Old EL Pics

Hey, all.

By any chance, does anyone have a picture of the old Video 2 Go in Frandor that shows more of the building's outside facade than what is currently available through Google images?

I like to make pictures of buildings in clay. I've made a Tasty Twist (old location) and a Nip 'N Sip. I don't like here anymore, but I grew up in EL and I'm 40. What can I say but that I'm another nostalgic Millennial? I'd like to expand my EL/Mid-Michigan clay pieces of places that meant a lot to me.

If anyone knows of a resource that has, like, archival photos of the city and can share it, I'd appreciate it!

Petition Drive to Move City Council Elections to Even Years

A petition drive is underway to move East Lansing's city council elections, currently held in odd numbered years, to even years.

East Lansing's council elections cost the city $60,000-$65,000 every two years, and it is the only race on the ballot in odd year elections. Moving these elections eliminates the need to hold odd year elections, saving the city money.

Odd year elections also have very low turnout, around 5,000-6,000 people. Moving those elections to even years, when you have presidential and gubernatorial elections on the ballot, would triple voter turnout in council elections, as they would then be on the same ballot.

In order to make this change, residents must submit a petition with the signatures of 1,200 residents that are registered voters by July 28, to put the question of moving elections on the November 2026 ballot. We are on track to meet that goal but could use your help!

More information can be found at this website: Let East Lansing Vote. If you are interested in signing the petition, you can e-mail leteastlansing@gmail.com and a petition gatherer (likely me) would be happy to meet up with you.

I'm happy to answer any questions. Thank you!

Tin Can EL Racist?

Went to Tin Can EL tn and they skipped every song that had a Spanish title on touch tunes… it was a manual skip, not just people using extra credits to move their song up. My group tested some ridiculous songs that lowkey are deserving of skips (i.e. dick in a box, waving my dick in the wind, thick of it), and they let it slide no problem. They also weren’t curating the vibe as it was already kind of all over the place. They didn’t skip any songs but the Spanish title ones. CRAZY.

*they have the entirety of Bad Bunny banned from their touched tunes
*they wouldn’t even let the spanish songs play past the first couple seconds before skipping…

Lease takeover

Hello! I am looking for someone to take over my 1 year lease at Skyvue. I am in a one bedroom apartment. Very spacious bedroom and closet with great amenities such as a gym and pool. Skyvue is pet friendly as well. The apartment comes fully furnished, and with appliances like washer and dryer, dishwasher, etc. If you take over my lease, you would be paying $1400 a month. The current leasing price is $1485, so you would be saving $85 a month!

I am in the middle of looking for a new apartment. Move in would be sometime mid-end of august. I will have a more concrete date once I sign my lease at my new place.

Please DM me if interested!

Drummer (25 y/o) looking for a band in Lansing, MI

Hi! I am a 25 y/o grad student in Lansing, Michigan, and I am looking to join a band or just find another musician to play with. I have a wide range of genre experience on drums but have played guitar for nearly a decade now. My genre preferences span wide, but I do have a soft spot for punk/pop punk.

Laws in EL for apartment AC

Our apartment AC broke around April 4th. They finally gave us a portable AC unit a month after. Stupid thing doesn’t do crap for keeping anything other than the living room at a good temperature. We have it set around 70*F. Figured we would keep it at that so the bill wasn’t too high. Didn’t know it could get as high as it is right now. Just got our utility bill and we are paying $255 EACH. I’m reading through the lease to find anything on AC listed as a provided amenity. We genuinely cannot pay this. Anyone know if we can fight this or if theres specific laws on it in this area?
