HP Omen 16 (Ultra 9 275HX / RTX 5080): TF7 Repaste & Tuning Results

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a quick before-and-after of taming this laptop. If you're running these specs in a hot room, you know the struggle.

The Specs: HP Omen Max 16 | Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX | RTX 5080 16GB | 64GB RAM

The Problem: Out of the box in summer heat (no AC), this thing was a furnace. Under gaming load, it was literally shutting itself off to prevent melting. Here are the results of repasting with Thermalright TF7 and tweaking the fans (Fans very very important).

🔴 BEFORE (Summer, No AC)

 • Idle: CPU 65°C | GPU 60°C
 • Gaming (Turbo ON): CPU 100°C | GPU 90°C (Resulted in random system shut-offs)
 • Gaming (Turbo OFF): CPU 80-85°C | GPU 85°C (Chassis burning at 50°C)

🟢 AFTER TF7 Repaste (Summer, No AC)

 • Idle: CPU 60°C | GPU 55°C
 • Gaming (Turbo OFF, Stock Fans): CPU 80-85°C | GPU 85°C (Note: Paste alone didn't drop peak load temps here)
 • Gaming (Turbo OFF + Custom Fans): CPU <70°C | GPU <75°C (Custom curve: Fans start at 40% from 50°C)
 • Idle (Custom Fans): CPU 50°C | GPU 45°C

❄️ THE FINAL FORM (TF7 + Custom Fan curves + AC Room)

 • Idle: CPU 42°C | GPU 34°C
 • Gaming Load: CPU <70°C | GPU <70°C

TL;DR: If your Omen is shutting down from summer heat, repasting with TF7 helps base thermals, but the real magic happens when you pair it with Turbo disabled and an aggressive custom fan curve (Unleashed mode, but no unleashed 😂). Dropped my gaming temps from system-crashing 100°C down to a very comfortable sub-70°C. And trust me...hardly any performance issue observed, not even with AI inference. Games running smooth and stutter free!!! Hope this helps!

Whats a good cooling pad for the legion 5?

My primary concern is it being effective above all, so i want to make sure it has a foam pad. Aside from that, as long as its a reasonable price and is not unreasonably loud, im good with anything. Also, im not sure if there are different sizes for different laptops that i should be aware of

The Ultimate Thunderbolt Signal Fix: How I finally got a flawless, rock-solid connection

The Ultimate Thunderbolt Signal Fix: How I finally got a flawless, rock-solid connection.

If you’re using the Thunderbolt / USB-C port on your laptop to run a projector or monitor, you probably know the nightmare I was dealing with. I have a high-end gaming laptop (Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S 2025), and for weeks, I couldn't get a rock solid stable image.

The problems I was having:

 • The signal would just cut out randomly after a few hours of use.
 • If I powered off hibernated or restarted my laptop my external projector/monitor would say "No Signal."
 • Sometimes the screen would turn a weird green color for no reason.
 • I use magnetic adapters to save my ports from wear and tear, but if I even slightly nudged the cable while closing the blinds, the signal would die and wouldn't come back without a reboot or some serious finagling or propping up the wire just right.

I tried a high-quality USB-C to HDMI adapter, but it was nothing but glitches. I was about to give up and assume my "ingenious" magnetic adapter plan just wouldn't work.

How I accidentally fixed it:

I happened to have a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter made by the same company lying around. I also had a passive DisplayPort to HDMI cable for my desktop graphics card lying around. I decided to try a "weird" chain just to see what happened.

I continued using my Aufu brand 24-pin magnetic adapter system because I love how the insert sits nearly flush with the back of the laptop and it's design is superior to other magnetic thunderbolt because it has an insert that keeps it straight and level.

I simply unplugged the USB-C end of the magnetic adapter and snapped it onto the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter instead. Then I used that passive DP-to-HDMI cable to reach the projector.

It was like magic. Everything worked flawlessly.

The "Magic Chain" Recipe:

If you want to fix your signal issues, stop using USB-C to HDMI adapters. Use this exact setup instead:

 1. The Port: Either your Thunderbolt 4 port (connected to the dGPU) or your other USB-C port (connected to the iGPU). This fix works perfectly on both!
 2. The Connector: Aufu brand 24-pin Magnetic USB-C adapters. These are designed to stay seated and connected even with a heavy cable behind them. Because they use all 24 pins, they fully utilize all functions including 240W power, 100W charging, and 40Gbps data transfer.
 3. The "Secret" Adapter: A USB-C to DisplayPort (Female) adapter.
 4. The Cable: A Passive DisplayPort (Male) to HDMI (Male) cable (or a standard DisplayPort cable if your monitor has a DP port).
 5. The Display: Plug the cable into your projector, TV, or gaming monitor.

