Call Issues

Is it normal to experience uplink audio failure when driving on certain stretches of an interstate? We are talking about northern NYC suburb - Rockland County - I-87 - northbound and southbound by exits 14, 14A and 14B. The person on the other end cannot hear me but I’m able to hear them. Call doesn’t drop entirely. Tried everything possible. Multiple restarts, Network settings reset, changing the position of the phone when driving, etc. Is there a solution? Getting to be super frustrating. I’m on LTE only but my friend who has FN and 5G auto has also experienced the same thing.

5G connected - no service in random locations

Recent convert to firstnet from att.

I have a few areas close to my home that appear as “dead zones” even though I have full bars of 5G. Nothing loads.

These dead zones were not there with ATT.

Is this a common occurrence? I searched this thread and only saw mention of APN settings, which mine look correct, I believe.

I turned LTE on/5G off (was auto) and I was able to load things and send messages.

Any help is much appreciated.

Sonim MegaConnect

This showed up at work today, seems well built and easy to use. So far, so good. I’ll get to try it out this week in the mountains, and we’ll see how it works compared to my ToughBook and iPhone.

FirstNet in Japan

Family trip to Japan this summer. My iPhone esim and 5g hotspot are on FirstNet here in the States. Rest of family is on regular AT&T esim but all lines on my FirstNet AT&T plan.

Will we all be able to just use the normal AT&T International Day Pass plan ($12 per day for first line (mine) and $6 per day for everyone else, 10 day charge cap)?

Or will I have to do anything else because the family is bifurcated FirstNet and regular AT&T esims?

Speeds Reduced

Anyone in the central Florida area close to Disney notice reduced speeds the last two weeks ? I rarely see 5G+ anymore. Mainly just 5G now it says , and when I tested the speeds it’s been lower now. Maybe new towers ?

FirstNet roaming on VZW

(Repost without my phone number)

Saw the other post about roaming on Verizon, so I figured I’d test it myself. My FN line is Extended Primary Subscriber Paid. Was able to manually select VZW and it works just fine. While I could select T-Mobile, it showed no service/sos only. Testing conducted in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

There’s an area I routinely frequent that has VZW and T-Mobile coverage but no FN/AT&T. Will see if it automatically roams to VZW next time I go.

FirstNet allows roaming on Verizon now?

In the area where I work, FirstNet/AT&T have very weak service. This evening I noticed that I surprisingly had full service in my office, but it was LTE. Then I noticed I was roaming on Verizon. Verizon does have a 5G/LTE small cell on our building.

Is this just a one off “glitch” with my phone allowing me to connect to Verizon or is this something permanent? Very interesting to say the least for me.
