The blackwingion rouges plus bonus fake hedgehog ](technically sonic should be flamvel hedgehog)
Still somehow a more viable board.
What's the craziest end board setup you would throw away to simply I:P pass? 😅
Edit: it's a joke...
Konami is slowly preparing Rotation Yugioh (or soft reboot)
Hello, first post but I really want to make this post.
It might sound crazy but personally I have been noticing some stuff that at least "interesting" to consider where yugioh card game is moving forward.
For context, I am an OCG Player but not in the big country such as Japan or China. I try to be competitive player, I'm passionate for yugioh, that's why this post come from my love for the game. And for my other tcg knowledge, let's just say I know and tried plethora other tcgs and has some confidence on this topic. And sorry if my English come out as weird, it's my 3rd language afterall.
So, my biggest signal is an event that hold by Konami in the weeks prior. The event tournament is called the "Booster Limited Tournament".
The event can be hold by any LGS in Japan, nationwide, and held on 25th-26th July and 1st-2nd of August 2026.
Official Link: https://www.yugioh-card.com/japan/event/boostertournament/
The Event Banner. Booster Limited Tournament
The event itself feels grassroot on each LGS, it's not a grand tournament attended by hundreds or thousands of people, but that's the interesting part imho. And for incentives to join the event, these are the participant prize and winner and raffle prize
So that's the gist of the event, but the most interesting part is about the tournament itself, the rule for the tournament is interesting, players can only build their decks with cardpool of only recent sets, which are:
- Chaos Origin + Box Topper (some alt art like raioh and artemis)
- Revolution Booster Toon/Witchcrafter/Unchained
- World Premiere Pack 2026 (import for tcg ex, including Pumpkin, R.B., and GMX)
- Beyond the Brave + Box Topper (Fish Sonar alt., Tenki alt. etc.)
So yeah if you come from another TCG that implemented rotation, this idea might come a bit similar to the rotation system. But, the more you look into what deck are usable in this format. And surprisingly, with the new era of core set, there are already interesting choices to pick from
- Chaos Origin
Chaos Ritual, Blitzclique, Sacred Beasts, Invoked
2. Revolution Booster
3. World Premiere Pack 2026
4. Beyond The Brave
Dark Time Wizard (Joey), Umbral/Barian, Atlantis, Ashtra
Personally, I think the archtype of choices are interesting, I will add more later, but one thing I like about most of them are they are quite easy and straightforward to learn yugioh for.
Now after talking about what's available in the format, let's talk about what's not available in the format.
- Generic Endboard Piece
Baronne still exist on OCG, Crystal Wing, I:P, S:P, etc.
No more similar endboard, less combo that spam body and end on same negaters or IP
2. Strong generic card of various uses
some cards we hold dear, but some of them are also big pain points
3. Some strong "Engine"
some very splashable engine is not usable here
This scales down some powers for the available archtype that used them in advanced or genesys
Some of those might sound scary as we are used to Advanced format were going first is very strong and we need a lot of tools, mainly in non-engine to leverage going 2nd. But if we look at the decks playable in this format we can see how they play, most of them are not that craaaazy in pure form. Hence the more popular splashable card for this format are the following:
so let's see at what lists are people using on this format. Here are some examples I gathered:
- Chaos Ritual
2. Unchained
3. Toon
4. Invoked
5. Witchcrafter
If you bear with me this far, I ask you to prepare for more.
So let's assume this is a real format, not just two-weekends events. It's not perfect, but what this format offer is interesting. The format is very new/returning player friendly, the cardpool is reduced to just some sets, making it easier to navigate. Other than that, the decks are on average has lower floor, most of their base combo is not as craaazy. Yes some decks can do longer combos but the average is still way simpler relativaly than Advanced. Another point is the "product knowledge" is simpler. Each set already give you a complete core deck from the cardpool, you don't need to search for older card you need or the strategy just doesn't work.
For old player, the format itself would still be a fresh air. This could provide a feel powered down format to enjoy, while still feels like modern yugioh.
So, other than that, what other stuff that konami has been done, to lay foundation for possible new alt format, or even soft reboot?
- Yugioh Genesys
I won't say much about the Genesys Format itself. I know not 100% of player are into it, but at least it open the player's perspective that another official format might be nice or even needed.
- Neuron Integration
The event above have Neuron feature to highlight elligible card and one that doesn't. This is the smallest sign, but it is some effort for only two-weekends event.
3. The Product design
From Chaos Origin onward, yugioh products begin to change, not only we get introduced to overframe cards, the Core sets now contain some "complete" archtype. Before this the norm was a core set mostly contains legacy supports, and occasionaly some new archtype. For the legacy support, that only enticing if you already have the deck, if not and you're interested, you need to acquire other cards. You cannot just rely on the core set.
But nowadays that's not the case, from the new set you can get a complete core of archtype, you don't really concern with older cards. This is great for rotation system as new cards are totally not dependent on older cards. I even get the idea that the new era sets are doable as a draft.
4. The archtype design
The archtypes are designed to be way simpler, they arrive on their endboard relatively fast with combos that's not very long. Another aspect that support this is, recently there are lacks of extra deck monsters. Most of the new decks on this "new era sets" doesn't rely as much on extra deck, or at least not using them as combo line. they are more of utility, similar of the older days usage of extra decks. Even the two revealed DB decks doesn't actually utilize extra deck monsters as of now.
I think the overall powerlevel are reduced afterall, making most of the new decks hard to enter Advanced, maybe except toon. Another point I wanna say is, if they start from yugi, joey, and next set (Immortal Phoenix) maybe Marik, this feels like soft reboot for DM Era.
anyway before continuing to next section, I think I need to emphasize that this is just analysis from observations, even I highly doubt that they will announce such drastic change soon. But I want to people to keep open mind of someday this does appear. I want people to at least give a chance, if not for you that's fine too, but I wish people give new things a chance to try.
POSSIBLE CONCERN
All new things ofc are not always rainbow and sunshine. I think there are some concern, and I want to at least mention them for now.
First the more common concern of people not wanting rotation because they want to play with their collection, doesn't part with them. Also they don't want to buy new cards for each set.
For this concern the feelings are valid, but I think it is quite uninformed. TCG Dev, when they want to use rotation, they SHOULD still support their Eternal/non-rotating format, mainly for Advanced yugioh because it is the game core. The advanced should still be premiere format, at least for the foreseeable future. And for cards, if we look at game that used rotation, reprint can always happen and make the cards usable in current format. On the tournament above example, the OG Alleister and Invocation are reprinted as box topper, making them usable. The whole revolution boosters are also 80% reprint that make them usable on this format, so the card rotated out = gone, it's not entirely be the case
As for the don't want to spend money each time a set drop, if you're at commited or even competitive player, your spending pattern most likely similar to rotation, as new powerful cards you will still likely get it.
Another concern that is more valid imho is the spread of the resources and players. For gameplay, more format means more ways to play yugioh. But as we see, we only have limited players and/or limited event slots. AFAIK Genesys YCS even need to be held on friday, if there's one more format, it's gonna be hard to schedule, or in an event a format would be sacrificed. And the solution for this is mostly on Konami side, how they decided to make and support the format if they do want a new format.
All in all I hope this post to be at least interesting and make people consider some stuff with the game
ban lists lately got me like
i wil not forgiv til max see goes down to ze0
Remember when.....?
It is poorly documented. But I swear I was there!!!
