Switching to EDF - my experience

My (very good) EON tariff is ending in a few weeks so I'm shopping around for something new. I have the works; heat pump, batteries, solar and EV, so I want as low as possible overnight unit price.

EDF seems to be the best on offer at the moment, so I thought I'd get a quote. Surely this is a simple online process... well friends, let me tell you, it is not a simple online process...

I went to their website to get a quote, entered my postcode, and was told to ring them instead.

After around half an hour on hold, I gave my details to the first person I spoke to, who then told me she couldn’t help because I had solar panels. Apparently that meant I needed the “complex metering” team, which was why I couldn’t get a quote online.

I was transferred across, but the next person’s line was so bad it sounded like they were standing in a wind tunnel. I explained I wanted a quote to switch to EDF. He told me he couldn’t give me one and that I needed to use the website - which, of course, had told me to ring them.

The line then went dead.

I was somehow connected to someone else, who asked for all my details again, then asked for my EDF account number. I explained that I didn’t have one because I was trying to become a customer. She took my MPAN and export details, said they could give me a quote, put me on hold, then came back and started giving me a quote for a standard tariff.

I explained again that I was asking about an EV tariff.

Then the line went dead again and I was completely disconnected.

So that’s as far as I got with EDF.

If it’s this difficult to get a quote as a new customer, I’m not sure I want to find out what it’s like once they actually have my account.

So it looks like I'll be calling Octopus.

Cornwall Insight reckons July cap will be up 12.7%

Cornwall Insight is one of the main energy market forecasters and has just shared their latest forecast for the July’s price cap at £1,848.70.

Current cap is £1,641, so that’s about £208 more a year, or a 12.7% jump, if Ofgem confirms it. In other words if you are on a standard variable tariff (usually the default if you haven't changed it in the last 1/2 years) your prices will go up.

They were spot on with the current April-June cap, so worth paying attention.

Also seeing fixed tariffs start to creep up again with wholesale prices moving around and Middle East tensions feeding into the market quite a bit again.

FYI, the cap is not a cap on your total bill. It just caps the rates so if you use more you pay more of course.

Anyone fixing now or waiting for Ofgem?

Green?

Please explain like im 3!

Certain companies claim 100% green(solar, wind, tidal etc) so how/why have they increased their rates the same as gas/oil suppliers if they do not use gas/oil in production, I understand they have other costs that will have been affected by soaring oil and gas, but they are they are significantly or even slightly cheaper than traditional suppliers?

UK energy tariffs ?

My eon next drive tariff is coming up for renewal soon and I’m not sure where to go. Eon seemed to require an EV now for the better tariff.

Is anyone aware of a good tariff/provider with a cheap charge rate over night?

I will get an EV this year probably but not in time for the renewal.

I currently have panels and a battery.

Thanks
