Almost lost me but now I'm all in

I was about 2 minutes away from deleting the Ecosia App from my phone because for quite some time external Password Manager apps were not supported and I always Had to copy paste everything.

But then I thought let's check the settings again and there you go. At some point it was implemented and I can use Bitwarden now. Love it. See you Chrome for good!

Search engine

Jesus I have to say it.

Ecosia just sucks when it comes to searching something because 99% of the time it:

-Can't find anything

-Shows AI images all the time(unrelated to my search)

-Shows 18+ content also often unrelated to my search

The only two reasons I'm using it is because it's european and plants trees

Can I change the search language without changing the search region?

Basically I want to get results in English (for general searches such as about a topic or person, not something region-specific) rather than in my country's local language, while still getting local results (eg online shopping). Google/DDG have no issues with this

I am moving away from ecosia :(

I really want to keep using ecosia to help with their incredible mission of rebuilding forests

I am sure they would have no problem with just one user moving away.

My issues with ecosia:

Not as good as google, or at least it does not try to offer a lot of functionalities google has.

I want to be able to type in timer and a timer popping up in the main page (google does this) but ecosia does not have this

or the built in calculator and so many things

Sorry for sounding rude, but because the project is not backed up by a billionaire, it can never offer top tier search engine qualities

Any time I search for something, it checks whether or not I am a bot, that is really annoying!

please let me know how I can improve my experience with ecosia and what your favorite things about ecosia and how do you use it

Additional note: I want to use ecosia as the default search engine inside brave, so I mainly use brave due to its ad blocking

if my post is not accepted, please let me know why ❤️

changed my mind, ecosia is the best

They just need to add some functionalities and simple things, a built in calculator, and built in other things like google. otherwise, good

very surprised by the AI, might not be as good as chatgpt, but it was still very good. it changed personalities on my command!

P.S. 2 hour ago I made a very big critique post about ecosia, but I don't regret it, and the constant checking whether I am a bot is now fixed

Has anyone here tried the other eco-friendly browsers/search engines (Wave Browser, OceanHero, Ekoru, etc.)?

I know Ecosia is the big one, but I’ve also seen:

  • Wave Browser
  • OceanHero
  • Ekoru
  • giveWater
  • SearchScene
  • Rapusia
  • YouCare
  • Lilo

For anyone who’s tried them, which one do you actually like best for daily use? Search quality, privacy, transparency, general usability, etc.

New design and AI positioning

I don't really like the new design, cause the ai option is too close to the first tabs. Wouldn't it be nicer if it was further away to not click accidentally. I do not like to use it, I got overviews turned off but I still click it by accident with the new design. Does anyone feel the same way. Is there anywhere we can sign or send a message to ask for a change?

AI Chat Environmental Impact Analysis

Today, I decided to check Ecosia's new privacy policy to see if it details what model the AI Chat uses. Turns out, it doesn't! However, it does confirm the speculation that Ecosia chose to use Mistral AI models. You can read that here.

Ecosia verifies that prompts are handled on Mistral's servers. Because of this, we can infer environmental impact data about the AI Chat because Mistral AI decided to release an environmental impact report about one of their models last year. Ecosia doesn't say which model they use, so these results are not definite, but it can provide a ballpark for the environmental impact of the AI Chat Ecosia currently provides. I say this because the evaluated model (Large 2) was released at the end of 2024, and Ecosia says they use smaller models, so, assuming Mistral has kept up with the rapid development of AI, a flagship model from two years ago may realistically be as powerful as a modern medium-sized model, and thus have roughly the same environmental impact. Below is what Mistral released about what the Large 2 model consumes for one page of text, and I highly recommend viewing the full report with all of the statistics.

https://preview.redd.it/xgjjtksf1j4h1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=e31f7b479f5edbe6274b54deb6ba802f0e875896

Obviously, Mistral would only release the report if it showed itself favorably, and that begs the question, "Why hasn't there been another for their more recent models?" Also, this analysis relies heavily on assumptions about AI development and Mistral, as well as Ecosia itself (for example, Ecosia's use of the phrase "smaller" could be referring to any class of models as "larger"), so take everything written here with a grain of salt. I am not here to justify or show my support for AI Chat. I posted this analysis to clear up speculation about AI Chat and help others in their research.

Has anybody tried using Ecosia as browser for ticketing (specifically Ticketmaster)

Want to queue for the BTS Arirang ticket selling, but I can’t choose between Chrome or Ecosia.

If anybody has tried using Ecosia for any ticketing in Ticketmaster, please share your experience! Is it a good browser to use or should I stick to Chrome?
