Advice for handling inquisition on nightmare with trials

Im currently at level 7 and have gotten to starting in your heart shall burn. Im playing on nightmare with walk softly, even ground, take it slow and grizzly end. Its been a struggle but i appreciate it for how it exposes all the complexity in the game in terms of gear and progression.

My problem right now is that i just cant get through in your heart shall burn. While defending the ballista i get whacked either by the second group or, at best the third. Theres this issue where the party AI is constantly trying to hug eachother, leading to my mages getting oneshot by fatass templars who have a bar of guard immediately. Its hard to say for me what exactly is the reason. Things can go well and then, in a moment, half the party gets one-shot and im left clumsily trying to do something with whoevers left.

My inquisitor is a two-handed warrior with the chain pull, the spin riposte that knocks enemies down and the ground pound that knocks down enemies. Im using a sword and shield Blackwall with the taunting shout, charge, hook and warhorn. I doubled up on mages with Vivienne, who has the immolate with the no cooldown upgrade, dispel, barrier and barrage. Solas has barrage, barrier, winters grasp and ice wall, as well as the passive that causes barriers to explode and freeze. All of them are wearing crafted gear with mods for base stats (strength, magic, constitution). Vivienne is using the wrath of Lovias and Solas is using the dreamweavers staff and the two warriors use crafted weapons. All have crafted upgrades slotted.

Im considering rebounding and doing filler in the hinterlands and the coast to hopefully reach level 8. I suppose i could minmax my gear more by grinding materials, but short of what ive done now, i dont know what kinds of stat packages are optimal for crafting results. I do have all the recipes from redcliff purchased.

Id appreciate any feedback, explanations and elaborations. I get its aspirational content and i can "just lower the difficulty and increase it back latter" but i dont wanna. Its tedious and frustrating but even so i wanna do it.

Some screenshots of my mage Lavellan.

Restarted Inquisition a few days ago, and I’ve been absolutely into it again. I normally play as a human male mage, but I did want to try to play as a male Dalish elf since I thought it would be neat to have that symmetry with my Hero of Ferelden. Something about massive continental issues seems to make everyone want to seek out the nearest elf, I suppose.

Console images, so tragically, no mods. I think he turned out rather well though.

Introducing Theneras Lavellan

Or Thene for short. She’s a strong yet kind woman caught between her belief in the Maker and her Dalish traditions. Her mother was a city elf who fled persecution and her father is the Halla keeper of her clan. She grew up on stories of Andraste’s courage and Elgar’nan’s might. Now she finds herself, a Dalish elf, revered as the Herald of Andraste.

It’s been almost 3 years since I’ve played inquisition, it’s my second favorite Dragon Age game after Veilguard. So excited for this play through. Gonna be my first time romancing Solas, the evil egg lol. I just started but I love my new Inky already.

How do you get this shard from the Hinderlands?

I took this screenshot when I only had 12/22, but then went and got all the others, leaving this one shard left. I struggled immensely, but finally completed the In Your Heart Shall Burn quest and reached Skyhold, only to realize I probably progressed too far to be able to return to the Hinderlands.

elves that look like their cards??

hi im brand new to playing dragon age, literally bought it today having heard of the game but knowing nothing about it, i opened the game and saw all the gorgeous artwork for the race selection screen and got so excited about how unique the designs were - especially the elves as i havent seen a fantasy game go in that direction, and i thought it made so much sense with why theyd face discrimination, overall just a really cool design choice

lo and behold i get into character customisation and the elves are just humans with pointy ears, like every other fantasy game ever. why are they discriminated against? just put a hat on!

anyway sorry, im part complaining but mostly asking if there are any mods at all that restore this look for the elves, with the unique face shape and skin tone?? i was so excited man

Getting third-partied by Brontos

Does anyone hate when you're fighting a giant in Emerald Graves and your magic bursts from your wand randomly hitting a Bronto nearby and now you have to fight all those fucking Brontos AND the giant at the same time.

That shit is so annoying.

Convince me to side with the mages

Im replaying Inquisition for the first time in years. And im trying to decide Mages or Templars. and basing the decision mostly on information my Inquisitor knows, not what I, the Player, knows.

Ive always sided with the Templars in the past despite their actions in Kirkwall and other Circles, partly because having people trained to fight magic is usually a good thing and partly because "hey lets add a ton of Magic to this hole on reality" sounds like a TERRIBLE idea.

but im curious, why would your Inquisitors side with the mages?

