Teach You a Lesson (Korean show) - thoughts from GTO fans?

there is this (relatively) new show from Korea (on Netflix) which has become a global hit and was immediately renewed for season 2, and i wonder if anyone else has seen it? any thoughts?

as the title suggests, it's about a badass teacher disciplining delinquents, based on a manhwa, which itself was probably an attempt at a modern day Korean adaptation of GTO (or correct me if GTO itself is inspired by something else which may have been the manhwa's real "blueprint"), BUT...

it lacks all the humor & absurdism, and instead of an ex gangster + goofball who means well, the guy is an ex special forces + actual appointed official with license (yes literally) to use violence on students

so yeah, clearly a different take on the concept, but idk, seems to have taken all the life and joy out of it in the process? what's so fun about an Onizuka if you play it super straight and force it to be plausible or realistic? (i mean cmon, the premise guarantees that's a non-starter lmfao)

tldr: after giving the show a try for 2 episodes i still didnt get the hype and gave up, it just felt like a failed take on "Korean GTO with a twist." would you agree? or do you think it's worth watching after all?

GTO 1998 is now on Netflix... but it is better watched elsewhere.

Those who have seen the classic 1998 drama version of GTO starring Takashi Sorimachi know how big of a role the music played in the series. The show used many instrumental background music tracks to heighten emotional scenes, help sell comedic moments, and to set the mood. The importance the selection and placement of music had in giving the series its soul, can not be overstated.

When the series was released on Blu-Ray three years ago, that soul was ripped right out of it. While the theme song and a handful of background music tracks remained, most - yes, most - of the background music in the show was missing. Replaced by tracks from other scenes that now got repeated ad nauseam, or by generic stock music with no impact, or in some cases with plain silence. As a result, the tone and atmosphere of large portions of the show was heavily altered, making it a less effective drama series overall.

To my great disappointment, it is the same mangled version that got released on Blu-Ray in Japan three years ago that has now been made available globally on Netflix. (Netflix Japan still had the original version as of yesterday, when last I checked.)

All this to say; anyone looking to experience this beloved series for the first time, or revisit it for the sake of nostalgia, well... The version that's currently available on Netflix (and Blu-Ray) sadly isn't the real deal.

Onizuka's family portrait [made by myself gaabyz_art]

I hope you mates enjoy my drawing; I made it especially for fans of the Eikichi x Azusa ship!
.
Onizuka Eikichi (39yo)
Onizuka Azusa (39yo)
Onizuka Rei (16 yo)
Onizuka Kyosuke (14yo)

I really picture a 40-year-old Eikichi with black hair instead of blonde hair (like Takashi Sorimachi, for me he's the perfect Eikichi 30+ and my inspiration for this design), but his daughter, Rei, definitely inherited that delinquent style and personality 😂

What should I do?

I watched the gto anime and started the young gto. I was thinking about watching everything first than reading all of the manga. Is that a good way of doing it or should I just drop everything and start from shonan jumai gumi manga and read everything in order. Also where can I find bad company.
