I’m confused about The Weakest Link in Flesh and Blood. Does “cards without a base defense value” only mean cards that don’t have a defense value printed on them, or does it also include cards with a printed defense value of 0?

Best ways to prepare for an event that's not practicing?

I've always heard in interviews that a lot of the people that are the top competitors in certain field have little rituals before every event. Eating certain foods (peanut butter in the nba), rubbing a lucky item or slapping a spot (door frame in the locker room) or other odd superstitutions.

Im pretty sure ive heard the same about people who play card games, i remember patrick hoban of yugioh fame always getting an omellete before any large event.

Do you guys do anything mentally to prepare or have superstituons? Eat a certain breakfast, work out before the event, have lucky socks?

Brand new to FaB and TCGs generally: how do I understand what my precon is trying to do?

I somehow decided this weekend that I want to give Flesh and Blood a try.

I have never played a TCG seriously before, although I have casually played some Hearthstone and the Magic: The Gathering Planeswalker games. I have picked up the Bravo and Dorinthea precon decks.

So far, I have watched the tutorials from FAB Workshop and Talorian, and I think I mostly understand the basics: card anatomy, pitching, arsenal, equipment, and so on.

The problem is that I then shuffled the Bravo deck, drew four cards as if it was the start of a game, and immediately felt completely lost.

I understand, in theory, that Guardian is meant to block while setting up big hits, but that does not mean much when you are brand new. What actually counts as a big hit? Is it 4, 5, 6 damage, or are we talking 10+? From what I can tell, are the red pitch cards generally the “big” cards I should be building around?

The only genuinely beginner-friendly video I found that explained this kind of thing was from the official YouTube channel, although it covered a different format.

Does anyone have any useful links, guides, or advice that explain what each hero is actually trying to do, especially using the precon decks? For example, what cards should Bravo or Dorinthea be looking for, what is their basic game plan, and what should a new player be thinking about when looking at an opening hand?

None of my friends are into TCGs, so at the moment I do not feel confident turning up to an LGS for a game. I know people are usually helpful, but I feel like I would draw my first hand, have no idea what I am doing, and end up wasting someone’s time even if they got a free win out of it.

Any beginner-focused advice would be appreciated.

Old sealed booster boxes

I got in to FAB when it was new in the UK and stopped playing after Everfest. I still have Rathe, Arcane, Monarch and Aria(1st) sealed booster boxes. My question is, should I keep hold of them or sell them?

Briar or Blaze for Silver Age?

My LGS finally got the Chapter 3 precons and I wonder which one could be the best pick. It looks like both of them are really good, especially Briar, but I don't want to end up with a deck that spends more time benched than playable. But I also want something to play competitively at Skirmishes.

I also would like to know if Boltyn, Lyath or Gravy are also worth it, but they don't catch my eye as much as Blaze and Briar.

Thanks.

Is your nationals correctly a "National Festival"?

On the LSS streams they've made a big talking point about it's "National Festival" and you should go even if you aren't qualified.

Last year there was similar messaging so I went to UK Nats unqualified. I played in one 7 person side event, the second event looked like it wouldn't fire so instead I just watched games. As a result I didn't even come back for the second day. I skipped this year based on that experience.

I'm curious whether the UK is an outlier, or if there is a big step up this year?

Adaptive Plating in Puffin

So I recently built Puffin following the list from the 1st place Mexico Nationals, and I'm still quite new to the game so I'm struggling to understand the inclusion of Adaptive Plating, is it just there to provide a 3 block during the game?

I'd love if someone could tell me about it's uses and when I would use it and over what equipment slot.

Vynnset vs Florian Silver Age

Hello - I am a new player and have been trying to see what deck to buy first. I have played a bit on talishar and really enjoy the runechant mechanic. I played both these characters and really enjoyed them. What are some of the deeper differences and which one is stronger. Does anyone have a good decklist for either as I saw on fabrary a lot of the decks had cards that are not allowed in silver age. Thanks :)

Can we stop pretending this is organic?

Maybe I’m cynical, but these “FaB is unsupported while Riftbound gets everything” posts all have the same vibe. They feel less like players asking questions and more like engagement farming. If there’s a real issue with organized play, let’s talk about that instead.

Ziggy + refractor question

If you use Ziggy to flicker an aura that’s already attacked in a turn with Iris of Reality/Reality Refractor, is it able to attack again?

Thinking about quitting the game

Hi folks, bit of an interesting discussion but over the last month or so, a thought has been lingering in the back of my mind and I can’t seem to shake it. Should I quit this game?

Don’t get me wrong - there are a lot of things I love about this game. In fact I love most things about this game. My main issue is my community and my local game store.

The community is great actually, however it’s really small and our efforts to grow the game have been pretty unsuccessful. I’ve put immeasurable thought and effort into growing our community, including money out of my own pocket. We’ve hosted learn to plays, I’ve taught all my friends how to play - and with all that effort we don’t get more than 6 people for an armory. In turn, we’ve only ever had one skirmish, and never anything bigger. It’s hard to get Armory decks due to attendance. It’s really hard to grow a community and it frustrates me to no end to watch other games come out and instantly have an audience.

My local game store is also pretty unsupportive of the game. Earlier this year, I spent a few hours coming up with various ideas on things we could do for Armories rather than just classic constructed, I urged them to do something for Silver Age because there was hype around it, they took too long to implement it so now no one is excited. I’ve suggest sealed every so often - did it once, we all had a blast and then never again. I’m feeling let down - these store owners were my friends and I don’t feel like they tried very hard to support this game. They got promotional materials - never hung any of it up. It’s embarrassing to play a game that the store doesn’t even want to support.

I’ve always been the community leader, and I’ve always been a champion for the game, but I’m tired and I feel like it might be better if I quit. It’s hard because I love the game, a lot.
