Gulf Shores Beach questions

I'm going to be at Gulf Shores Beach in a week. I've searched this sub for restaurant suggestions. It seems like most of the suggestions are in Orange Beach or other areas. What about the restaurants around W Beach Blvd? Specifically The Hangout, Sea & Suds, or Bahama Bobs? Any good? Or am I better off driving somewhere?

Also, We're praying for good weather, but what are some suggestions for things to do if it rains? I read the GulfShores web page about rainy day activities, but I'm curious what some actual humans think are the best choices. I'll be with my two teenagers so drinking in a bar isn't an option.

Rental car vs Uber/Lyft

I’ve been to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach a handful of times, but we’ve always driven. We’re looking at flying for a quick weekend trip at the end of summer and trying to figure out what would be most cost effective for transportation (rent a car vs uber). I like the idea of having our own car ready to go, but didn’t know how easy it was to get to and from the airport to a rental car place.

Metal detecting

Are people metal detecting on the beach frowned on? We visit every year and I was thinking about bringing my metal detector on this upcoming trip. I have seen a couple of people using their detectors over the years but not many at all. Didn't know if this was kind of frowned on or what? Thanks

What happened?

After fireworks tonight, my family and I walked past a cross on the dune in gulf shores, just off w tenth st, behind the condos there.
I was wondering what the story was behind it?

I lost my brother in a park and now anytime I see a potential memorial, I wonder about who it was for.

Restaurants

Orange beach /gulf shores. Mom and kids 8 and 10. We will be going eat out one night ,they would be into a fried shrimp or hamburger type place. Any suggestions? Wouldn’t matter if it’s a busy place with long wait or a best kept secret hole in the wall type experience. I’ve heard hangout for activity during wait but not so much food. I read DOCS for shrimp

Beautiful trees

Simply put I’m a tourist, didn’t feel like bringing any with me for vacation. Anybody know any locals where I can maybe grab a bouquet for my visit? I understand what I’m asking, don’t comment. Shoot me a PM

The Beach Club Resort

We are vacationing in October and have been looking at The Beach Club. I was trying to see if any of the pools were walk in pools, we have small children and that type of pool would be better for us. Looking for any recommendations on what tower to stay at (if the pools are walk in), and just any pros/cons of staying at The Beach Club.
TIA 😊

Beach and Day Ideas

Hi I’m 23M and I’m going to gulf shores Friday with a friend who I met on Reddit 24F. We’re leaving Montgomery as soon as we wake up and heading to gulf shores. Which part is good to go on the beach for Friday? Also what other ideas are there to do? We’ll be leaving around 7-8 or earlier possibly and my plan was to bring a 12 pack of beer and hang at the beach all day LOL.

The Beli

Just wanted to put this out there. The beli used to be in gulf shores and Anna Beth Ryan moved it to OBA. She is insane. She bit a military veteran on his face bc he asked her to move her car. Been to court. She is insane. Do not support the Beli.

Planning day trip to Orange Beach tomorrow!

I’ve been waiting for a day off when the water conditions are good for snorkeling, and tomorrow looks like the forecast is good! I’m planning to park at Alabama Point. Is the snorkeling area pretty clearly marked?

Handicapped Section at the Wharf

I use a cane, but not a wheel chair. Will there be chairs for me and my caregiver in the handicapped section?

Long Post- Seeking Help to protect a child

Has anyone else experienced a family court returning custody or visitation to a parent despite documented admissions of substance abuse and domestic violence or assault?

I'm trying to stay vague for privacy reasons, but I'm involved in a custody case in the Southeast where I have been the primary parent for years. The other parent has had a history of inconsistent involvement, missed parenting time, and significant conflict.

Recently, despite what I believed was substantial evidence, including admissions related to substance use and violence, the court allowed the other parent to regain custody/visitation. I am represented by an attorney, but I left court feeling shocked and honestly unsure of what else I can do to protect my child.

I'm not looking to bash the judge or the other parent. I'm trying to understand:

  • Has anyone had a similar experience?
  • What evidence ended up making a difference in your case?
  • Did anyone successfully appeal or obtain a modification after a decision like this?
  • Are there other avenues I should be discussing with my attorney, such as emergency motions, additional evaluations, or other forms of relief?
  • How did you cope with feeling like the system failed to protect your child?

I understand that courts often try to preserve parent-child relationships, but I'm struggling to understand how serious safety concerns can be weighed and still result in this outcome.

I'm looking for practical advice from people who have actually been through this. Thank you.

First time visiting - family vacation

We are doing our first beach family vacation here. Our kids are 8,9 and 13. Might be a dumb question, but do people let there kids go into the water without lifejackets or should they be worn at all times? Any other advice that anyone has would be appreciated!

Seasonal Work

Sorry for my English, it’s not my first language. A few years back my cousin got a seasonal job working at a diner here where they covered his housing. I was thinking about doing the same next summer, but haven’t heard anything. Does anyone know if these jobs are still possible? Is there any place to meet other people working abroad in the area?
