ADV2 Electronics Upgrade. The good-Bad-Ugly

So I’ve completed install of the V2 electronics kit for the ADV.

I found this kit is bitter sweet for these reasons.

-Safety. The kit is a safety upgrade the better protects the rider from voltage sag.

-Upgrade. In the kit Tony has included basically everything. He’s included a new ESC, a new
BMS a new front light, a new wiring harness, and two new frame parts that mount and fit all the new parts. Which also means you can save your old electronics for a rainy day.

-Cost. $200 is highway robbery for all of this stuff. Tony has to be taking a loss.

- Execution. This is probably different for everyone. My board had a rideable tune when it was first reassembled with the V2 kit. Motors are all a little different so a motor tune is necessary anyways. My board gave out during heavy braking at low speeds. The motor was loud and a bit rough at high torque demand and speed.

Tony helped me work through it for a bit.. and then seemed to give up. He thought I was having a failed hall sensor but I was testing fine.

Eventually I just tried tuning with Float Hub. Since it’s the V2 electronics kit for the ADV it’s hard to say which setup is appropriate, and without Tony responding…. Makes it more of a guess and check.

I’ve tuned the board a dozen times now in float hub, some time with the exact same settings as previous, sometimes trying different motors or ESCs or other values and yet I’ve got different results each time. My last tune I settled on the V2 motor and the early bird ADV2 ESC (which I couldn’t imagine is the ESC ive got… but it’s the best result..) My last tune feels the most comfortable. It’s the tune I’m now testing and hopefully will serve. It’s a little disheartening because the whole reason for the upgrade is safety but I have less trust in the board now than I ever have. I really don’t feel like the float hub parameters are correct. Mainly the ESC. But again, the the only tune so far to feel like I have appropriate power, my motor sounds good, I don’t click. So for now as I test and watch temps… this is the tune.

Other notes are that my detected motor resistance is slightly out of range measuring 89 ohms. This was not the case when I last tuned by board with the original ESC.

Issue with V2 Electronics

I installed the V2 electronics kit to my ADV. Disclaimer for what it’s worth my board worked as normal before the install. I have no upgrades or modifications to the board beyond the V2 electronics kit.

Upon startup the board balanced and generally felt ok except I had quite a lot of motor noise. Initially I associated this as low speed UFO sound. Further riding I noticed my motor was sounding louder than before, epically under load and a little rough feeling. I could feel the motor in my feet a bit.

I had also noticed another issue. Moderate to heavy braking (only) at low speed was causing the motor to click and give away. At moderate brake pressure I would get a single click that I could feel in my feet. Heavy braking pressure at low speed would result in a loss of balance, and the motor would click over like a clutch on a cordless drill.

All I have tried so far is running motor detection in the VESC tool. (I’m running vesc tool 7.0 and the only way I could find in the app to run motor detection was to run the motor setup wizard).
My motor ran and was detected successfully. After running I was prompted to test reverse and forward remotely to determine if rotation was inverted. I was unable to make the motor rotate with those controls. It would vibrate like it was trying to move. I’ll try to post photos of each parameter as I set them before the motor test. The only photo that is incorrect is the battery which I went back and set to the appropriate value of (8.5ah or something I can’t remember lol)

I am in contact with Tony. He was quick to get back with me which i appreciate but between us we only exchange 1 message per day. So I can only try 1 suggestion per day. Alas I turn to Reddit for assistance. Thank you!

Other notes.

Mine shows a red light going back and forth on the led footpad if the board sits idle for a moment. I’m not sure if this is an indication that some values are off in the motor. Float control also has some disturbing warnings.

Conversion from ADV1 to V2. Something going on with my foot pad switch?

Everything was working perfectly, and after riding about 5 miles, it’s started spiking the wattage and making a little crunch sound like it was turning off and then back on while I was moving. This is very concerning and I am already a bit worried because the BMS failed on me last year and I crashed hard. This is the new footpad so I’m wondering if my settings are messed up? Anyone have this happen?

My friends floatwheel sounds weird while spinning the wheel and riding.

So we changed the tire on my friends floatwheel adv2 and ever since it's been sounding a lot different. It is a Burris treaded, so it would sound different. I just don't recall the motor sounding like this before. It rides perfectly, with no weird behavior, no resistance when spinning the wheel. Any advice? New bearings?

What to expect from V2 Electronics for ADV 1? Further upgrade compatibility?

So I purchased the V2 electronics kit for my ADV. I don’t know what it comes with but it was priced at $200 so perhaps a BMS? There are no photos on the website or description of what’s improved or really what it’s for at all. I was understanding that it was mainly a safety upgrade for the BMS?

I also have just seen all the other upgrades and new stuff on the website and am wondering about plug and play compatibility with my ADV?

I like the idea of picking up the new motor someday and I’ll need a new battery soon.

How will the Floatwheel Atom footpads for size 12 shoes?

My GTS bricked and I think I'm gonna wait for the GTSV drop in, but the Atom seems like it might serve me well enough, although I haven't ridden a Pint in like 4 years and don't remember how it feels under my feet, and they said it's got custom wider footpads than the standard Pint. Size 12 M 150 lbs 6'. Thank you!