Any official info about the size of Ferelden and Orlais?

Wasn't sure which flair to use. Hopefully this works.

Working on a fanfic and I'm realizing I have no real idea how big either country is, which is important information I need in order to work out travel times and such. I've tried doing some Google searches but all I've turned up are fan estimations. Maybe because that's all there is, but I figured I'd ask here just to be sure.

Just Finished my first trilogy run! (Spoilers)

I played as a Female Qunari Jedi (Knight Enchanter).

I think this is the best of the trilogy to be honest. I think its primarily because of the amount of world you get to explore and the overall look of the game is better (so you can kinda attribute the fact of me liking it to it being released the latest in the trilogy)

The classes are varied enough that I enjoyed playing as each character.

The characters are actually funnier to me compared to the previous games and they felt more different from each other. The only knock I have for the characters is some of them are kinda buzzkills looking at you Solas and Vivienne. Cassandra being a smut enjoyer is funny, too. The most underrated companion would be Doran for me. I kinda admire his nationalism and awareness of the terrifying things that Tevinter has done, but still hopes he can make it better. Cullen's entire arc throughout the games is solid as well. Josephine would be my romance if she wasn't just an ambassador, I ended up with Sera who's pretty cute and funny, too. The Blackwall twist was super unexpected and admirable as well. Iron Bull is my Qunari big bro.

The plot is low key gripping. The fact that you actually go around the continent and fix breaches actually feels like you're fixing the world one breach at a time. The set pieces kinda falls short at times i.e. Wicked Hearts, some parts of the time travel quest for the mages, The dragon you tame, What Pride has Wrought, and the Final Boss fight (I breezed through Cory). The best one would be Here Lies the Abyss. I really loved the Fade (ironic since Fade from DAO sucked) and the Castle Adamant.

All in all, I think this is the best of the trilogy and any comments/inquires of my run would be greatly appreciated. Also what are your thoughts on my Inquisitor? She looks sick af like a dragon born Qunari

Crashing out over an import

Alright so this last round of inquisition that I played I had ported over all my choices from origins and 2, everything branched over right. All my choices were present for the most part. Then I noticed something 106 hours in. I had done the dark ritual with Morrigan but Kieran wasn’t present which confused me. I figured it may have been a bug. I just checked my codex for my HOF, and it wasn’t my hero of Fereldan. I played as a Male Surana who romanced Zevran and performed the dark ritual with Morrigan to save his own skin. Instead it was a the martyr Dalish elf port that’s automatic if you haven’t played the previous games. It was such a smack to the face because everything else had ported properly EXCEPT FOR MY HERO HIMSELF. Now I’m furious. I’m not going to redo the entire playthrough but I am fuming over this. I have another playthrough going at the moment on a completely different world state so the second I can check about my other HOF porting properly I’m going to.

(Edit): The new run worked and my second HOF ported properly! I’m so happy to share that my Aeducan warden has made her way to inquisition. I know the warden has very very minimal impact but it meant the world to me to see her mentioned. I used my Aeducan warden instead this time, and it worked out. >!Unfortunately this does mean I will be leaving Hawke in the fade. I can’t leave my girls husband Alistair behind it would be rude after all the work to get her into the worldstate.!<

Idk something about an older man with a difficult past (who also doesn’t think he deserves the affection he receives ) just does it for me. Maybe that’s why I was in love with!< Arthur Morgan too 😭

Struggling to complete In Your Heart Shall Burn

I'm level 11 and my party and I (me, a mage, Dorian, Iron Bull and Cassandra) keep dying and getting overwhelmed during the retaking of the south trebuchet.

Since this is the second fight, after the defending the north trebuchet, my party and I are all at half health walking into this south trebuchet fight with two health potions left. The second wave of that fight is always where we die.

There's supply caches but I can't seem to interact with them to refill on health potions. Like, there's nothing to click on.

Because this is a main quest I don't have the luxury of choosing to leave and do something else.

I've never been great at video games and I've never played a DA game until now, but I'm just a bit frustrated at consistently dying at this one spot.

Any advice, please?

My Faithful Inquisitor

Meet Andy 💕 (a little on the nose…)

Actually LOVED role playing a non-skeptic for once lol (it was also my first time playing as a human and a warrior)

Believing you’re the herald also makes you work that much harder for Sera’s romance, it’s so adorable and rewarding.

(But everyone being rude as hell when you’re asking what gift you should get her??? DON’T PISS ME OFF 😤)
