How does a new player get better with this matchmaking?

This is a bit of a rant, but the matchmaking in this game feels rough.

This is my first NHL game ever, and honestly, my first time really getting into hockey too. Whenever I play online, I usually get destroyed by high-ranked players who just dangle around me nonstop. Half the time I can barely even hold the puck long enough to practice anything.

I’ve put a lot of time into the game already (Prestige 2), but I still get smoked most games. I've tried YouTube, which has gotten me to my current skill level. I also try practicing offline, but the AI doesn’t play like a real person, so it's hard to actually improve.

What are people doing to get better at this game? Right now, I kinda feel stuck at my current skill level because I’m either playing bots or getting matched against players way above me.

What do y'all think of this build? Earlier in the year I said I wanted to score more, I think I might have found my build. A good mix of offense and defense. I've played 2 games with this build, both 6s and in both I've had multi points in the game. 1st 4 assists 1 goal, 2nd 0 goals 2 assists

Long shot at this point of the year but ISO a LD

- We play 5v5
- West or Central LD preferred
- Xbox or PS it doesn’t matter
- Mic not needed
- We tend to play every night

Why am I getting matched against people with whatever purple rank is when I’m in silver

Like what’s the point I’m just getting railed every game. Shots are 20-0 after the first period. Can I play against people my actual rank or do I need to just leave in the load out screen every time I see people with a way higher level than me till I get a fair game

The glitch goals are out of control because they removed poke check

Someone comes in turns there back and you can’t poke check them because it’s removed and they can just glitch goal all day.

Stick checking is removed and poke checking is removed.

Esports runs gaming they complain to the developers to remove things they don’t like and since poke checking countered all of their exploits they told the devs to remove it.

It’s similar to ninja asking for things to be removed in Fortnite telling the developers to make a private NDA discord telling them to remove all the things he doesn’t like.

Poke checking is what the sport is about in real life but because we live in an esport world these e sport players can complain to the devs to remove the most basic things from the game that are at the heart of the sport. It was a drastic drop off from nhl25 to the point where poke checking is completely removed so the players can do their esport exploits without a counter.

Esports accounts for 0.001% of the player base but always get in the ear of the developers to make the game not about fun or about the sport in general but what helps them do more exploit goals.

Looking for a EASHL League where I can bring my own club

I have a club already with ~5-6 people (both xbox and ps5) and am looking for a casual league without sweats to join where there isn’t a draft included as we want to play together. I looked through the directory and its seems to be almost all draft leagues. We are D1, but our skill levels range anywhere from gold to diamond level. We usually play 2-4 times during the week and are all east coast (~8pm-12pm EST).

Anyone have any recommendations?

The amount of you who leave because I'm a low level is annoying

Chel build

I’m honestly not the greatest Chel player, and I’m looking for the best possible all around build. How’s this?

Also, does skating style matter?

PSA: avoid nylander39 5312

A tale as old as time, a drop in for our 3s game as a defenceman. We’re up like 6-1 on the other team and he starts pulling goalie and AFking and allowing breakaways and we lose 7-6. Avoid at all costs, massive troll.

Why aren’t they adding poke checking back into the game

NHL25 has poke checking that balanced out the game. It was real hockey poke checking wise. NHL26 has zero poke checking and is tailored to fake hockey and “esports”.

If this is a hockey game why haven’t they added poke checking back into the game.

Whose idea also was it to remove poke checking from a hockey game and what esports players advocated for it? Why does esports have any influence on a dead game in the first place?

Blue Elite Edges Comparison

Somebody in another thread suggested I shared this with everyone.

The math on elite edges suggests you could build 95 speed, 83 agility, and 87 acceleration with blue elite edges and it would be comparable to a 96/96/96 without elite edges. I tested this with a 6'6" power forward build (in the previous comment I said it was two way forwards, after checking the video I was wrong it was a power forward) the build on the left is 6'6" 195 lb power forward build with Blue elite edges, 95/83/87 stats. The one on the right is the same build, but with out elite edges, and 96/96/96 stats. The video freeze frames when the guy on the left crosses the red.

From what I've been able to tell, they skate the same speed, but the EE build is actually a step quicker because EE has the fast first step animation. And in game, the handling is significantly better with the EE build, obviously.

This opens the door for some way more interesting builds everyone can play. Because those stats can be distributed to balance, puck control, shot power and accuracy, etc. and also, you have a wider range of size you can play. I'm literally using a 6'9" enforcer and keeping up with everyone.

The only downside is that it limits your x factors, but it hasn't bothered me so far.

Needing Guidance

As the title states, I need some guidance. Gaming is my hobby, and I’ve always been good at them. I play a FPS and sports game, and as a southerner in the north, I recently got into hockey with it being the playoffs.

Lo and behold, NHL26 is free with gamepass. So I download it, and it’s as if I’ve never played video games before. But let me tell ya, I’m hooked.

I’ve already done some research on yt, looked up settings, builds, controls, but I’ve just recently gotten used to positions, some of the movement, and basic controls.

Any pointers or things that I could do to kinda bridge the gap so I’m not mongoloid or ayatollah when it comes to online play, or even offline play?

I like flexing between defense and wing.

TL;DR: Noob wants to get better. Looking for tips or sources into how to play.

Also, I’ll be adding my builds to the post, so I can get some feedback and suggestions.

Need build help - team is terrible and so am I

My team is like 20-50 in CHEL and we're trying to get better. I used to play RW but we usually play 6v6 with only 4 of us and we've realized we need 2 of us on defense because the computer is terrible and drop-ins act erratically a lot of the time.

Two-way Forward

I read about some of the meta builds to I ditched wheels and elite edges on my twf in favor of big rig and unstoppable but it honestly doesn't seem like it helps that much. I see other people being able to reverse check but I must be doing something wrong. Should I change the x-factors back or adjust the attributes here?

Two-way defenseman

I don't really know wtf to change here. I feel like the build is alright but I will still get burned by red wheels forwards if I get caught out slightly or there is a bad turnover so I'm considering just switching to agent blue line and calling it a day.

Thanks in advance for any help. We/I need it.

New-ish looking for new player friendly clubs/groups/leagues.

West Coast PS5 player here.

I just started near the end of WoC S4, and have had a horrific time finding reliable players/groups that don’t rage quit during matches, aren’t wildly toxic with racist bigoted slurs/conduct, and friendly to new people.

Ideally would like to find groups to continue to improve without the bs mentioned above.

I’m still finding my position I enjoy naturally, and typically play RW/C/RD. I don’t quit matches, have open availability, and down to grind.
