I found the hidden Advanced BIOS menu

I have been reverse-engineering the InsydeH2O firmware used by the Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ARH05 (82EY / IP3GAMING-15ARH).

The project started because this model exposes only a very limited BIOS interface, while common unlock sequences such as Fn+R+N do not appear to work reliably on this generation.

So far, I have:

  • extracted Lenovo’s official FCCN21WW Windows update package;
  • recovered the complete 16 MiB update ROM;
  • parsed its AMD PSP directory;
  • decompressed and executed the x86 reset-stage image;
  • traced its reset loop under QEMU;
  • extracted the Setup Utility and reconstructed its IFR;
  • confirmed the existence of a separate hidden Advanced form set;
  • recovered its GUID, variable stores, offsets and option inventory;
  • tested an experimental SREP runtime patch without permanently modifying the firmware.

The hidden menu contains controls for:

  • PCIe GPP and power policies;
  • SATA/AHCI and RAID configuration;
  • TPM and fTPM;
  • USB controllers and individual ports;
  • ACPI features;
  • SVM, SVM Lock and SMM Code Lock;
  • DASH and AMD remote KVM;
  • Above 4 GB MMIO.

One particularly interesting result is that the Advanced form set is not surrounded by a top-level IFR SuppressIf condition. My current hypothesis is that Lenovo/Insyde hides it through a visibility table or registration logic inside H2OFormBrowserDxe, rather than through a simple “unlock” setup variable.

I also recovered this form-set GUID:

C6D4769E-7F48-4D2A-98E9-87ADCCF35CCC

However, the runtime SREP patch has not exposed the menu yet. The laptop currently runs FCCN19WW, while the analyzed update is FCCN21WW, so differences in modules, patterns or variable semantics may explain the failure.

The repository documents the full process, hashes, extraction commands, QEMU findings, IFR inventory, experimental SREP configuration and suggested next steps:

https://github.com/root-hunter/lenovo_bios

Update: the hidden Advanced BIOS menu has now been successfully unlocked on the test machine using SREP. This is a runtime unlock and does not require flashing a modified BIOS image.

The method remains experimental and model/firmware-specific. Hidden settings can still cause a brick, boot failure or no-display condition, so do not change unfamiliar options without a verified SPI backup and recovery plan.

I would especially appreciate help from anyone who:

  • owns the same 15ARH05 / 82EY model and can reproduce the unlock;
  • can test it on other FCCN firmware versions;
  • has experience with InsydeH2O, SREP or H2OFormBrowserDxe;
  • can help validate and document the exposed settings safely.

Issues, corrections and reproducible test results are welcome.

Where can I get a gaming laptop under 90-100k?

The prices are fucked up in today's market for even the minimum specs I require.

Help me find where I could get a good deal,under a lakh atleast.

1)16-24 gb RAM

2)i5 or i7 but Ryzen 7 preferable(if it's a LOQ)

3)RTX 4050 atleast

4)decent to good TGP👉🏻👈🏻

I mean this might be too much to ask for in today's market price but if you know something that I do not which could help me,I'd appreciate it😭.

Which Legion would you choose?

Looking for opinions from people who have used these, especially regarding thermals, battery life, longevity, and portability. Most options are used, so value matters.

All the options are Core Ultra 9, OLED, and 32GB RAM.

Legion Pro 5i — RTX 5070 Ti

  • + Powerful, 12GB VRAM, relatively understated design
  • - Battery life, limited RGB, no biometrics, plastic body, overall feel and looks

Legion Pro 7i — RTX 5070 Ti

  • + Excellent performance and cooling
  • - Bulky, heavy, expensive, overall feel and looks

Legion 7i — RTX 5070 8GB

  • + Portable, great design/build, OLED, premium feel
  • - Battery life, 8GB VRAM

Legion 7i — RTX 5070 12GB

  • + Same portability/design I like, but with 12GB VRAM
  • - Rare and expensive — around A$3,999 new after discount

Everything except the 12GB 7i is used.

I really like the Legion 7i 12GB, but it's too expensive for my budget and has a lower performance ceiling than the Pro models.

My workload is gaming, 2D game development(looking forward to), mobile app development, VMs, and creative work, so I'm looking for the best balance of performance, portability, and longevity. Biometrics are also a definite plus for me and one of the things I like about the 7i.

For battery life, 4–6 hours of basic use is enough for me, so I don't need exceptional all-day battery life.

I'm also considering an OMEN Max 16 RTX 5080 if I can find one used. It has almost everything I want, except great portability, so I'm open to alternatives.

My budget is around A$3,500. Would you recommend buying one of the used options now, or waiting for Black Friday sales and buying new?

Which would you pick and why? Any ownership issues I should know about?

Choosing between a same spec 2023 and 2024 model. What is the better choice?

Currently looking to pick up a new laptop second hand, as my old G14 stopped working during a keyboard and palmrest replacement, and new/refurbrished/open box ones from stores are way too expensive for me. I have settled around getting something with an RTX 4060 as it seems to be the best balance of performance and price.

