Silly Petition to Change Dungeon Crawler Carl Acronym

I know this is like the least important issue in the world right now, but I personally think it's important (slightly) to point out the DCC acronym is already being used by Dungeon Crawl Classics, an established game in the TTRPG space. Using a different short hand could prevent metaphorically stepping on the toes of another subsect of the TTRPG community, for things like popping up in search engines, ect.

Just a small way to say everyone wants to play nice with one another. I'm personally probably going to refer to it as Carlrpg to avoid confusion.

Is this too far from what DCC is?

Okay I was thinking as an overall plot, to have while the PC's sleep, a deity (like the real creator or something) show up in their dreams, basically saying if they want to end all the dungeon crawls forever, they have the make it to the 18th floor and free the deity. The deity is basically what powers the Dungeon AI, hence how it's able to do what it does. They can't talk about the deity outloud, because then the Ai will catch onto them and aggressively try to kill them while trying to drive up ratings (so gruesome horrible death). It'll probably also be explained that the diety tries to find a group every dungeon, but communicating, blessing them, and being used as a battery for the Ai is tiring, so usually it can only try this with one group per Crawl. The deity will be able to slightly tip the scales in their favor now and then, and try to help them once in a while with advice when they sleep. Plot Twist at the end: the Ai says that their world can be restored to what it was before the Dungeon was opened, if they decide to just leave the deity behind. Soooo... Any thoughts?

Potential Class Idea: Weekend Warrior

After seeing all the class ideas that got imported over from the crowdfunding campaign it inspired me to come up with my own.

Weekend Warrior: support/utility class

The epitome of "work hard, play hard", this person spends their weekdays leading their coworkers to success, and their weekends doing physical activities. They run the gamut from yoked car salesman named Chad who can't shut up about the new hold they mastered in Jiu Jitsu, to blue collar managers putting in 60 hours a week that just need to blow off stress. This class has a mix of leadership based abilities and physical utility abilities.

skills tied to this class,

Physical- pick 3 from this list: cycling (mountain biking or road), running, climbing (gym or rock), martial arts (choose), obstacle course racing, skiing, parkour, swimming.

Mental/Social- pick 3 from this list: insight, Intimidate, leadership, persuasion, negotiation, deception, tactics, taunt.

Abilties

Motivate: buff to self and party members, either temporary bonus to attacks and casting, or advantage on a roll of their choosing during that scene

The Team Needs You: make a charisma test to break an ally free from a charm effect or mental debuff. If that doesn't work with the mechanics of the game then all party members would get a bonus to resist such effects while the weekend warrior is in the group.

Manuever: gives a temporary bonus to dodge or evasion

Scramble: temporary buff for increased movement and bonus to any kind of test to climb, jump or overcome physical obstacles.

Let me know what you think, and of course, share your own class ideas.

What are some fun achievements you think your crawler will start with?

I'll go first.

New Achievement!!!

Bronze, Who's Axing Achievement

Wow, that's a crappy axe!!

Congratulations, crawler, you brought the bare minimum of a weapon in the form of that axe! You get the bronze scrappy box.

New Achievement!!!

Silver Prepared Achievement

Wow, crawler, I've only seen a few who actually managed to bring a crafting tool with them, but never one who had a mortar and pestle that smelled like cat pee!

Care to explain?!?

You get a silver ingredients box.

New Achievement!!!!

Silver You Brought A Boat Achievement!

Now, crawler, we know it's fun to have a form of transportation, to ride the sea and discover new horizons. But you didn't do that. You brought a boat from land, and that was even more insane. Here's a Silver Seafarers box.

Lootable Corpse. How deadly do you want your game to be?

Let‘s talk crawler death. It’s everywhere in DCC. Will it be everywhere in the DCCRPG?

Is your party of plucky crawlers be the next Royal Court, (are you destined to be?) or will you all get shivved by a goblin or melted by a llama before entering the Training Guild.

My biggest outstanding question for the game will be how you circle that square. The World Dungeon is far more dangerous than many settings, millions die in the first floor. Every floor whittles it down more.

There’ll invariably be some sort of plot armor, Soulslike/roguelike games are niche, but unless there’s a legitimate feel of danger, I’m not sure how the game can capture the feel of the series.

So question to those who’ve made it this far - are you expecting players to experience narrative arcs approaching Donut and Carl’s success, something closer to Rebecca W. (killed by Frank Q), or something in between? Would you be disappointed if it was too far either way?

