VORTEX-G | Huge update to handling and "feel" based on your feedback. What do you think now?

I have spent the last few days reworkng the physics and visual/audio feedback. Added dynamic camera, differential thrust (engines react to steering), sparking on heavy banking, and new engine/grinding sounds based on pilots from here who adviced this.

It feels much more aggressive and "physical" now so thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Trailer in Steam still reflects previous state of the game, it will be updated as soon as im entirely sure its complete

This game is phenomenal

Just got back from college to play on my family’s Switch 2 and decided to try out F zero gx(I had heard of it but never played). Whatever they got goin on is just peak; characters, graphics, course design, it goes on and on. Decided to take on the story mode which I’ve read is quite hard(stuck on 4th chapter right now), but I must say this is absolutely one of the most underrated games I’ve ever played and deserves far more praise. I think I’m in love.

You guys were right: I overhauled the handling based on your feedback! Old vs. New comparison, please let me know your thoughts

After reading your comments on my last post, I realized the steering felt too "locked" and linear. I have spent the last few days refactoring the physics:

  • Added a Steering Curve: No more instant 100% rotation. It now builds up for more precision.
  • Added "Swing" / Inertia: The ship now has weight and a bit of organic sway when releasing the keys/buttons (this game plays with keyboard or gamepad).
  • Tilting is more reactive: Now the tilting effect is faster and more responsive to your input

It's still a Work In Progress (WIP), but I would love to hear if you think this is moving in the right direction. Thanks for helping me make VORTEX-G better!!

PS Im sorry im not the best pilot ever, new system may be making people get a better time not a worse time as turns can be done in a sharper way

Hi everyone!

I've been solo-developing VORTEX-G for about two years now. It’s an anti-gravity racing game where I’ve put a massive amount of work into the physics and the built-in track editor.

Being a solo dev means wearing many hats, but fine-tuning the high-speed "flow" has been the biggest challenge so far. I’ve just finished this new trailer and I’m looking for some feedback on the visual clarity and the sense of speed.

You can see more or add it to your Wishlist here:https://store.steampowered.com/app/4570010/VORTEXG_AntiGravity_Racing__Track_Editor/

Thanks for the support!

How to stop biting the switch

Hey everyone,

I'm a newer player to fzero 99 but have played the original for years. I've lately come across an issue, sometimes when the game screws me over and makes me lose despite CLEARLY executing properly on the races. Normally when I get upset I have a habit of biting my switch in anger, it leaves marks on the joycons and screen from time to time but I don't really mind.

However, last night I was playing on my son's switch while he was asleep since mine was out of battery, I got clearly screwed by the game blowing me up when I still had a little bit of power, I bit the switch without thinking and left a few marks on his screen, it wouldn't bother me but he was pretty upset about it.

I guess my question is does anyone else struggle with this or have any tips or tricks to avoid biting their switch when they play? Like I said I don't mind it on my own but I don't want to have a repeat incident where I upset my son or damage his things. Thanks!

I don’t understand snaking at all

Im playing gx on switch 2 and I have it on max acceleration and I’m turning left and right while pressing L and R and nothings happening at all. What could I be doing wrong?

Tips for When the Game Cheats?

I have been playing F-Zero 99 for a few hours now and plan to become the best. I was about to secure my first ever top 5 (at level 7) and the game CLEARLY pushed my car in a direction I did not want to go and caused my opponent to win. I reacted and yelled so loud that my son woke up, causing my wife and I to get into an argument. I know that the game likely doesn't want low level players getting top 5s in races but I find it insane that they would go so far as to target and sabotage individual players like this especially those of my skill. Has anyone dealt with this who can give me some tips to counteract it? Or do I just need to increase my level?

A new F-Zero player's thoughts on GX Story Mode (Very Hard)

Hi! I started playing GX around 3 weeks ago, and after playing the Grand Prix for a bit and beating story mode on Normal, decided to give Very Hard a go, and here I am! Here are my thoughts on each stage.

Chapter 1 - Really liked this one! Very fun figuring out the pattern to get all the capsules efficiently, and most of the hard turns were on lap 1, so I didn't have too many last lap fails, (Although I still somehow managed to lose by a margin of 1 capsule like 4 times...). One of the harder missions, but very satisfying, and unlocking Rainbow Phoenix is an awesome reward.

