Was you ESH affectionate as a kitten?

Just curious if your cat was affectionate when it as young, around 3-5 months (if you have them at that age)? We recently got an 14 week old boy esh and he was very affectionate the first week we had him home but then sort of stopped seeking out cuddles as he became more comfortable. He is very happy and playful and running around the house, so I know he's doing well overall, but he hasn't been cuddly like he first was. Wondering if that is normal for this age?

ESH prone to overheating / exercise fatigue in summer weather?

Hi everyone! First: Here’s my 10 month old girlie hitting the freak pose when she plays!

Second: The weather has significantly warmed up lately, and I’ve noticed that she tends to overheat faster than before. When I first got her, it was still cold out, and she could chase her teasers and toys for quite a while before tiring, with panting only occurring after a particularly intense run. I have a cool tile bathroom and a cooling mat that she likes to retreat to when she gets hot.

Now it’s regularly 80F+ during the daytime, and she begins to show signs of overheating after just a few minutes. I’ve had her checked by a vet recently, and her heart/lungs are fine. She has good nares, too. Not sure if maybe her palate has overgrown a bit and is obstructing the airway, but she doesn’t have noisy breathing at rest (maybe an occasional snuffle snore) so I’m not super worried about that. I’m monitoring her weight so that she doesn’t get too chunky, as I know that makes it even harder for brachy-types to breathe. I give her shortened play sessions with extra opportunities to rest, we have the AC on, and she recovers within a few minutes. However, I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this trend occurring during warmer weather seasons?

(Note: I have had brachy types before, 3 Persians, so I’m familiar with squishy face friends - I just want to hear if anyone has had related experiences and if it turned out to be anything so that I have a better idea of what to look out for / when I should revisit the vet. Basically… is it a weather thing?)

Undercoat?

Does anyone’s ESH not have the thick undercoat that sheds but doesn’t just easily fall out and makes them look puffy but dull or did I make that possibility up in my head?

Grooming Tools Recs Please!

Hi there! I just got my Exotic and I’m looking to get some grooming tools for her and would love any brand recommendations :)

I’m planning to use a gentle slicker brush and combs.

Is there a preferred gentle slicker brush brand? Preferably with rubber tips.

For the Greyhound Comb, I was looking at the Chris Christensen 5” Face and Feed Buttercomb #006.
Is the price worth getting the brand? I have the comb in the pic above.

Would love to hear everyone’s opinions, tips and tricks! Thank you!!

Said goodbye to my soul cat

This weekend I had to say goodbye to my soul cat, Deetles (short for ditalini which is a type of noodle). She was the most special girl in the world and this was so sudden. She was 14 but she truly acted and looked like a kitten until 1 week ago when she stopped eating and was found to have end stage liver cancer. I don’t know how this happened so fast especially since I lost another cat to cancer only 6 months ago. Deetles was so special and there will never be another cat like her. My mom and I called her our purr-meister bc she would purr just from you talking to her. She loved being held and cradled like a baby. She loved sitting on your lap and cuddling and purring for hours. She ate Gerber chicken baby food for the last year of her life and boy was she hungry! She was so well loved at the vet that the receptionist even cried when we brought her in to be put down. Another assistant there said deetles was her favorite cat in the world. The staff even dropped off a potted plant and card at our house after she died. We got her when I was in 5th grade and I really thought she was gonna live to see me graduate medical school. Here’s some photos of my girl. That’s her brother in the last photo who’s also in heaven. I cannot put into words how special she was but you’ll have to believe me.
