settings
- Setting my default sound device in steam
- Setting my default sound device in the xbox game overlay
- Setting my playback as default communication and audio device to my headset
- Tried changing my NAT type
- Creating a new CVARS.XML file
- Resetting all my settings
- Even downloaded D2 on my old xbox to try and see if any sound would come through and nothing.

I've basically given up on any hope of being able to fix this issue as I assume it is an issue with my Bungie account that won't get fixed.

If anyone has had any luck with fixing this issue or knows another option I haven't tried yet please let me know.

Been encountering this issue lots recently

For the past 2-3 months, whenever I try to boot up Destiny, I get kernel security check failures (0x139). Yesterday I dug for hours trying to get to the bottom of it, but to no avail. I tried sfc scannow, DSIM cleanups, uninstalling battleye (which works, albeit until next PC restart or crash). Some people said it might be RAM related (I don't know how to check for that) or Windows 11 related, but I just want my issue to be fixed. Any help or potential solutions would be greatly appreciated.

My GPU utilization is stuck at like 20% while playing the game, even with all other devices closed.

Hello, I have a 3060ti with a 3700x cpu and 16gb of RAM. I'm trying to get back into the game, but my gpu usage stays stuck below 30% most of the time. This wasn't the case the last time I played on the same rig around the time final shape came out.

Any assistance in fixing the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Crashing game XS

I have a friend I play this game with a lot and he’s always had a problem with the game on his console where it crashes and force closes. He’s uninstalled and reinstalled it, unplugged hard drive and replugged it in, nothing seems to stop it from happening. Happens every so often but atleast once daily, any help? TIA

I was suggest to post this from the arc raiders thread. Sorry if this is against the rules :/

So uhh, if somebody potentially changed their Bungie name while under the influence is there a way to contact support about changing it back?

Now, while it's not by any means BAD bad I'm still pretty sure the name is against the guidelines and I'm a bit embarassed to play with it. Can't find anything on the support site to open a ticket. I'm worried that I'll either get reported and potentially get a strike on my account and just generally don't want do submit people to the eyesore that is now my tag. So do I have to wait out the 7 day timer or is it possible to get support to revert the change? I recognize it's my own fault but if somebody know of a way to help that'd be great as I'd love to play, thanks.

Destiny 2 crashing/restarting my PC, usually on the transmog screen

Has anyone experienced something similar? I have verified all game files and it still occurs from time to time?

Discord making my PS5 unplayable

Hey yall, I could really use some help with this since I don’t know what to do. I recently moved into a new apartment and set up my PlayStation a few days ago. Got it connected to the new router that’s shared by me and my roommate and everything worked smoothly.

For the past 2-3 nights, I’ll get on Destiny 2 and join a discord channel through the PlayStation and it’s (no exaggeration) unplayable. Error codes everywhere, can’t launch into any activity, even just sitting idle waiting for people to join my fireteams gets me kicked to the title screen. Not only that, but discord breaks too, as when these errors occur, I can’t hear any other voices in the channel (but according to my friends they can hear me through it all).

It’s becoming SUPER frustrating. However, I tried something last night that “worked” and instead of using discord on the PlayStation, I just joined the call on my phone. After that, gameplay (though not perfect) was pretty much back to normal. But this isn’t ideal because I’d much rather wear my headset and listen to game audio and my friends rather than have to wear AirPods while I play.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated :) thank you!

Battleeye error PLUM

New player as of today and already had 4 crashes in less than an hours gameplay one of which had me reverted to the start. I have windows and drivers all updated and game files verified on steam. According to Bungie its a TOS bug?

Random crashes

I keep getting random D2 crashes after about 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. No logs in event viewer. I've tried new gpu drivers, updating bios, disable/enable xmp, ran memtest86, uninstall d2, tried d2 on windows vs steam, checked temps and I just cannot figure out whats wrong. The game just freezes for a few seconds then closes.
