Boyfriend interested in drag, want to be super supportive! Advice?

My boyfriend has recently become much more interested in drag, and I'd really love some advice on how I can support and encourage him.

For a little background, we're a heterosexual couple, been together a long time, and this has been a newer journey for both of us. He's started opening up about this side of himself in a way he never really had before, and it's honestly been really special to witness. He's already bought a few really cool outfits, absolutely loves going to drag shows, and gets so excited whenever we talk about drag or watch performances together.

The thing is, he's incredibly shy. He's the type of person who hates being the center of attention in everyday life. But when we're at home and music comes on, he completely transforms. He's actually a fantastic lip-syncer with great facial expressions, and I genuinely think he has natural stage presence when he lets himself have fun. I keep telling him that one day I'd love to see him try an amateur drag night if and when he feels ready. I would be his biggest cheerleader, but I also don't want to pressure him into anything before he's comfortable.

I'm completely new to the drag world, so I'm hoping to learn from all of you. What are some of the best ways I can encourage him without being pushy? For those of you who perform, what did you wish someone had done for you when you were just starting out? What helped build your confidence enough to perform in front of people?

I'd also love recommendations for beginner-friendly makeup brands, wigs, padding, corsets, shoes, jewelry, adhesives, or any other essentials. Are there YouTube channels, books, or creators that are especially helpful? Are there products that are worth spending more money on and others that are perfectly fine to buy on a budget?

If you've ever done amateur nights, what are they like? Are they generally welcoming to first-time performers? Is there anything someone should know before signing up? I'd love to understand what that experience is like so I can help him feel prepared if that's something he decides he wants to do in the future.

More than anything, I just want him to know that he has someone who believes in him. Seeing how happy drag makes him has made me want to learn everything I can so I can support him in the best way possible. Whether he ends up performing someday or just enjoys dressing up and expressing himself at home, I want him to know I'll always be in his corner.

I'd love to hear your stories, advice, or anything you wish your partner...or even your friends..had done for you when you first started. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this!

corsets that don't show under clothing?

hi all, i'm a drag performer who's been lurking this subreddit for probably as long as i've been performing (since 2019) and i finally need to take the plunge with buying a corset. i've never made it a necessity but i'm currently without padding so i need a lil shaping lol

what is everyone's favorite brand of corset? doesn't need to be steel-boned/super high quality. preferably under $50. i'd rather not support Amazon but i can't find many actual corsets on resale sites like Depop. i'll link a cheapish one from Amazon that looks like what i need, and a link below that of a half corset kind of thing that i like but i can't imagine it actually does much for cinching.

First time hosting Drag Bingo: Lessons & Tips!

I produced and hosted a Drag Bingo for the first time last night!
When I was preparing for the show I struggled to find posts with tips for first timers, so I thought this post would be a good way for us to share tips and tricks we’ve learned along the way. If you have tips please share them!! My takeaways from last night:

-Invest in a large barrel with big balls to draw. Mine was tiny and the tiny balls were a pain to draw and to read.
-If you think you have enough bingo dabbers, you don’t. Get more.
-We did NOT have enough tables. I wish I bought a pack of clipboards for folks to use.
-The “full house” game/round is too long for this setting, and folks struggled with rounds that weren’t basic bingo. People are tipsy and can’t hold their attention span long enough.
-I had a stage manager to keep everyone on track, calm & well. Keeping drag performers on time and set is like herding cats, this was WELL worth the cost.
-Decide on a pay structure with performers and crew ahead of time, and make sure everyone’s happy with it. Reach out, be proactive in asking people’s expectations.
-Have change available for people to swap out their larger bills.
-Have a cut-off date for folks to submit songs, starting positions & requests for the lineup.

I am so lucky that I had a great audience, a very supportive cast and crew, and a venue that took care of us. ❤️

I won my first drag competition!

(IG @venom_valentine)

After 3 years of drag I’ve finally won a competition!! The last time I competed was April 2025, so I wasn’t expecting to win at all.

Ignore how crunchy some of the photos are, they’re screenshots from videos lol. I’m so shocked and also proud of myself! :,)