Tested & Confirmed:

I’ve now tested this "daisy chain" with two different setups and both work perfectly:

 • Setup A: USB-C Adapter -> Passive DP-to-HDMI Cable -> 1080p Projector.
 • Setup B: USB-C Adapter -> Standard DisplayPort Cable -> LG Gaming Monitor.

Even using an old DisplayPort cable from my desktop, it worked flawlessly. (Note: I haven't tested a direct USB-C to USB-C video cable because I don't have a display that accepts Thunderbolt input, but for everything else, this is the fix).

Why you should try this (especially if you're a skeptic):

I’m not a computer scientist, but these laptop ports seem to "prefer" talking to DisplayPort gear rather than HDMI gear. When you go straight to HDMI via USB-C, the connection is very "fragile." With this DisplayPort setup, the connection is rock-solid. Now, if I bump the cable, it might flicker for a split second, but it snaps right back to a perfect image.

Before you tell me "that shouldn't make a difference," just try it. This whole setup is incredibly cheap. I got my parts from AliExpress and spent about:

 • **$6** for the Aufu Magnetic Adapter
 • **$6** for the USB-C to DisplayPort adapter
 • **$6** for the DP-to-HDMI cable

For less than $20, I fixed a problem that was driving me crazy for months. It works on the dGPU, the iGPU, and survives restarts and bumps perfectly. If you're tired of your screen cutting out, just copy this setup and move on with your life!

Hardware I used:

$6.04 - 24 Pin AUFU USBC 4.0 Thunderbolt 3/4 Magnetic Adapter (Good Idea To Buy Extra Tips & Heads)

$5.01 - Thunderbolt / USBC 4.0 to DisplayPort (female) Adapter

$6.74 - 1M DisplayPort to HDMI Cable Passive (Haven't tested: 2M, 3M, 8K)

It took me a long time to write this post if it helps one person I'll be thankful. I'm not a shill for AliExpress it just so happens that they have all the stuff that I needed.

I used an AI to verify the engineering here. Basically, these ports are native to DisplayPort, so keeping the signal in its 'native language' prevents the fragile handshakes and crashes common with direct HDMI adapters. If you want the full technical breakdown, just ask!

EXTRA PRO TIPS:

Use AUFU branded Magnetic 9-Pin USBC Cables that support ALL fast charging protocols. I have a nine pin magnetic tip in every electronic device that recharges and I use one cable to recharge them all at full speed.

540° USBC MAGNETIC CABLE ADAPTER APPLE USB-C MICRO USBC

90° 9-PIN MAGNETIC FAST CHARGING CABLE (my fav - no moving parts)

9 PIN USBC-USBA MAGNETIC ADAPTER - Pair with a flush USBA-USBC adapter and you have a quick disconnect adapter for any USBA dongle - Mice, Keyboards, handheld keyboards that can wake your computer unlike BT keyboards.

FLUSH USBA TO USBC ADAPTER

9 PIN 540° USBC CABLE 1M/2M

I have a small collapsible multiport Tooki 67W GaN QC 4+/PD 3.0/PPS Wall charger, unfortunately it's sold out everywhere.

Star Stable: Laptop/Specs Recommendations?

Hello,
I want to buy a laptop primarily for office applications and playing Star Stable. Besides I like to play Sims 4.
The laptop I have now is fine, but very old, but everything except Star Stable runs alright on it.

The game gets so laggy while playing and the graphic is not so good as i'd like to have it.

I'm looking for a laptop, which can fulfill my expectations to run clear and have a good picture. I checked the minimum and recommended specs on the SSO website to check.

Im unsure if I can trust the minimum techn. details or if it's better to focus on the recommended details for laptop. Also which one I should choose for each section, because for the recommended ones it shows i7 and i9. Im thinking about buying one with an i7 and 16 GB Ram and dedicated graphics card. I dont know if its necessary but a stable graphic would be good.

I dont want to overpay for a laptop if its not necessary.

Please let me know, what laptop you play it on (if you do) and if it runs good and which technical components you would recommend. Im happy about all opinions and insights.
Thank you :)

Looking for the best RTX gaming laptop in 2026

I am planning to upgrade to an RTX gaming laptop this year. Is getting the 30-series gaming laptop worth it, or is it too old for 2026? ( I am flexible on the budget part as long as I get a good deal.

How to fix this kb?

I was cleaning my kb with tooth brush. The key came off along with the clips that hold the key in place and the rubber dome. I called asus service center and they are charging 10k for new keyboard, and said only cannot be replaced.
I live in Faridabad, so if anyone has an idea of where should I go please respond.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. don’t ask how anyone could break, but I’m that anyone 😂

External keyboards are a game changer

I recently got a gaming laptop. The experience playing games with its own keyboard was a bit meh to me. I really disliked the warmness on the deck

I think its very understated fact how an external keyboard can change your experience. The warmness during gaming can get really annoying really quickly, but having an external keyboard makes the whole laptop more enjoyable to use.

