Having a hard time learning how to shade my artstyle

I've been trying to utilize the digital tools more since I would render like I paint traditionally like in the reference photo but want to streamline the process faster since thats a thing.

First finished digital drawing✨

Hey guys, I just recently brought a tablet, and an app to draw in. Procreate to be exact. anyway, I don’t really draw digitally, and each time I tried it looked… bad😂😂😭😭 i mainly tried drawing people there, but it didn’t work out so I decided to just draw smth to get used to drawing like that.

I REEEEEALLY need feedback and advices on how to draw digitally. I really want to someday make a webtoon. I have a story, and some character concepts, but I need to learn to draw on my iPad.

if anyone has any kind of advice, I would really appreciate that.

also, if any of u already have a webtoon, I would really want to ask questions on ur process and drawing the thing.

thank uuuu✨✨✨

When asking, try to include what budget you have, and what alternatives you've been looking at. Help folks help you.

Links to tablets should go to the tablet manufacturer, not vendors (like amazon and the like).

What do you guys think? I’m trying to improve my observation skills using Kim Jung Gi drawings as a reference

I’ve been moving forward without direction. I like artists like Marc Brunet and SamDoesArts, whose art is semi-realistic with a bit of anime or Disney style in between. But right now, I feel lost, practicing anything I can think of with no roadmap

Trying to choose a tablet for digital drawing, please help

Hi everyone! I want to buy a tablet for digital drawing but I can't decide. I am mostly traditional, previously did a bit of digital art using Krita on my pc. I'm trying to decide between a Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra 12/512 GB  and 13-inch iPad Air Wi‑Fi 512GB with Apple Pencil Pro. What’s making the decision difficult is that the prices are pretty similar where I live. Both are great in terms of hardware so my concerns are more about user experience.

My current setup:

  • Samsung phone (23 Ultra)
  • Windows PC
  • No other Apple devices

Main usage for tablet:

  • drawing/animation
  • note taking
  • media consumption
  • maybe some light productivity/multitasking

Pros/cons for iPad Air:

  • (+) Procreate and Paper apps
  • (+) People constantly saying iPads are the best for artists
  • (-) People say file management is really annoying
  • (-) Storage problems
  • (-) In long term performance/battery life decreases
  • (-) Only 60Hz screen refresh rate
  • (-) I don't have any apple device, so compatibility is sus, plus UI is unfamiliar to me

Pros/cons for the Tab S11 Ultra:

  • (+) huge AMOLED 120Hz display
  • (+) better multitasking/file management
  • (+) seems to fit my Samsung + Windows ecosystem better
  • (+) feels like much better hardware value overall
  • (+) more durable compared to apple
  • (-) Drawing apps are not on the same level as Procreate

One thing I’m especially worried about is the iPad Air being only 60Hz. My phone is already 120Hz, so I’m not sure if the iPad would feel less smooth or bother me long-term.

I’ve also seen multiple posts from people who bought an iPad then returned it for a Samsung tablet later, so now I’m even more uncertain. I heard Krita works well on Samsung tablets so I don't think I would be unhappy with a Samsung one but i don't want to regret not trying Ipad either. I saw some people saying Procreate is overrated, great for beginners but does not offer same level as some other apps to more professional works. Procreate is basically the main reason I am considering an Ipad so I don't want to be disappointed after making a huge purchase.

For people who might have experience with both or just have knowledge about them:

  • Did the 60Hz on the iPad Air bother you?
  • Is Procreate really great as some people says? Does it have negative/lacking features?
  • Which one felt better for long-term daily use?
  • If you already had a Windows + Android setup, did the iPad ecosystem mismatch become annoying?
  • What is your experiences with apple pencil?

I’d really appreciate honest experiences rather than “Apple vs Samsung” fanboy takes. Also is 512GB too much for art purposes? I was originally thinking 256GB but I don't know if it is enough.

How do you buy subscriptions on Ipads (or any device) that doesn't have app store?

I have an art project to work on in Ibispaint that requires Subscriptions if i want canvas sizes on animation.

The drawing device i mostly rely on is my schools iPad.

Which restricted app store (it's literally gone.)

Is there any ways to purchase the subscription?

- I do not have any other ios devices.

- I am less likely to be able to use any other drawing app.

Thank you so much for answering

I bought a huion kamvas 13 pen display tablet as a beginner. Did i buy it too soon? should I have bought a less expensive beginner model?

I'm in the middle of pursuing an engineering degree. it's been a year now and i haven't really used it. I wanna learn doing hand animation, digital painting, etc. But will this tablet be disfunctional by the time I'm spending more time with it?? I've attached some of the stuff I started out with on it

My Better Half

A portrait I drew of my wife. It took a little over 10 hours, which I'm honestly surprised that I got it done that quickly.

Let me know what you think!

I've been drawing for four weeks and need help.

So, I am an absolute beginner at drawing. I started four weeks ago and feel completely stuck. I’ve tried drawing things around me—objects from my surroundings, images from the internet, or illustrations from books—but the results look absolutely terrible. That’s why I searched for tutorials on YouTube, but the advice I keep getting is always the same: "Just draw." However, I’m not seeing any improvement. Around day 14 or 15, I started practicing by drawing cubes, lines, circles, and cylinders, and I gave it another shot today. It still looks incredibly dismal. Honestly, I don't know how to proceed; I don't know what I should be drawing to actually see some progress, or what I should focus on next. I originally wanted to share some images I like to illustrate the style I’m aiming for, but as I understand it, that would be against the rules. So, I’ll just say that the aesthetic I’m going for is similar to that of anime, or video games like *Genshin Impact* or *Zenless Zone Zero*. Can anyone here help me out and tell me what I should do?

The Long Walk Home

An artwork I made not that long ago.

What originally started as a spontaneous doodle, inspired by the changing of seasons in late 2025, quickly came to a grinding halt as I struggled to progress any further in this piece. No matter what I tried I couldn't develop this drawing any more.

Fast forward 4 months, its finally done and I'm so proud of it!! 🤩🤩

Digital Plein Air

Here is a digital plein air piece that I did a while back. I focused on trying to have a clear contrast between the warms and the cools in terms of saturation.

I think it turned out looking pretty well so I wanted to share it :>
