What are some great paid modules that aren’t a subscription? 5e

Hey there, we use DnD 5e and I’d like to find some really cool visual stuff for Foundry, my players and I always love having some really nice visual additions to our game, it’s just our style. Customizing dice, fancy loading screens, effects, etc etc

I hate, HATE subscriptions though, it’s actually one of the reasons I bought foundry was to leave my subscription to roll20 behind. I find a lot of modules are “subscribe to our patreon”

So what are some I can buy once and never have to think about it. Even some patreon ones that after I unsubscribe in the first month, it’ll stay on my Foundry.

Lighting Issue - Lighting Bounds Calculated Incorrectly

Hi there! I'm new to Foundry but I've been using it for a few days now. I've been using DroidCartographer's modular maps for most of my map building, and they're working amazing -- But for this level I imported a JPG map with no walls or lights set up, and set them all up myself. When I went to add lights, there's this issue with the light over the center of the room. When I select the light, it shows me this odd boundary that shows up but I'm unable to narrow down the source. Did some digging into the problem myself, but I failed to find anything relating to this issue.

Far as I can tell nothing else got uploaded when I set the JPG as the background, and the scale of the map is set correctly to line up with the tiles.

If anyone can offer some advice, that'd be greatly appreciated.

[PF2e] Trying to make a lootbox

I want to make an item that works like this:
1: Player uses custom item
2: The item randomly chooses from a rollable table to decide it's outcome
3: The player gets the item rolls.
4: The custom item is consumed and unable to be used again.

I couldn't find any comprehensive videos on how to do scripting for this, so if anyone has any advice or knows where I can find one, please let me know.

Edit: So I managed to make the macro and it works, but I want to attach that marco to using an item. How can I do that?

[System Agnostic] Death Effect Reminder: chat card when an NPC dies with easy-to-forget on-death rules

Description: When a hostile or neutral NPC dies during combat, the module scans its actions, features, and traits for death-triggered rules buried in stat-block text - explosions, revival saves, lingering hazards, loot triggers, and similar effects GMs forget mid-fight.

It posts a chat card listing likely candidates with saving-throw buttons (when the active system supports them) and action buttons so the table can resolve the effect without the GM digging through the sheet.

Output is advisory, not automation - the GM still decides what actually fires. Works in dnd5e and Pirate Borg with best-effort support for other systems. Foundry v13 to v14.

How do you change the source from the srd to the phb

Edit: [DnD 5e]

I'm very new to foundry, I haven't done my first session in it yet. I realized as I was helping my players set up their characters that a lot of the phb for DND 5e is just missing, I tried to import the data into foundry but it's not available as a source, it's just in the journal. Is there a way to change the source to be the imported phb instead of the srd?

I may be using shadow dark or savage worlds pathfinder to run it but still mainly asking for good maps more than anything.

Granting skill proficiency at the end of a long rest

[D&D5e] Hi Reddit. Just started using Foundry and I'm trying to add a custom subclass that lets a player choose a skill to gain proficiency in at the end of a long rest and I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to get Foundry to do this or tutorials or other helpful leading information about how to do this. My first instinct is to use an active effect but getting it to allow choosing which skill to gain proficiency in and triggering it at the right time are a lot harder for me to figure out. Any help is much appreciated! I'm very new to the system, so please be patient and thorough in explanations with me if you'd be so kind.

Losing my mind over multilevels map

Hi everyone, I recently converted to foundry with my DnD group and I'm running a game in DnD5e system on the latest foundry version.

I'm learning as we go but I recently hit a wall with multileveled maps. I followed a guide and everything looks like it works the same except for the region with the Change Level behaviour.
When watching the guide I set up the region to be included in both levels and with an elevation going from the bottom of level 1 to the top of level 2 as shown in the video. But when I tried to use it with a token it does not move it to the second level, it shows me the second level but the token is stuck to the first one (I also can't manually put the token to the second floor for some reason). I've been trying to watch other guides but can't for the life of me get that region to work the way people make it work.
I tried deactivating all my modules and it still doesn't work.

Any modules for combat where it shows the actor's portrait in a separate pop-up window?

Is anyone aware of a module that would, when advancing to the next turn, pop up a window showing the active character's portrait (resizable within the settings) and then it would go away when the next combatant is up? I feel like that would be really cool, but I'm not sure if I have seen anything like that.

I know that Monk's Combat Details can play a sound when it is the player's turn, but showing an image (either the actor's portrait, or a customizable image) would also be helpful.

Donjon Regen — an offline renderer + editor for donjon.bin.sh's dungeon JSON exports

donjon.bin.sh's 5e dungeon generator is great, but once you generate and export the JSON you're locked to the map and have no way of editing it or re-viewing it. So I had AI reverse-engineered the export format and built a tool that re-renders everything locally and offline, and then lets you edit the result.

What it does:

  • Reads donjon's exported JSON and re-renders the GM map, player map, a clickable HTML doc, and TSV/CSV — all offline.

  • Maps are drawn procedurally with Pillow: rooms, corridors, polygon/circle rooms, stairs, and the full door set (arch / door / locked / trapped / secret / portcullis). Door and stair glyphs are generated as pure integer pixel art at the target cell size; no resampling, so lines stay crisp at any scale.

  • A desktop GUI turns it into an editor: paint corridors (with auto-door placement), create / delete / reshape / resize rooms, resize the canvas, mirror rooms, and edit room contents/monsters/treasure/doors.

The procedural-gen-relevant bits were the fun part: donjon packs everything into a 2D array of integer bitmasks (block / room / corridor / wall / aperture / room-ID / door-type / stair / label-char bits), with a symmetric padding offset between the cells array and the map coordinate space. I documented the whole encoding in the repo since I couldn't find it written down anywhere.

