HIV AND ORAL

Hey guys. I just had one quick question. I am a male and gave oral to another guy it was just a random hookup. I’m unsure of the guy’s HIV STATUS and I also have had no symptoms.

Is it possible to get HIV through giving oral. He didn’t ejaculate in my mouth but I felt pre cum.

Any advice would be appreciated thank you.

Condom broke during vaginal sex, should I go on Prep?

The condom broke when I was having sex with a fuck buddy, this was probably the fifth time we’ve hooked up. I always use condoms with partners, but I know he doesn’t, he’s always complaining about them, and he’s way more promiscuous and regularly does group sex. It was towards the end of sex that it broke, he continued for maybe 10-20 seconds then took his dick out and came.

The last time he got tested was last year. He has another regular female partner who he goes raw with and she gets tested every 2-3 months and she says she’s fine.

I asked him if he could go get STD tested tomorrow to ease my mind, but he thinks it’s unnecessary and won’t. I read the chances of HIV transmission through vaginal sex is extremely low and the condom was only broken for a short time. And most likely he doesn’t even have it. But it’s making me really paranoid. Should I go to the doctor and go on Prep tomorrow to prevent possible HIV infection? I don’t know if thats overkill, since there’s lots of side effects to Prep as well :/. Is it statistically low enough that I can just take my chances with this?

Tell me about your HIV experience

We have an assignment about global health and globalization, and our group thought that sexually transmitted diseases are a good topic. But we can't go around asking people if they had one, so I wanted to try our luck here.

How was your experience with STDs? How were you treated? Perceived?

Why do I feel so alone

I (27NB) was diagnosed with HIV a little over 8 or 9 years ago and have been completely undetectable since I found out and while I am terrified to tell potential partners I always do so not to make them run away but a just in case something were to happen to me like I can't get my medications or something. But every time I do regardless of how much we like each other or even if we've said the big "L" word they always pull away and eventually leave. Is it so hard to ask for something that we still deserve despite what I have? Does anyone else know my pain? Or am I alone in this as I am in everything else? I just want to be loved and not pitied, I don't want to be treated like I have the plague or I'm untouchable, I personally don't feel human anymore because of this. And despite hundreds of people like me why do I feel so alone?

Poz partner

Hi everyone!

I’m currently in a relationship and we’ve been together going on 3 years. When we first met we had unprotected sex our first time as I was on prep and my partner said they were on it too. Once we established a monogamous relationship I stopped taking prep (maybe like 6 months after we met). I asked a few times if they still took their prep (as it was mailed to them) and they said no since we are monogamous.

Fast forward to a few months ago I discovered a pill that you have to take once a day. My immediate thought was that they’re still taking prep but it wasn’t the popular names like discovy. After a Google search I found out that it was ART pill for HIV+.

I usually do my annual bloodwork and get tested and my results have been negative. I got tested like a month after discovering and got on Yeztugo. I haven’t had any symptoms of hiv either and probably only been sick 2 times since we’ve met.

Now, my question is how do I bring it up to them? Or should I not mention it?

I know it can be a sensitive topic but I think they should have disclosed that information to me especially since we are in a relationship. I feel betrayed because regardless of hiv status that is someone I love dearly and being hiv+ isn’t a deal breaker.

How should I deal with this? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP ❤️

Open discussion

I was diagnosed with HIV about two months ago. Based on my labs and timeline, I think I had been living with it for around five months before I found out. My initial viral load was only about 2,000 copies/mL, and my CD4 count was almost 800. I started Biktarvy about a week after my diagnosis and on my 30 day follow up appointment my results said <20 not detected and my cd4 was 990.

Physically, I’m doing well and I’m grateful for how effective treatment has been. Mentally, though, I’m struggling with the idea of disclosure. Part of me wants to keep my status private as long as I’m taking my medication, staying undetectable, and making sure no one is ever put at risk.

What I’ve been wrestling with is that it almost feels like I’ve been pushed back into the closet. Before this, I never felt like I had to explain or disclose something so personal to potential partners. Now it feels like there’s another layer of myself that I’m expected to reveal, and that’s been hard to process.

Has anyone else felt this way? How did you come to terms with disclosure, and did it get easier over time?

Lab work/doctor visits frequency?

