My favourite EB experience (story time)

Back in the day (yeah I’m old) EB was a magical place. We had PCs running demos of the latest games to try out (or sometimes just the full game). “Online subscription” didn’t even exist yet, and “micro transaction” was a literal description of the size of the transaction.

Another great thing about this time was a relative lack of enforcement around release dates. Maybe the industry just wasn’t big enough for people to care that much. Either way you could often walk into EB the day before and casually ask if an upcoming game was in stock yet and sometimes they will just sell it to you a day or two early. It was one of those things where if you were just friendly enough you could get a deal.

Well I think it was the original Prey for the Xbox 360, so this would have been 2006. I wanted this game so bad, and I was in the store talking to the staff about it, and it turns out they had it “in stock” even though it didn’t release for about another week. This was a dream come true. So I’m spending every moment street school playing Prey. I’m unusually addicted and manage to finish it in a few days. It was pretty good, but it felt unusually short. Then I remembered that EB would process a return within 7 days with very minimal questions asked. I had returned a few games in the past so I knew the routine. So I took it back and remember taking them it was just too short, and so they processed the return. But the funny part was it hasn’t technically even been released yet 🤣

TL;DR Many years ago I returned a game before it had technically been released yet.

How many EB accounts can you have for Pokemon?

Hi

I currently have 3 accounts that I use to buy as many of the Pokemon drops / stock as I can (I’m a sealed collector, will eventually sell after a few years)

I’m thinking of getting up to 5-6 accounts for delta reign

Is there an actual limit for how many accounts you can have?

I don’t want to break any rules - I just want to make sure I get my hands on enough product before scalpers take it

Can someone let me know? Thank you

Wow....

Meanwhile, JBHIFI sold them for half the price but people struggled to check out

Price gouging dogs

Absolutely unacceptable. Scalpers selling to scalpers mate. Been a loyal customer for 10 years and you charge $600 for a upc? How is any kid meant to afford that or any single parent for their kid.
EB is what’s wrong with the hobby.
Unscrupulous dogs.

Congratulations: Officially worse than pokemon TCG scalpers

The pokemon TCG 30th Anniversary Preorders are a joke. EB has priced items in some cases 200% of recommended retail. Hell even scalpers and resellers usually stick to 180% so congratulations EB Games. You're officially worse than scalpers 👑

Is this price right? JB Hi-Fi had it for much less…

Hello, EB.
I hope you are well.
I am keen to purchase from you, you know, to keep the business going. But, I have an issue with the advertised price of the 30th anniversary bundle (see picture).
One of your competitor’s has it listed for much less - below $60.
Is this an error on your behalf or theirs?
Kind regards,
I wanna be loyal - but??

30th Anniversary

Hi fellow Pokemon lovers,

Pokémon sealed collector here.

I was surprised to see how much hate EB Games was getting on Reddit today after the 30th Anniversary release.

I’d say that, for most people who are passionate about collecting sealed Pokémon product, we understand that it’s an expensive hobby to be in. That’s why it surprises me to see so many people complain as if they lack disposable income.

If it wasn’t for the three EB Plus memberships I have, I wouldn’t be able to buy as much sealed product, and I’m extremely grateful to EB for that. No other retailer (except Toymate?) has done the release, so I think we’re jumping the gun a bit.

If anything, it means scalpers will be too worried about their profits to purchase these boxes, meaning collectors like us who want enjoy owning the product and holding onto it long term, will have the opportunity to do so.

All that aside, I’ve reserved a spot on my shelf for all of my new 30th Anniversary product.

Now time to save for Delta Reign.

Boo 👻 did I scare you? I’m simple economics 2X MSRP 😝😝

  1. EB games doesn’t know how to run a business and will die soon
  2. They charge too much, but you buy it due to FOMO.

Pick ONE. Welcome to price elasticity of demand, the only alternative is to give up the cardboard crystal 😝😝😝

I'm not saying digital shouldn't exist but it can't be the only option. If digital wins. Say goodbye to your consumer rights as you'd be renting forever!

Side-note: If you want Sony to reconsider their decision hit them where it hurts most! Don't buy sony products with your wallets! (Unless it's physical disc)

EB games selling food??

Hello! With the recent news of the big Station (PlayStation) changing to an all digital format, it’s becoming more and more obvious that EB games is running on limited time. So.. what if they start selling an alternative business? Say, burgers! The name suits burger-esc vibes already and there will be space for a kitchen in stores where the PlayStation games once were. Statistically speaking food is more important and better selling than video games so I don’t see why not!

Today reminded me why I’m going to miss EB Games when physical stores eventually disappear.

I haven’t traded games in for years, but today I took about five old games into EB Games and walked out with a brand new copy of Battlefield 6 for just $45.
The funny part is I’d been sitting there for days debating whether to buy it on the PlayStation Store for $110, and I was genuinely close to pulling the trigger.
What surprised me even more was that after the trade in covered the game, I still had about $25 left over. I was expecting store credit like the old days, but they actually refunded the difference straight back to my bank card. I had no idea they’d started doing that.
It honestly made me appreciate having a physical game store nearby. Being able to turn games I no longer play into a brand new game for a fraction of the price is something digital storefronts just can’t offer.
With the industry slowly moving toward an all digital future, I couldn’t help but think we’ll probably look back and miss places like EB Games one day. Today was a nice reminder of why I’m glad they’re still around.

GTA 6 preordering

So what’s the best way to try get the collectors edition? Do I go onto eb games website and keep refreshing at midnight? Or do I search up gta 6 collectors edition on google and keep refreshing for it to come and purchase? I’ve never pre ordered something as soon as it’s come out before. Thank you.

As title suggests, does anyone know what time pre orders will start on the Thursday/Friday for GTA 6? I'm assuming it will be 9am AEST?
