An update for those interested

Hey everyone!

Last month I made a post about my project to consolidate 4AD into Obsidian.md. Just wanted to provide an update for anyone that was interested!

What's changed:

I finally purchased 4AA, as well as WAA, so the majority of my time has been spent importing that content, as well as what I have of the Twisted series (hoards, minions, dungeons, final fights). I’ve also spent a lot of time cleaning up my vault and modularizing individual items (traits, equipment, spells, etc) so that they can be displayed more cleanly in bases instead of handmade tables. This involved going through and cleaning up the properties/tags for the 1000+ notes I've collected, which was a lot of work but largely worth it for the cleaner structure imo.

This also provided me with a better way to organize my Table of Contents and Commonly Used Resources pages, which is the main way I navigate the vault while playing. This new structure should also support adding additional content more smoothly, although I'm sure as I go along it will still need to be tweaked to a certain extent.

As far as future plans:

I've also purchased TTT, so that's next on my list. There's definitely a lot of content in there, so I'm just trying to wrap my head around how I want to organize it before I get started. I also am continuing to clean up the vault in order to make sure it's ready to support an influx of such a large number of notes. It's a big book, but I figure it's important to get it in sooner rather than later just to help keep things organized moving forward. Things should be (relatively) smooth sailing after this.

On my last post someone commented that I should consider posting a play through, and I've decided to take the plunge and try posting a campaign on Youtube! I can't provide an exact time frame for when you can expect videos, but I'm in the process of figuring out how to get all of that set up so be on the lookout for future posts!

Anyway, probably too long of a post but if you've made it this far I appreciate the read! Happy delving

I love killing/retiring older parties so I can make new ones

I think making new parties is almost more fun than the dungeon delve itself. Still trying to find the best setup for playing and tracking, but I think the latest is the most practical.

The Forgotten Well - My first game, 2 delving days, 1 dead rogue... a lot of fun

Finally finished my first dungeon. (Randomly generated)

It took 2 in game days of delving because the invisible gremlin stole my weapons after 7 rooms. Luckily we made enough money to get back righ away and keep exploring, re rolling every rooms and corridor.

Today I played "Day 2" on post its that I will resume and journal on paper.

Unfortunately a young dragon burned to crisp Raul, our rogue, who jumped in front of the breath attack to save his sister (that's my role-playing, in reality he simply failed 3 saving throws in a row, and the dragon had 3 breath in a row.)

I had a lot of fun adding the permanent burning scar to the wizard who reached 1 Life Point twice in a row after being healed.

Raul was Rhea brother so it will probably has some consequences, mostly after the mage escaped with magic while Barret and Rea still had to run through three rooms before reaching the exit leaving them with no torches.

Luckily Raul body had some torches on it.

Really fun session.

Heroes/monster miniatures

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know where I can buy miniatures for this beautiful Game?

I'm mainly looking for the base roster heroes, common enemies, bosses .., either painted or unpainted. Ideally from a shop or creator that offers multiple models rather than just a few individual figures. Perfect would be a Set with all Monsters. I could Not find anything.

Any recommendations or links would be appreciated. Thanks a lot

Anyone used The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox to add more detail?

I've been looking through my copy and seeing how I might employ it to give some backstory and variety to the usual 4AD runs. For example, there is a table with 100 different dungeon encounters you could use instead of just Room Contents. I was thinking I could roll a dice at the start of the dungeon that determines what room in the dungeon will spring this encounter.

I will try it out and report back, but as I head off I thought I would see if anyone else has used some aspects of this resource with 4AD.

Thanks, adventurers!

Mushroom Monk

I scrolled right past the Mushroom Monk because I thought it was too goofy. But, I needed to replace some dead PCs and rolled a random choice from EE and stuck with what I rolled. I had no idea my new PC Kiniko Shitake was such a badass. And the tier bonuses are super good. I’ll be leveling this guy, assuming he survives.

A Concise Collection of Clarifying Questions

Apologies if these have been answered before, but a quick search hasn’t pulled anything up for me. Just a few questions if anybody has any insight..

About the crossbow/ranged attacks: The rules state it takes 1 turn to reload. Does this mean the character just misses the “melee” turn in this round, or do they also miss the entire next round?

About the Light Gladiator: The rules state that the Light Gladiator is only allowed Light Hand Weapons, but also states that they can use other weapons and treat them as Light Weapons. Going off of this, when applying Expert Skills, the rules state that you can choose any skills for Warriors or Rogues except skills related to weapons you can’t use. Does that mean I can only choose skills related to Light Hand Weapons? Or all the others since the class can technically use all weapons?

About the Kukla: When applying Expert Skills, the Kukla doesn’t have a specific list or “as a rogue” tag like all of the other characters do. She does have 2 skills specific to the Kukla. Can she only get these skills? Or does she also get Rogue (or other character) skills?

About the Giant Spider: The rules state that PCs hit by the Spider must save vs poison or lose 1 life. Most other monsters with this mechanic state that you lose 1 *additional* life. Is this the case here as well, or is this wording intentional?

Suggestions On Support Material to Learn the Game

Greetings, Collective.

I have recently purchased the core book for 4AD and have read it from cover to cover several times—an excellent description of the rules.

What I need is a supplement that takes my hand - as a new player - through those rules.

Are there any recommendations that teach as you play?

Storage for Decks, Books and papers

What options do you folks use to store your various decks and gear needed for play? Preferably something portable that keeps your gear safe while you're on the go, but is good for keeping your stuff in at home as well.

Do the classes in the extra material make the game too easy?

In Four Against The Abyss the Expanded Edition there are all those new classes, do I use them or does it become too easy?

Thanks for your advice!

Orders

I got my second orders in dice from Dice Envy and book from Lulu. With dice this puts me at 8 full sets no copies on colors. Lulu order was 7 books this was one of the 7. I am done with dice for now. Have one more order from Lulu coming 9 books. That's the big one with TTTs, 4AA, TCOFD, WA and twisted hoards just to name a few. Once that comes in I am done with book orders.

As of now I have done the wizard ordeal and Dark Waters plus using WW for cavern exploration. Gonna make some more maps for overland. Too easy to avoid housework now.
