i made myself a artpiece before i left Prague
i couldnt put everyone in there because i was too lazy to bring all of them and it started to lag my game
I'm blown away by how good the original Deus Ex is
I always heard people praise the first Deus Ex, but I was skeptical. I bought the game anyways since it is so cheap, and holy shit I'm just having pure fun. I feel like I'm a little kid again :D
The story is actually really interesting so far, the levels are unique, the mechanics are solid and the game doesn't even feel that clunky.
My only complaint so far is that most of my augments have been pretty boring so far, the only cool thing I have is a drone, but I didn't find a way to use him yet.
TLDR: game good
Embracer Intends to 'Activate' Deus Ex, Saints Row, TimeSplitters, and Red Faction

Embracer Group split again spinning off their biggest IP, along with plans for IP partnerships
Among them Deus Ex and Thief.
Deus Ex re-imagined on source engine - Troubleshooter: Origin
This is a older alpha from a few months ago, since then its improved quite a bit, I fixed a number of bugs. I just wanted to know what people think.
Its very very rough, its less rough now but I don't want to show it off until a few more things are finished.
I named it troubleshooter: Origin.
Why ?
Nobody has a trademark on this, it was the initial concept name for Deus Ex when it was an idea Warren Spector had when he was at origin studios doing the ultima games.
I can't exactly make a Deus Ex game with embracer group owning the DX intellectual property without being in the wrong.
I have a number of other things to show off when I make the next video im just trying to finish a few more parts of it before I show off the single player and what I am doing that is unique.
I am hoping to strip out most of the half-life 2/gmod assets from it soon too so its unique and build it as stand alone rather then in Garys Mod.
Misc Notes:
I reworked the shield enhancement a bunch since making this and having a closed multiplayer alpha testing session (it defects projectiles now too), added a shader effect for when the enhanced vision is on. Reworked a of mechanics balanced things. Got multiplayer working fully as well as for the unannounced conversation
More info below
Backstory for its single player.
The year is 2058.
You are an unnamed protagonist.
The US government went bankrupt in the 2040's and private company's bought up most of the USA with new york having been bought by a media company called Global Media Corporation.
You got your job because your boss who is kind of a knock off of duke nukem can't work computers or open doors with digital locks.
Your name started with an A and you went to school for computers so he hired you on a spot.
Its like Deus Ex but a bit less linear and you can join any of the factions including staying with the one you're in.
Factions so far
Global Media Corp
The one you start at owns all of new york, one of the biggest company's in the game owns/operates the popular social media platforms, social news platforms, radio stations, etc.Truth Tactics Network
Founded by Axle Stone (Inspired by alex jones).
He got chased out of the USA in the 2040's over unpaid taxes taking off on his private jet with a large amount of gold, cash and drugs.
He lives on a private island off the cost of Barbados, he operates the last free media outlet.
Him and his supporters are designated as a terrorist group in the USA.
- Amish Mennonite alliance.
Founded by Ezekiel after his community of nearly 300 was wiped out by automated bulldozers.
Their community was not documented properly a large retail box store had been planed.
The human who should have been watching the AI powered bulldozers was watching football and as a result his entire community other then the Amish 7 were wiped out entirely.
He gathered all he could in his anti-technology movement.
He proceeded to become the biggest anti-technology force in the game.
But most of the anti-technology demonstrations he does are blamed on Axle Stones group. (With fake AI generated videos of their responsibility to increase viewer engagement).
4.The Collective.
A group of people decided to network their Nanites together.
A physical representation of their collective subconsciousness eventually formed called "The Voice" a creature created entirely out of nanites able to shape shift to any form.
They mainly operate out of an abandoned underwater NSA listening post off the cost of new york. But later expand to an abandoned intelligence gathering space station in orbit.
They John Gault style recruit people disappearing them when they want their expertise never to be seen or heard from again.
If the player build is low intelligence they won't ever be captured/recruited/offered to join.
The map in this feature will center around this games equivalent to Jo Jo fine, but also have a very large number of in depth side-quests.
I wanted some feedback before I dump a bunch of hours to see if the Deus Ex community likes the direction im going in and hear what you guys want more so.
Inspirations will be mainly from
- Deus Ex (2000) with some from Invisible war.
