Changing your Rotor/Stator BEFORE it blows up is better than cleaning your engine out after!

I’m going to describe the failure in detail for any riders who have experienced the symptoms and are looking for the diagnosis, and for those who have not yet done the RMStator swap. This will happen if you have original Rotor/Magnets in your bike at some point and the failure symptoms can vary a ton, this is just mine.

Was starting from a stop in traffic yesterday, when coming up through 2nd gear around 3600rpm I felt a jolt through the bike and it started vibrating heavily while producing a whining sound.

Both the vibration and whine followed the engine RPM while riding in gear and revving freely. I was around the corner from the gas station so I stopped to fill up as intended. After pulling out of the gas station the vibration was lessened, but it “jolted” again and the vibration was worse now.

Took the bike straight home, only a couple kilometres away, and shut it down. No misfires, no smoke, no dash lights or errors, no leaks and seemingly no power loss, but I wasn’t hard on the throttle or in high rpm’s trying to get it home to test that fully.

As you can see in the photos, the infamous rotor magnet failure is the culprit, roughing up my stator and its wiring pretty good in the process and ejecting 60% of its now powdered magnet shards into my engines bottom end. Parts are on order and I’ll be tearing into the clutch side and oil pan to manually clean as much magnet material as possible out, before flushing the motor multiple times to clear out debris.

Like many before me learned the hard way, don’t wait to do the swap. It took me 30 mins to take the old parts out with hand tools, so it’s easy to do! Gonna take a lot more time to clean out all the crevices in that engine with hope it’s good to go for the future.

TLDR:

Do the rmstator swap now if you have no records of it being done. It will fail, and you’ll have hours of cleaning and assembly as a result, if you’re lucky. Or a ruined motor that’s now a paperweight if you’re not.

Mod Request - Pics in Replies

Can one/some/all of the mods ask whoever is the Head Mod if we can get pics in the replies? I'm trying to help someone with an issue where them providing pics would be extraordinarily helpful but they can't without making a whole new post because this sub doesn't have reply pics enabled. It'd be very, VERY helpful if the question asker could post pics after being requested to by a question answerer.

Thought I'd clean my carbs..2003

Pretty sure it was unnecessary! Bike has 8500km on it, was hard starting a bit. Mostly took the carb stack out to drill out the covers for the adjustment screws. Figured I'd give them a good clean. I've gotten new carbs that weren't this clean. Well... Back to rubber on the Rd.

Battery for 07 Fz1

Hello all

What would you recommend as the best battery for the fz1? If it the Yuasa one, how would you get it into the battery holder? I tried it but the seat would not latch.

Footpegs/Wind protection

Hey, are there any taller riders out there? I’ve had an FZ-1 for a while now, and there are two things that are giving me a bit of trouble.

I’m 185 cm tall, and after a little over an hour of riding, I start to feel pain behind my knees. The second issue is the wind hitting my helmet head-on, which makes it noisier than on a naked bike.

Has anyone lowered their footpegs, or can

recommend a wind deflector?

Day 1 progress

Finished up getting the tank off, which was a pretty easy process because the fuel pump is apparently on the inside of the tank so it wasn’t too difficult not even a single drop leaked onto the ground. Was able to catch everything with a paper towel. I’ll be wet sanding this weekend and then priming and then wet sanding again and then applying that really cool grey from the concept photo I made:)

Day 2

I sanded everything with 400 then did two coats of primer. Used a little bit of that rainwater to wet sand outside😂 and then I finished off using my spray bottle, but I’ll come back tomorrow and wet sand the primer because I did do a few few coats on areas where there were scratches and imperfections so that when I go to wet sand the primer that should just disappear:)

My 2002 Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer

Had it for two years now, crashed last November, restored it, mounted new tyres a day after these photos were taken. It's basically like new now, absolutely love it!

Fz6 cracked engine please help

Hey I’m Justin !! First post in the group /just joined
. First bike and now this , got it a week ago and started leaking and didn’t discover the issue until I took the sprocket cover off. First option is getting a really good high-quality hightemp job weld,, well second option is getting an aluminum tig welder and third option which we do not want to fucking do is tear it apart and replace it. Bike runs fine and revs all the way to 15,000 just this one issue.
