Laugh tracks on LoL

I am a longtime fan of LoL and I was listening to the July 1st episode and the first couple of jokes, the laugh reaction felt like it was generated or canned? I dunno, it just felt like an episode of Rick and Morty where Unity the hive mind has taken over a whole group of people and they laugh at something but then they laugh again in the exact same way or they laugh at something that is not funny. I laughed at about 4 out of 7 opening jokes I think this latest episode but the diarrhea joke felt flat for me but the audience seemed to perfunctorily laugh for it and then I was what’s going on here.

Weekly Discussion Thread (Mon, Jun 29 - Sun, Jul 05)

We are trying something new. The thread will stay up for a week now to allow more conversation.

This is the place to share your thoughts, links, polls, concerns, or whatever else you'd like with our community — so long as it's within our thread rules (below). If you've got something to say in response to a particular episode of a Crooked Media show, it's better to post that in the discussion post for that specific episode because this general audience of all Crooked pods may not know what you're talking about. But you don't even have to keep it relevant to Crooked Media in this thread. Pretty much just don't be a jerk and you're good.

Rules for Daily General Discussion threads:

  1. Don't be a jerk.
  • This includes, but is not limited to: personal attacks, insults, trolling, hate speech, and calls for violence. Everyone is entitled to a point of view, but post privileges are reserved for users that can express their views in good faith.
  1. Don't repeat bullshit.
  • Please don't make us weigh in or fact-check grey areas in endlessly heated debates between to pedants who will never budge from their position. But if you're here to spread misinformation about anything that's verifiably not true and bad for the community, mods will intervene.
  1. Use the report tool wisely.
  • Report comments that break the two rules above (mostly the first). It's not modmail, that's here. Abusing the report tool wastes our sub's limited resources. We report it to admin and suspend the account from the sub.

JD Vance, the guy in charge of negotiating a peace deal, instead goes on Real Time to sell his latest book. WTF.

Terrible timing, lack of judgment, presidential ambition, all of the above. We’re doomed.

This info on Tulsi is pretty widely know already, right???

Correct me if I’m wrong…. The cult membership of Tulsi has been pretty widely know… not to mention VERY in depth in a recent “This Fucking Guy” on Crooked’s OWN Hysteria podcast… I understand the WaPo article was more in-depth with details about the emails, but is this really coming as a surprise to the guys???? I thought this was kinda common knowledge since she ran for 2020….
Don’t get me wrong- long time listener, and I love their tales of how things used to work (and how they should work) in a functional govt, but trying to be a “media” company with zero investigative journalism (or even obvious connection or knowledge) is not what a media company makes.

Why Is The Bulwark Getting More Guest Appearances?

Am I the only one who is not a fan of WAD inviting talking heads from The Bulwark onto the show?

My personal politics are center-left/progressive. But I’ve been a fan of WAD for years - and through several different hosts. It was always a great way to get my news in the morning from the center. And I also dig Jane as a host.

But I’m concerned that WAD is bringing on more right-leaning voices to weigh-in on their main stories. The Bulwark is a right-leaning network, and Tim Miller is a Never Trump guy who I don’t think I have much in common with politically - aside from us both hating Trump.

On a similar note, I don’t love that Matt Ygelsias has become a recurring guest every couple of months, either.

I guess my concern, ultimately, is WAD incrementally shifting to being a more right-leaning by welcoming these voices on. Every time a Bulwark guest appears on the show, I worry about what that says about the direction of Crooked Media.

I’ll take my answers off the air.

AOC weighs in on the conversation about DSA wins

AOC weighs in on how damaging, ridiculous and self fulfilling the establishment freak out over DSA wins can be.

Ive been skeptical of her ability to pull off a 28 run, but she is seeming pretty god damned presidential here.
