Issues after maintenance
Hi all. I recently did a major service to my 2008 fj. I haven’t done a major service in 2 years, so it was costly. However, after the I got the car, I noticed it was acting up. They told me this is because of the new components, and that things need to settle and get used. Maybe I’m overreacting or what they told me is bs.
- the car has a bit more vibration when idle. 2) the side driver mirror vibrates to a point where the view get blurry. 3) the car is slightly leaning to the left if you look at it from straight. 4) the steering wheel always goes left if I let go. 5) the ac doesn’t cool when driving above 60 mph. 6) the steering wheel feels very sensitive when driving above 60 mph to a to a point where I might flip the car if I’m not careful. 7) there is a winding sound coming from the back when I accelerate from a stop.
I appreciate your help. Thank you.
200,000 finally achieved
I hit 195000 over a year ago. Didn't think I would get to 200000 as I'm only putting about 25 Miles a week on her. Had a couple trips put me over the mark. It was right as I crossed the border on a 10 hour trip.
Dana 60 in the rear?
I’ve had my ‘07 FJC since 2010 as my daily the entire time, and I wheel it. I re-geared to 4.88’s from ECGS and have blown them repeatedly. I was told by ECGS that I needed to upgrade the rear axle if I’m going to daily & wheel it with anything heavier than a 33” tire. I’m finally upgrading to their Dana 60 rear axle, and was curious if anyone has put one of those in their FJ’s? Any thoughts on lockers, or any other compatibility issues I would be aware of?
Story: My Grandads FJC
Hey yall! my name is Reeve and I am from Austin Texas. Throughout my childhood my grandfather was really my superhero, the most bad ass man that is have ever met. throughout the early years of my life I would often take summer trips to his place in Durango Colorado where I would attend summer school in the mornings, and spend the afternoon foraging for mushrooms with him whilst off-roading this old YJ Jeep. Some time went by and the ol’ YJ wasn’t feeling too hot… after it failing to drive up local hills a couple times we decided to let it go and he began his search for another 4WD. Throughout our time in Colorado (some time around 2018-2019) we noticed heaps of these Toyota FJ cruisers appearing at random intervals in the summer with license plates reading from all around the US. After talking with some enthusiasts in local grocery store parking lots, he became obsessed with the idea of this “FJ summit” and decided that we would attend it in the upcoming year. After months and months of searching for the “Perfect FJ” he landed on this 2014 4X4 Iceberg White FJC, equipped with Crawl Control. He did simple mods to the car like throwing it on 33s with 17s, a 2 inch OME lift, and arb bumper with a warn winch. That year, unfortunately the FJ summit was cancelled, it never returned.
2 Years ago my grandad passed away on my 18th birthday after having sudden lung issues. I was lucky enough to say goodbye to him whilst he was fully conscious and he had asked me if I would like to care for his FJ, which he loved so much.
After months of fighting the grief, I began formulating the plan to take this truck to go see the sights that we planned to go see together.
These past 2 weeks I had the amazing opportunity, after two years of planning and saving money (plus thousands of $$ into maintenance) to finally make the trip to the San Juan mountains where I conquered the trails that we wanted to explore together during the FJ summit.
(Mods that I did before the trip include but are not limited to:
New 16s on Pizza cutter 33s.
Dobinsons IMS Suspension to handle the weight.
Sherpa Roof Rack / Topoak Galaxy Light.
Synthetic winch line.)
35x12.5 looks just right…
Falken RT01 35x12.5R17
Rays 57DRX 17x8.5 +0
30mm spacer all around
Body mount relocation
Ton of plastic trimming
Inseam pounded in.
Transfer Case Fluid
What are you guys and gals using when you change your transfer case fluid? I was using the OEM Toyota Transfer Gear Oil LF SAE 75W, but everywhere I'm able to find it, it's mad expensive. I use Valvoline products mostly, but what has worked for anyone not finding the OEM Gear oil?
What do you guys think of this frame?
In Canada and trying to buy a Red trail teams FJ in manual, very difficult to find.
What do you guys think of this frame?
Aussie FJ Import? Good idea?
Hi all, I'm an American near the West Coast and I got my dream car 5 years ago. FJ-Cruiser 2014 with 145k miles on it (75k when I got it from some garage in a desert). I tell people I plan to be buried like a Viking in this thing.
Issue is, I have an opportunity to snag my absolute dream job in Melbourne. I'm scrambling to figure out logistics and am curious if I can have my cake and eat it too by importing the Cruiser.
I know the parts are hard to come by over there and my understanding is that what flys in the US might not fly in Australia from a emissions perspective. (Maybe HiLux might be more available?)
Anyone tried this? Aussies and ex-pats alike, I'd love to know what happened, what I should consider, is there a market to flip it if I needed to, since it's a rare vehicle? Should I just sell it to my very capable cousin?
thanks
they see me rollin, they hatein
wish my B J cruiser had heated seats so my tail end could stay warm in the winter
Should you daily your FJ Cruiser Well I want to enjoy it every single day, so I do.
WTB: 2010–2014 4WD FJ Cruiser in Texas
Hi all! Especially to those in Texas!
I’m traveling to Texas this Friday and hoping to find the right FJ Cruiser to purchase and drive home to Michigan!
I’ve been on the hunt for the last few years but decent fjs are hard to come by in the rust-belt areas.
I’ll be flying into San Antonio/Austin and can travel toward Dallas for the right truck.
What I’m looking for:
2010–2014 FJ Cruiser
4WD only
Clean title with no structural or frame damage
Preferably under 200,000 miles
Stock or tastefully modified; a mild lift is fine
No extreme lifts, riveted fender flares or heavily abused builds (as close to stock as possible)
Clean frame with little to no rust
Maintenance records are a major plus
For a private-party purchase, my budget is under $18,000. I’m not expecting a perfect showroom truck—just an honest, properly maintained FJ at a fair price.
I’m purchase-ready and happy to pay for an independent pre-purchase inspection. If you’re considering selling, please message me with the year, mileage, location, asking price, VIN, history and current photos.
Not interested in 2WD, rebuilt/salvage titles, structural damage…etc
Thank you!
How do you greet other FJs on the road?
I know my friend who drives a Miata says they open and close their headlights when they see each other
Do we have a standard greeting? I’ve just been waving. I saw one person turned on their wipers which was cool
lights on lights on lights
Dropped in a pair of Baja LP6 headlights today (using mounts by BracketBoyz). - because I needed more light obviously.
Best CarPlay radio for a 2007 FJ Cruiser?
What’s the best Apple CarPlay radio for a 2007 FJ Cruiser with the OEM radio? Looking for something reliable that fits cleanly. What radio and installation kit do you recommend?
Anyone looking for All Pro sliders
Four wheel parts is offering 10% off of these with the code 4WP65 on their site, and I only paid $72 for shipping.
Other places were asking hundreds of dollars for shipping and handling
I’ve Officially Joined the FJ Cruiser Crew.
Saw an FJ while camping when I was 14 years old. Told myself “Man I want that car!” Now at 29 years old I just made it a reality! Took it on its official mud christening. Also ended up pulling some fellow out of a mud pit who tried mudding in his Toyota Camry. I told him to get an FJ.
2007