Currently I am in a dilemna between the 2023 and 2024 G14. I found both for the same spec (32GB DDR5 Ram, RTX 4060 w/ 8GB vram). The 2023 model is at $1280 CAD right now, but I could probably negotiate it down like $1000. Then there's the 2024 model for $1500. Based off my research, the 2023 model is technically slightly faster due to the higher TGP. Thermals seem to be kinda similar, though I think the 2023 one has some issues with thermal throttlitng. The 2024 one is much lighter, thinner, and has a beautiful design as well as a gorgeous 3K OLED display. Only real problem would be the soldered RAM preventing upgradability, but the deal already comes with 32GB ram so its not an issue for me.

The main dilemna is whether or not the build and the screen is worth $400 more? Is the 2023 worse in the long run (probably 5 more years of use) due to the thermals?

For context, I am a programmer who travels a lot, and I want to be able to play modern FPS games at at least 1080P medium-ish settings at 60-144Hz, and maybe some more intensive games at lower settings 60Hz, such as Stalker 2. I am fine with a lower resolution, but I think a high resolution display would be nice for programming on the go. Although if I go with the 2023 model, I could use the saved money to get a nice second monitor that I could rely on at home.

TDLR: 2023 vs 2024 G14 same spec, $400 difference

New Purchase - Review

Just purchased the G14 as they were on sale at Best Buy. This is last year’s model (2025) with a discrete RTX 5080. Purchase price was about $2,650. Full retail price is $3,170.

This is my first Windows Laptop and was purchased for more of a mobile workstation than a gaming PC, although I’ll probably game on it a little bit. This is why I particularly chose the 5080, for the 16GB VRAM and additional CUDA cores vs the 5070ti. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the 2026 models are going to have the discrete 5080 in a 14” footprint.

Initial impressions, I believe the sale price I purchased this at more accurately represents what the MSRP should be. It’s an excellent machine, but it’s not $3,170 excellent. At that price I would have purchased a true mobile workstation. Overall the build quality seems good. I’m not exactly sure what I could compare it to. My wife’s MacBook Pro perhaps, it seems about on par. It’s small, lightweight and built inside an aluminum chassis. A bonus is the back panel being fastened with easily accessible screws for removal and cleaning. The keyboard seems good. I’m not a fan of the light bar on the cover. It seems rather excessive or tacky. That’s just a personal opinion and nit-pick though.

Overall nothing about the build design/quality really “wows” me. I’d expect build quality to follow price. At a $3,170 msrp, I’d expect this kind of build quality. Its biggest bonus is the compact size. Asus pretty much nailed this configuration and managed to stuff a 5080 inside it. Although the build design didn’t really “wow” me, I don’t really have another machine to compare it to. It’s built well and doesn’t feel like Asus cut corners. It does not feel cheap.

Performance, overall it’s pretty good. It’s not my custom built desktop good, but it’s does the job as expected and precisely so. I did not or have not experienced the issues that seem to plague other owners.

Armoury Crate hasn’t given me any issues. It works perfectly fine. In silent, the G14 sips battery. I get about 6-8 hours of light usage in silent mode. Cloud computing software, applications like Codex, Claude, etc, can run for hours. Same goes for YouTube, a few Edge windows and email running in the background. I’ve experienced no screen stuttering or generalized weirdness. I did notice the G14 continuing to run when the lid is closed. This is not a G14 issue. This is a Windows 11 issue. This can be changed inside the windows power settings. It comes from the factory set to Sleep when the lid is closed. It should be set to hibernate. I made the correction.

Performance continued… In Performance mode, unplugged, my battery life was around 4-6 hours, probably more on the 4 hour side. The GPU wasn’t boosting and frequencies limited. MacBook Pro only wins here durning light use. Putting my wife’s M5 MacBook Pro under workloads like the G14 can handle, the MacBooks battery life drops drastically, takes longer and is constrained by lack of utility.

Turbo mode requires plug in. When benchmarked and the GPU pegged at 99%-100%, the power draw was 120w. What was strange is the wattage would spike higher, sometimes as high as 128w, but Armoury Crate is supposed to limit it to 120w. So that was a little strange. In Turbo mode the GPU was holding a sustained frequency boost under sustained workloads.

Thermals… During several benchmarks and the G14 placed on a flat surface, GPU temps never went over 74c. During sustained 99%-100% GPU utilization, it was never thermal throttling either. This was actually very impressive given it’s a 5080 in a very small chassis. CPU benchmarks created more heat soaking and higher thermals than the 5080. The AMD chip hit 80c occasionally, still within operating specs under sustained computing loads. Under light loads and idle, the AMD chip hung around 49c.

Fan noise in silent mode is… mostly silent. I don’t really notice them unless I hold the G14 up to my ear. In Performance and Turbo modes, naturally it depends on your compute load. Turbos baseline fan curve is already set higher. Normal browsing and use, you’ll hear them. Still not obnoxious. When the workloads increase, so does the fan noise. Under my testing, I’d say I managed to peg the RPMs, and let them run there for long computing tasks. They get “loud”, but they work extremely well. The RPM range is very stable and there’s no bearing noise, chatter, or annoyances. They sound like very smooth running turbofans. So they can get loud, but they still sound and operate like a premium cooling solution.