G16 sustained gaming performance.

Hey y’all, the motherboard on my legion 5 pro gen 6 (r7, 3060) died recently and I’ve been looking at new laptops. I know the zephyrus and legion are on different ends of the gaming laptop spectrum due to size and battery but I had no issues with super long and heavy gaming sessions on the legion and didn’t care too much about battery life either.

I now have more of a need to commute with my laptop multiple times a week and the legion+charger makes it really hard to do so.
So I’ve been keeping an eye out for the 2025 g16 5070ti, do you guys think this can compare with the legion in terms of keeping up top performance for long hours with no issues?

(Also pls lmk if the 2026 zephyrus is worth waiting on a sale for, im assuming we only see half decent sales on that machine starting black friday)
Budget: $2100

Thanks guys

Low FPS on MSI Crosshair 18 A2XW

Hello everyone!

I've bought this laptop for $1400,00, so i'm pretty convinced i made a good deal. But to be honest i was expecting a litte more performance. Mostly i play DOTA 2 and im disappointed that this laptop can't hold 200+ fps on teamfights... does anyone has also felt the same? Were my expectations too high? Anyone fixed it?

btw i tried lowering my resolution and had almost no gain.

PS: I know my english is bad, so please dont flame me for that.

Blender freezes my entire PC (Omen 16 RTX 5070) but games run perfectly — losing my mind

Hi guys, I seriously don’t know what to do anymore.

I have an Omen 16 laptop with an RTX 5070, and since I got it I’ve been having issues specifically with Blender.

At the beginning, I had this weird problem where black lines would appear when moving the mouse in the viewport, and after a while the whole PC would completely freeze (hard freeze, no input at all, forced shutdown).

Someone here suggested disabling the integrated GPU because it might conflict with the dedicated one. I did that, and the black lines disappeared — so that part is fixed.

BUT Blender still randomly freezes my entire PC.

Important details:

 • It happens even in viewport, not only during rendering
 • It’s completely random (sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes longer)
 • When it freezes, the whole system locks (not just Blender)
 • Temperatures seem fine
 • Drivers are updated

What confuses me is:
When I play games, I NEVER get freezes. Everything runs perfectly stable.

So now I’m stuck wondering:

 • Is this a Blender issue?
 • GPU drivers?
 • Some setting I’m missing?
 • Hardware problem?

I really don’t want to send the laptop back AGAIN (it would be the second time), but I also can’t work like this.

If anyone had a similar issue or has ideas on what to check, I’d really appreciate it 🙏

Should I get this used Lenovo Legion 7 for my first serious gaming laptop?

I’m wondering if I should get this laptop since it’s gonna be my first serious gaming laptop. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Legion 7 lineup, but I just wanted to make sure this is still a good buy considering it’s used.
Specs:
Lenovo Legion 7 16”
165Hz QHD+ display
Ryzen 9 5900HX
RTX 3080
32GB RAM
2TB SSD
Price: $1,169.99
I mainly want something powerful that’ll last me a while for gaming, school, and general use. I know it’s an older model, but the specs still seem really strong to me, especially the 3080.
Would you guys say this is worth it in 2026 for the price, or should I look for something newer instead? Also anything specific I should check since it’s used?

Did I get a good deal? Alienware x16 R2, RTX 4090, QHD+ 240Hz for 1800€

Hi everyone, I recently bought a used Alienware x16 R2 and I’d like to know if the price was good.

Specs:

Alienware x16 R2

Intel Core Ultra 9 185H

NVIDIA RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, 16 GB VRAM

32 GB RAM

2 × 1 TB SSD, around 2 TB total

16" QHD+ 2560×1600 display, 240 Hz, G-SYNC

Original Dell 330W charger

US keyboard layout

No original box

Warranty expired

Some visible cosmetic marks on the lid

I paid 1800€ for the laptop, around 1860€ total including Wallapop buyer protection/shipping.

Before buying, I checked the Dell Service Tag, the original Dell configuration CSV, GPU-Z, 3DMark results, and a GPU-Z sensor log. Everything seems to match: RTX 4090 Laptop with 16 GB VRAM, QHD+ 240 Hz display, Core Ultra 9, 32 GB RAM, and 2 TB storage.

The main downsides are the expired warranty, cosmetic wear, and no original box. The laptop was originally bought in the US, but the US keyboard layout is not a downside for me. The charger is original; I may only need an EU power cable/adaptor.

Do you think 1800€ was a good price for this configuration, considering the condition and expired warranty? Anything specific I should test during the 48-hour buyer protection window?
