Havanese, Maltese, Poodle

Good morning. I have recently gotten a dog from the shelter he was listed as a Maltese, which I see the shelter list any small dog with white fur. We have had him about a month. I’m not used to small dogs having been the previous owner of 2 Siberian Huskies. This dog’s primary method of communication is growing and grumbling, happy, potty break, frustrated, wants to play etc there is growls and grumbling. He also barks at any noise which we are working on. His favorite thing is to play fetch. He can play fetch in the house for 30 minutes or more. He loves toys, balls, tug of war and he likes to sleep on the bed and be on the couch with us. He is also very bossy if we don’t notice he wants to play fetch and will push on me with his paws and growl and shove the ball at me until I notice. He is 8 years old and weighs 14.8 pounds. Here are some photos.

Would this be the right dog for me?

My birthday is this Christmas and I really want a Dachshund for my birthday, I’m very attached to getting one and they’re genuinely my spirit animal. But I’ve been researching and everything is saying they need a lot of time devoted to them and I’m nervous about IVDD. I go to a performing arts school so I’d be away from the dog on weekdays and maybe longer after school/weekends for rehearsals and things like that. I also have a very active social life so I do go out often. If needed though, I would cut back on hanging out to support the dog and let it out etc. Should I try to get one or look at different options? And if so, does anyone know a good small dog breed that is affectionate but can be at home without me for hours at a time? I have family to hang out with the dog and another dog at both my houses.

TLDR; I want a dachshund but I go to an arts school and have an active social life so I don’t know if I should look for another option and get one later in life or try it out.

Hey! New here, any guesses on what breed she is?

Just under 5 months old and 16ish lbs. Pretty lanky and lean, 15 inches at the shoulder. Vet thinks she’ll be 35-40 lbs and 20-22 inches.

Super smart, loves to sniff. When she sees something, she has a sort of hunting dog stance with her legs stretched out behind her.

Other traits: Black streak on tail, very vocal with all sorts of noises, completely stretches out when she lies down.

Thanks!

TL;DR, she’ll be medium sized and sleek, has many hunting dog traits.

What breed do we think

It’s not really important I’m just curious about what breed he might be, the person I got him off of says he’s a border collie and a Australian shepherd mix but I was wondering if he could be mixed with anything else just because he’s not very fluffy he’s a little over a year old

Right breed for our family?

My wife and I are looking to get a pup in a year or two and are considering a couple of breeds. Before kids we’ve had a senior boxer and a young dogo. We had to re-home the dogo right after giving birth to our first (she became very aggressive to our boxer and there was an opportunity to rehome her to a dog trainer with a farm. We get regular updates and have visited. She is doing great!).

Our boxer died two years ago and we ready for another pup. I’ve been interested in Dobermans for a while. One thing that “concerns” us is we’ve read that they typically bond to one member of the family. There are five of us (three kids under 7) so we need a dog that will be be bonded to all of us.

Those with kids / multiple people in the home, is this worry over blown or do they really only stick to one person?

Happy to get any other tips on the Doberman as a family dog! (We plan on doing IPO / protection work as well).

The Icelandic sheepdog

The Icelandic sheepdog

Hi!

Í would love to see photos of your IC’s, where they live ❤️

I had 2 a male and female who have now crossed the rainbow due to old age 🥺🌈

Milla the female was short haired tan/fawn with white face-marking (half of head/chee

Villingur (means Wildling) was longhaired red with dark overlay/sable. I’m not really familiar with the colors in English so I’m just guessing on the likely names 🙈

The Icelandic sheepdog is in my opinion among the best breeds I’ve known but I’ve fostered 40 dogs through the years. Mine were always happy, followed my tempo and were ready in action as well as loving cozying at home. Loves EVERYBODY and everything and loved playing with the kids and were patient and gengtle around them.

I now have a Labrador and they have much in common with the Icelandic sheepdog .

Though the Icelandic sheepdog has a reputation to bark a lot, mine didn’t even bark when someone rang the doorbell. They barked when playing but besides from that, not at all.

For those unfamiliar with this 99% perfect breed AMA☺️

* No preference , purebred preferred but absolutely willing to rescue. No poodles or doodles

  1. Describe your ideal dog.

* medium-large

  1. How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?