Chapter 2 - Simultaneously one of the easiest and most annoying stages. The boulder patterns for the majority of the stage are pitfully easy to dodge, except for the ones on the last turn where they throw a clusterfuck of boulders at you that I only learned to navigate after several deaths, and since it takes about a minute to get to said last turn, it was quite the time waster. More frustrating/time wasting than difficult.

Chapter 3 - Extremely fun! Not too hard, and since the AI's boost is so strong, you have to have a good lead on them in order to not get overtaken on the final straight, which really encouraged me to learn the track, and how to dive efficiently. Fairly easy and very fun.

Chapter 4 - I lucked out and beat this in about 3 tries, which goes to show how shit this mission is. Feels like complete luck whether you can manage to kill all the racers efficiently, which consequently would've made this a complete pain in the ass if I hadn't gotten so lucky lol

Chapter 5 - This was the first chapter I tried to beat on Very Hard, since I had gotten bored of trying to beat mission 9 on my first story mode playthrough on Normal, so I gave this a try instead. Took me an extremely long time to beat, most likely because I was inexperienced at the time. I still really enjoyed this one though, and finally getting that perfect run was insanely satisfying. Although, the Gamecube Controller's large deadzone oftentimes made the small adjustments this mission requires annoyingly difficult to make, and having to start the mission out with 10 long, boring seconds of non-stop boosting with no turns every attempt held this chapter back from being my favorite.

Chapter 6 - Nothing to say about this one, literally took me 2 attempts. I already learned the track by virtue of beating Normal and Hard difficulties to unlock Very Hard, so by that point I had already mastered this stage. I do find it funny though that, quite fittingly, your reward for beating such an easy chpater is the worst car in the game lmao

Chapter 7 - I was very excited to try this level out after everything I had heard about it. On the one hand, everyone considers this level to be an impossibly difficult challenge, but on the other hand people like Sepi say it's incredibly overrated, and that since the AI supposedly "slows down on the final straight", it's a complete cakewalk. I was eager to test this notion out, so when I got to that final straight for the first time, I boosted like there was no tomorrow and... I lost. Yeah, the AI just never slowed down for me like Sepi said they would, and it took me quite a few attempts before I managed to get a large enough lead going into the final turn to boost to victory. It took me about 2.5 hours to beat, and while it was pretty hard, it never seemed impossible like people say it is. To be honest I think there's a great deal of luck at play when it comes to beating this; since there are so many cars on this narrow track, that can lead to crazy ass interactions like getting knocked super far ahead into 1st, or getting decimated within the first 5 seconds of the race. All in all, a hard race, but not impossible with a bit of luck.

Chapter 8 - Really quite easy especially after chapter 7, after learning where the most problematic mines were, and to avoid them or use them to mineboost, I managed to clear this after about 15 or so attempts. Pretty painless, and very fun to be honest, I think this is a surprisingly fair race considering you're pretty much racing the devil himself, and the track is very fun.

Chapter 9 - Really quite easy, I find that this mission is more of a fight to stay alive than beat the ghost, since I never made it to the finish line and lost, only fell off the course. All it really took was mastering a few turns and the dive towards the end, and I was home free.

All in all, I really enjoyed Very Hard! It's not quite as bad as people make it out to be, and so long as you're determined enough to not give up, even F-Zero newcomers like me can beat it. So yeah! If you for some reason actually read all of this incredibly long rant, please let me know what you thought about it, or how your own playthroughs of Very Hard have gone. See ya!

How do I snake in GX on switch???

I just started the game and I’m SO confused 😭😭

I have it on max speed (all the way to the right) and right now I’m at the very start of story mode and I’m trying to get the 30 parts in 60 seconds and it doesn’t seem possible without snaking

Golden Fox - 3D Print

So, here is the 2nd one, the GOLDEN FOX... this time I really push harder to deliver animatable flaps. I also included a ball joint scheme in the magnet of the bottom, so now you can simulate steering inclination. Now I finally learned how to do a proper dry brush metal paint. Individual windows were tricky, since I used pyramids that needed to fit perfectly...