Levels and Floors

I'm making some preliminary notes, like what themes the neighborhood on the first floor my crawlers will enter into will be, etc. And one of the things I'm going to do is not follow the books themes verbatim. The general structure, sure like the divisible-by-3 floors are Scolopendra levels and stuff like that. My Overcity in floor 3 won't be Grimaldi's, I'm currently thinking about a Wild West Boomtown with Deadlands vibes, given we're in Texas. But it'll be an Overcity with the same Scolopendra mythology.

I have a few ideas but don't have floors 5 and up even with a 2-3 word description yet, but I know roughly what I plan to do with the first 4, and so now I can start preparing maps and tokens or minis or whatever.

So anyway, all that background exposition because I've never learned brevity, but here's my dilemma.

I'm sourcing my notes about Mob levels and approximate Crawler Levels for each floor from the wiki, which stops telling us the mob levels and approximate crawler level range after floor 2.

Obviously if I was patient I could see what the official rulebooks say, but if I was patient, I wouldn't be posting this! Please help! Does anyone know the mob level ranges and crawler level ranges that aren't on the wiki for each floor?

what tier(s) gets me everything on offer? Is there anything considered NOT worth picking up?

this campaign had me messed up at the start and led me to kind of avoid it (not to mention that fact that i've also backed croc and the hard covers of book 2 and book 3).

i think i'm hitting carl product overload.

but games are kind of my thing, so i really want these.

what gets me all the gaming stuff for both games?

is there any scenario where i don't have to pay a continuing subscription to get everything?

What are your ideas for floors in the dungeon?

Hey fellow crawlers

I‘ve been playing ttrpgs for many a year now, and my favorite thing about them is using them as a creative outlet. We don’t know enough about the rules to really do much designing, but my brain has been wondering what kind of floors I might like to design.

I’m thinking a floor that is like all interiors of stores would be cool. Huge Walmart style spaces that transition into indoor shopping mall interiors that then lead to a bass pro shop. It would be something everyone is familiar with, should make for some good action set pieces, and would be a good way to riff on late stage capitalism a bit.

What ideas do you have for floors in the dungeon?

How to manage such massive floors?

Having floors so massive that you can fit the thousands of crawlers feels daunting.

Anyone got ideas for making the floors feel as massive as they should be without breaking our brains having map out all of floor? knowing players won’t experience 80+ percent of the early floors or meet most of the millions/thousands of other crawlers has me struggling with scope.

Just found this Subreddit!

Super excited to see this space already existed.

I just shared the link to this subreddit to the forums of the current Renegade DCC RPG Backerkit campaign - expect an influx!

I'm currently #1 on the Community Leaderboards over there and looking forward to getting my hands on the finished project.

I see you have Rina & Renegade as mods!

All 18 Floors for the TTRPG

I know they've still got a week left on the campaign, butI'm hoping with the success on backerkit, this allows renegade games the ability to release supplement rule books in the future, considering the starter set and core rulebooks only cover the 1st 5 floors, which only really covers 4 books out of a projected 10 book series and there's so much crunch still left on the table.

One thing that makes a great ttrpg is its longevity, and Dungeon Crawler Carl's TTRPG has a lot of potential when exploring the other floors, like settlement ruling rules, mass combat rules, and of course the class upgrades you get on various levels, not to mention the settings themselves.

Themed floors like floor 6 might even justify their own rulebook considering how much setting and new game design they cover.

I'm unfamiliar with a lot of Renegade's work, but my fingers are crossed they go really ambitious with this game, as I'm really excited by it's potential.

Campaign/Game Length - Let's do math!

I was trying to figure out how long it would likely take to play through all 18 floors of the dungeon.

So we know from the books that the first floor was open for five days, and that a "day" in the dungeon is 30 hours.

Subtracting 8 hours for sleep each day leaves us with 22 hours of activity each day.

Times 22 by 5 gives a total of 110 hours that crawerls could potential spend exploring the first floor before it collapses.

Obviously crawerls/teams can and probably will descend earlier, but even if we round down to 100 hours, that would take 50, 2-hour sessions of gameplay. That's almost year of playing 2 hours every week, just for the first floor! And we know that each floor stays open longer than the last.

Based on what I've seen/read of the gameplay/rules so far, it seems that houserules are encourged, so undoubtedly GM's could customise the length of time each floor is open for.

What do y'all think? Are you going to stick to the canon of the books for your games? Or will you do something like make 1 hour of real-world play equal to 2 or 3 hours of in dungeon time?

I've never played a TTRPG before let alone been a GM, so I want to know what everyone else thinks. Am I overthinking it?