Extras… touch pad works well. It’s not loose or wiggling like others have reported. It’s responsive and large. If you’re used to MacBooks or Magic Keyboards, you’ll be familiar with the touch pad and OS integration. Speakers are loud and crisp. The OLED display is very good. It gets very bright. I didn’t not notice any reported issues with the displays refresh rate.

TLDR:

Bought a new G14, RTX 5080. It works well. I like it. I don’t like it at its current MSRP price at $3,170, but at 16% via Best Buy, it’s WAS worth the price and I would recommend it. Battery lasts more than long enough under different performance toggles/workload.

If you’re considering this over a MacBook Pro, the only thing the MacBook has over the G14 is battery life over light computing tasks. Apple silicon gulps battery just as much as premium windows machines when workloads are increased. The G14, or the 5080 variant, provides much more utility, flexibility and raw computing power.

I don’t seem to have the same reported issue with my particular unit that others have described having.

EDIT:

Sorry, I should have put the model and year in the title header.

ASUS Gaming V16 vs TUF Gaming A16 (RTX 4050) – Given Indian market prices & my use case, which one makes sense?

**Hey everyone,**
**Need some real, unfiltered advice from people actually using the ASUS Gaming V16 (or TUF A16)**

**The laptop pricing in India right now is insane. Outside of sales, TUF prices are sitting well past ₹1L+, while the V16 hover around ₹80k–₹85k (hoping BBD/festive sales bring the V16 down to \~₹65k–₹70k and TUF A16 to \~₹78k–₹82k).**

**I’m trying to figure out if spending that extra ₹12k–₹15k on the TUF A16 is actually worth it for my specific routine, or if the V16 is completely fine.**

**My Actual Requirements & Routine:**

**1. Primary Use: Daily office/business work (billing, spreadsheets, heavy browser tabs, docs).**

**2. Gaming: Purely casual single-player AAA story games (*****Ghost of Tsushima, RDR2, God of War, Spider-Man*****). Maybe 1–2 hours at night whenever I’m not dead tired from work. Not an eSports/competitive player.**

**3. Setup: I’ll be gaming with the laptop elevated on a stand and have G-Helper installed.**

**Questions for current V16 / TUF A16 owners:**

**Battery Life: How much actual screen-on-time are you getting on the V16 (63Wh) for basic office tasks/browsing on battery saver? Is the TUF A16 (90Wh + Ryzen) vastly better in real life?**

**Thermals: I saw reviews showing the V16 touching 90°C–95°C on stock settings. For those using G-Helper (CPU Boost disabled / efficient) + an elevated stand, do the temperatures genuinely stay under control (\~75°C) during 2-hour gaming sessions?**

**VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THIS**
**Single SSD Slot Hassle (V16): The V16 only having 1x M.2 slot is a bit concerning for the long term. Is cloning to a 1TB drive later down the road a headache, or does having the dual slots on the TUF make it worth the extra money right away?**⭐️⭐️⭐️

**65W TGP vs 115W+ & MUX: For someone playing casual AAA story games at 1080p/1200p with DLSS + Frame Gen, do you actually feel the lower TGP on the V16, or is the performance buttery smooth regardless?**

**Given the current market pricing in India, should I stretch my budget for the TUF A16, or just grab the V16 in the upcoming sales and save the cash?**
Appreciate any honest inputs!

I'm wondering what even went wrong.

A few days ago it used to show this.

"Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart"

Stop code: HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x20001)

It only lasted on the screen for a sec. Still after researching a bit idts that this is the issue.

I'm a student. All of my important files are on the laptop. I'm really really worried. Pls help

Get the g14 or something else

Hi guys I'm planning of getting a new gaming laptop and I'm not sure which one to get. I've never owed a gaming laptop before and the more reviews I watch the more it starts to seem like I'd get good performance either way and its a matter of preference. That said I think the asus rog zephyrus g14 is perfect for me. I really like the size (thats the main draw) and it has amazing features and good performance. The issue is I can only afford one with a 16gb ram and a 5060, which is completely fine but it's not very efficient. I'm not sure if I should get it either way or get something that would probably be cheaper and upgradable

Budget: $1500

Country: Nigeria

Use Case: Gaming amd coding

Send sos did my keyboard really broke my laptop??

Hello, I’ve had my Wooting 80HE for about half a month now, and I started encountering some issues after using it for almost a week. Suddenly, the keyboard became unrecognized by my laptop. My laptop is an ROG G16, so I assumed the issue was with my laptop. I took it to get fixed and deep-cleaned, but after the deep clean, my USB ports suddenly stopped working.

The worker told me that it was because the keyboard’s electrical current was too strong and that it probably damaged all of my USB ports. I was really confused because I only ever used my keyboard with the USB-C port, while my mouse was connected to the USB-A port. The USB ports only stopped working after the deep clean, so I’m confused about what could have caused this.

Aside from that, the keyboard also seems to only work for a short while on other devices and laptops before it stops functioning. It would light up and work for a few minutes, then suddenly stop lighting up altogether.

I’m getting really concerned and wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue or knows what might be causing this?