- Bioshock.
I never finished human revolution or tried the other one. They didn't appeal to me at all.
PS: Expect Jim Bowen's popular BowenMod in the multiplayer when it goes to beta. Hes interested once my codebase is stable in revisiting it.
PS: If you want in on this to help or even to beta test end me a DM here I will toss a newer build on a gmod server. I could really use someone who knows how to rig things and is good at blender.
Some thoughts on the meta-plot of the revived Deus Ex series
By "revived," I mean what was created under the Eidos umbrella.
I'm currently replaying Mankind Divided, and as I play, some thoughts are arising:
- Prague makes no sense. The entire game portrays Prague as a police state, but Prague is literally a carbon copy of California; homeless people, drug addicts, and homeless drug addicts are everywhere. Dirty people sleep on the sidewalk next to the police checkpoint. For a "police state" and "the epicenter of oppression of augmented people," these police can't even maintain order on the streets. The dissonance is catastrophic. This isn't a police state with apartheid; it's a classic picture of liberal failure.
- Augmented people have been turned into an entire race. The "natural" versus "augmented" conflict is clearly inspired by the old "white" versus "people of color" conflict. All other identities are overwritten by it. It makes no sense. Eidos needed to create a social allegory for "racial oppression," and they sacrificed common sense for this purpose. People with expensive implants living in sewers—it's the same catastrophic dissonance. What happened to their class, ethnicity, religion, citizenship? Why did all these identities magically evaporate? Because of "The Incident"? It's so far-fetched that it's long since snapped.
- A childish take on conspiracy theories and liberal prejudices. Eidos clearly exploits conspiracy theories through a liberal lens, where there are rich oppressors and poor oppressed, necessarily with real-world parallels, and necessarily within a liberal context. The original Deus Ex was steeped in the spirit of '90s conspiracy theories: a mishmash of conspiracy theories (Majestic 12, the Illuminati, FEMA, black helicopters) with no clear political direction. It was a postmodern cocktail, where right-wing and left-wing fears mingled into a shared paranoia. The system was simultaneously absurd and omnipotent. Eidos translated this into the mainstream liberal discourse of the 2010s: the rich oppress the poor, corporations manipulate the media, "systemic racism" against the augmented. Conspiracy theories became a predictable metaphor for the current political agenda.
My conclusion: Eidos needs to hire an educated, well-read, cynical screenwriter like Avellone, not an amorphous, gender-neutral, blue-haired biomass.
Working around killing Anna Navarre yourself
https://reddit.com/link/1tibbs3/video/itrnvyo2182h1/player
I found a loophole when it comes to handling Anna non-lethally. The rules are simple as long as your input is not responsible for the death of an npc the run still continues. What happened here is as soon as Anna approaches the player, JC for some reason on his own without the player's input throws the object he is holding. In this case the object is the TNT crate and it exploding results in Anna's death. Yes...so it is possible to maintain the canon of JC killing Anna without the player actually doing it...(that sentence sounds insane but it is true). It seems when the cutscenes play it is programmed for the player character to throw the object he is holding.
It might not be be clear in the footage but you will see JC throwing objects on his own when you play it.
Signed copy of Deus Ex Human Revolution
Found this in a local game shop, standard price of £8. Looks like it's been signed by the lead actor, can't believe someone traded it in. Thought it was a cool find, no idea how many might exist.
Helios will speak. Year of our union, 125.
For the record, I don't think we're going to reach singularity anytime soon, if ever.
Anything I should know before playing the first game?
Hello, I am a big fan of immersive sims and I have probably played every modern title in this genre.
So now Im looking into playing some of the older games. I heard that the first Deus Ex game is the best one in the series, so I bough it.
My first question is, what is the best way to play the game? I have the game of the year edition and I installed a kentie launcher to fix the resolution. Is there anything else I should get? Or should I play some of the more extensive mods?
My second questions is, how should i generally play the game? I don't have much experience with old games, so I'm hoping its not going to be too clunky. I played first couple of minutes in the first level and the stealth feels kinda weird? I have a tranq crossbow but when I shoot someone they run around for like 10 seconds before becoming unconscious, so I'm not sure how to play stealth.