Sequencer doesn't load the JB2A animations for my players

I’m running a campaign and my group is encountering a weird, persistent issue with JB2A animations and Sequencer, and I could really use some help troubleshooting it. When my players open the Sequencer Database Viewer, the jb2a folder is completely missing from the list. Only blfx is visible. For me (the GM), both folders are usually there, though sometimes jb2a disappears for me too until a hard refresh. That creates the situation when majority of my animations simply don't run on my players' machines for some reason

Map Labels Missing

Wonder if you guys can help out. I'm running Abomination Vaults for 5e just about to finish first level. Been working fine but logged in this week and there are no room markers on my maps. You know A1. A2 etc.... Tried everything ran it in firefox and opera. Installed the latest stable version of v14. No luck. Just gone.
Any ideas?

[FREE] Ravnica Navigator – Foundry VTT module with 125+ free maps!

Dynamic Tokens [SYSTEM AGNOSTIC]

if you played the old DOOM games I'm sure you remember the character picture "degrading" with your hit points. I wanted that in foundry as well, so i made this module. For transparency: Yes I used AI to code this, no I don't want your money and yes I understand the code, I'm an IT professional in cyber security by trade.

It's simple to setup everything lives in the appearance tab of the token settings and you can preview the changes there. You can also randomize images for thresholds and have status effect overrides. On my table its mainly used by players.

Revealing the fog of war in the location

Hi! I need some help with Foundry VTT v13.

I'm using Foundry to display the game on a TV for my players. I control an invisible token that moves around the map to reveal areas through Fog of War.

The problem is that when the token enters a room, only the area within its line of sight is revealed. My maps have pillars, corners, furniture, and other obstacles that block vision, so parts of the room remain covered by Fog of War until I move the token around.

What I'd like instead is this:

  • As soon as the token enters a room, the entire room is permanently revealed in Fog Exploration.
  • Other rooms should remain hidden until the token enters them.
  • I don't want to manually move the token around every corner just to uncover the whole room.

Is there a built-in way to do this in Foundry VTT v13, or is there a module or macro that can reveal an entire region/room when a token enters it?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

[System Agnostic] Selective Sight: show different map elements to each player in the same Foundry scene

Description: Show different tiles, drawings, tokens, and map notes to different players — all in the same active scene, with shared mouse positions and pings intact.

Each player sees whatever the GM has tagged for them. One player finds a wardrobe that doesn't exist on anyone else's map. Another sees a rune no one else can read. A ghost that only the haunted character can perceive. Nothing in the scene data changes; visibility is suppressed client-side so the rest of the shared canvas works normally.

GMs configure visibility from a right-click context menu or HUD button on any tile, drawing, token, or note. A "preview as player" toolbar mode lets the GM verify exactly what each player sees before the session starts.

Multi-level transparent map [Pathfinder 2]

I'm making a multi-level map, and I was wondering if it would be possible to have the players be able to look down from the map on top to the lower map by using transparent sections or something like that. E.g. if there's a balcony overlooking an area on the first floor.

Really happy to finally share this one with you. I've been working on Ocean for a long time, and honestly, it's a really special module to me

Ocean turns any Foundry Region into living water, and any token into a ship. Draw a region, add the ocean water behavior, and that area becomes an ocean, a lake, a river, or a still pool down in a dungeon. The surface moves on its own and never loop

You can adjust almost everything about the water: color, flow speed and direction, lighting mood, how big the waves get, foam, reflections and more. The settings you'll reach for most are gathered in a "favorites" panel, so you can get a good-looking sea in seconds and then go as deep as you like, saving your own presets along the way

Turn a token into a ship and it really sits in the water: when a swell rolls through, the bow lifts and the hull rocks. Ships leave a wake as they sail, and a token wading across a lake sends ripples spreading outward, ring after ring. Scene light has a real position and color, so switching between a clear day, a golden sunset or a moonlit night shifts the whole mood of the sea in real time

Ocean is currently in early access for the "The Architect" tier on Patreon, and will open to everyone once the early access period wraps up. The 3D ship hulls come from the companion scenic3d module, installed alongside ocean.

This one's special to me. I started making it because my own campaign is about to reach its ocean exploration arc. It was also incredibly complicated to pull off, honestly the second most complex module I've built so far

If I host with my PC can I run the game with a cheap laptop?

[System Agnostic] Title.

I have a very powerful PC and recently got a TV Case to put on my table to run games with a digital map. However, I would like to use a laptop at the table for GM purposes such as moving around tokens and changing maps, so on. That way the players aren't seeing all my behind the scenes GM management and UI stuff and just see the maps and enemies and so on.

Because my PC is so good and I don't travel much outside of going to work, I REALLY don't want to invest in a powerful laptop solely just to run 4k Animated Foundry, in fact I really don't have much of a need for a laptop outside of this one purpose. So I'm wondering, if my PC is hosting does that mean it handles everything in regards to the specs needed for all the bells and whistles and even on a dinky chromebook playing as GM I could run everything perfectly? Or beyond the internet connection my computer doesn't actually do anything and thus I need a powerful laptop to run foundry at that level?

My plan is to connect my PC to the TV and open Foundry as a player then use the laptop as a GM, that is assuming again that since the PC hosts it would handle all the effort of actually running Foundry.

Edit: I actually thought of a solution that doesn't involve a laptop, especially seeing that the laptop would still need to be able handle a decent amount of the workload and I just really can't justify the money needed to perform a fraction as well as my computer.

I'm just gonna buy a small monitor to put in front of me to use like a laptop screen. If it wasn't for the fact I live in a studio and my current monitor is actually just my TV i'd just use whatever monitor I already have lol. So I can use my computer as both a host and a client while keeping my GM stuff hidden. Thank you for the answers, it gave me a chance to think on my problem more and come up with a different solution!