I was diagnosed December, 2025 (I was infected in late August) Currently on Dovato

Before treatment:
Viral load 28,100
Cd4: 930

Currently:
Viral load: not detected
Cd4: 1268
Cd4/CD8 1.18

My ID says after this visit to have 6 months visit, but since I’m stable at the moment - is it reasonable to push for 12 months visit/bloodwork? Anyone space out their visit more than the standard 6 months?

One of those nights

I started taking to a guy from before I was diagnosed.

We had an amazing time together, he moved, he wants me to go visit, and it made me spiral into who I became positive from (sorry if it’s not the correct way of saying it, it’s only been 5 months), because he mentioned wanting to do BB with me.

For context, we both had our tests, we both trusted each other and at the moment decided to do it BB, as we had both being tested recently and had not done it with anyone else unprotected.

Anyways, point is, it got me thinking again about who it was… it’s been five months that this didn’t cross my mind, I stopped that after the first week because I knew it was not healthy.

I found myself checking my list (I know, but I was “paranoid” even from before, hence why I have it) and the dates and people just don’t add up. I asked all my previous hookups, I used protections, the time I didn’t was so long ago and I got tested after those (expecting the time), so those are discarded.. it doesn’t make sense.

And I don’t think I got it from any other way like syringe or something because is even less likely… I just feel like this right now 🫠

I’m in need of advice

Hey guys. Hope y’all are good

I need some advice. I’ve been hiv pos since Oct 2024, and it’s been a horrible time since but overtime I’ve been trying to get my spark back and regain control and I guess a sense of purpose. Since being pos I haven’t entertained any love interests ever since given that I was pos and felt unlovable and viral. This year I decided to try, about 2 months ago I met this woman, my now girlfriend, who was just an acquaintance at the time as overtime we were just friends and had serious chemistry with one another while doing PLT’s for our final year. Okay so for context, before we even had our first kiss, we’d constantly talk, hang out, and have conversations where we’d talk about love. I had floated the question of whether she’d be with someone with an std like hiv and she said that would be her worst nightmare and that she wouldn’t be strong enough to be with someone living with hiv as she would constantly live in fear of catching the disease. I understood her opinion and promised myself that I wouldn’t take anything further than just a platonic relationship with her.

Okay so about a week and a half ago we were hanging out just the two of us, to celebrate her bday. Vibes were nice, and there was some serious sexual tension between us in that moment to the point where we ended up having our first kiss which was amazing and while I was high from our kiss I asked her to be my girlfriend to which she agreed. After hanging out, it hit me like a flood as to why did I break that boundary of our platonic relationship but I was still very much into her and convinced myself that I can tell her of my status and that she’d accept me for being pos and not end things. Okay cool, so about like 5-6 days ago. I had been planning on telling her before anything sexual happened between us and idk I was planning for the perfect time which obviously never happens in life. Alright, so we ended up drinking after lectures at her place that day and I was too drunk to drive home so she invited me to spend the night at her place. To which I told myself that I can restrain myself and not do anything I wouldn’t want someone to do to me because the person who infected me lied to me about their status whilst knowing they’re positive and that was my story. So that night, we ended up cuddling in bed, and things got a bit too heated to the point where I started finger painting her. I lost my mind for that bit to where I eventually came back to reality when I remembered I’m pos and that I’m doing exactly what I promised myself I wouldn’t do. I immediately stopped and she asked me to continue and I told her I couldn’t and that we should just cuddle, of which we did. After that night, I woke up in the morning went home and was saddled with guilt and felt like such a monster that I violated her and that I did such a nasty thing to her and performing something so intimate and sexual with her without her having full disclosure and knowledge of me being pos. Since then she got the the flu, to which I freaked out thinking I infected her though I know that I’m adherent and undetectable but the fear will always be with me. Just for her to go to the doctor and actually have the flu, she’s still coming down from the flu but these past few days have been horrible as I know and have to tell her that I’m pos because I can’t be that man who keeps this a secret and fall into a deeper hole of guilt and shame and continue a sexual relationship with her without her knowing everything. I know I’m messed up and that I have been avoiding going to her place as she has invited me to come cuddle with her in bed to which I told her that I’m waiting for her to feel better so I can take her to a park and that’s where I will break the news to her that I’m pos. I know she’ll hate me, possibly never talk to me again because of my lies and that the foundation of our relationship is built on a lie that I’m healthy but I’m actually living with a std which will break the trust between us and make her question what else I’ve been keeping a secret to which this is the only thing I’ve struggled to tell her. I don’t know what to do. I feel scared to tell her but I know I have to because i really like her and want to try a relationship with someone who can maybe accept me with my std but on the other end I don’t know whether I should just end things without disclosing because I’d be saving her the anger, hate, and her possibly being traumatised from what I’ve done to her. Please I need some advice or just what you would do if faced with this situation.

Prep

If I was exposed to HIV and tested negative about a month later, does that mean taking Prep is not doing much for me? I was prescribed to take it for a month and test next month and in 3 months. Since I tested negative that far out I’m wondering if I have a high chance of staying negative since I’m on prep too or is it kinda useless for me bc the exposure was a month ago? The person that exposed me to HIV was told by the drs that he’s high risk, so that gives me anxiety on what my next 2 test results will say

Have you dated or made new friends after becoming HIV-positive? How did it go?

Has anyone here made new friends or started dating after being diagnosed with HIV? Did you tell them about your HIV status? If not, what made you decide not to? If you did, how did they react?

Hey i dont know if this is the right sub for asking but im gonna try.

I live in a small subburb in sweden and i dont know if HIV is big here.

But i had a childhood friend who became criminal and a drug user. Hes very weird and up all the time, fighting and gets to prison, when i see him.

I see him maybe once a year but we only say hey how are you and things like that. I feel uncontalbe around him.

But something happend like 4 months ago i got poked but someting when we shaked hands in my finger. Ive did a HIV test after a week. But asumed i was negative becuase they didnt call back. But now its 4 months later and i feel very weird. 1. No apetit 2. Low in mood. 3. Bruises around my arm and leg. 4. Hairloss 5. Loss in weight. Dizziness.

Im verry afraid of doin a test again abd hope its nothing.

Should i do a test just becuase?

Work colleague also takes Biktarvy

So, basically I’m an intern at a company. Since I arrived I saw that the guy next to my desk was… too well put together, and it gave me the gay vibes.

I didn’t think much of it, every day he takes a pill at lunch, I think to protect his stomach or idk. The thing is, today when he opened his drawer I had my leg in the way so I turned to see and took my leg off, he opened the drawer, got his pill and closed it, but it gave me enough time to recognize the Biktarvy bottle, same medication I use, a medication that is only used to treat HIV, so now I wonder.

Would it be rude if I ask him about it? I don’t know any other person that has HIV in my circle, knowing someone could be nice.

But I also don’t want to be unprofessional.

Diagnosed HIV Positive 4 Days Ago — My Mother's Story Gives Me Hope

Hello everyone,

I'm 40 years old, living in Germany, single, and I don't have any children yet.

Four days ago, after a routine check-up (anonymous), I was diagnosed as HIV positive. I don't have any symptoms, but I'm still in shock and trying to process everything. Throughout my life, I've had more sexual relationships with men than with women. I had unprotected sex only a few times.

At the moment, I've decided not to tell anyone about my diagnosis. I simply don't want to face additional rejection. My biggest concern right now is whether I'll ever get married or have children, because I imagine it won't be easy to find someone I can truly trust.

My greatest fear is that someone might disclose my status without my consent. Right now, I don't think I could handle other people knowing. Sometimes I even think about staying single for the rest of my life just to protect my peace of mind.

I've always wanted to have children, and that wish feels stronger than ever now. People often ask me, "Why aren't you married? Why don't you have kids? You're a handsome man." Those questions hit differently today.

Can anyone share their experience of having children while living with HIV and being undetectable? Is it possible to have a healthy family without major difficulties?

There is another reason I wanted to write this post.

Last year, I found out that my mother has been living with HIV for more than 40 years. She was diagnosed in 1985. At that time, the stigma was overwhelming, so she kept her diagnosis almost entirely to herself to protect our family. Only a few very close and trustworthy friends knew about it because they prayed together.

She lived from 1985 until 1999—14 years—without symptoms and she didn't has access to effective treatment. Can you imagine carrying that fear for so many years while watching other people die from AIDS? Thank God she finally received effective medication in 1999. She has been undetectable since around 2000 and has lived a normal, healthy life ever since.

I have enormous respect for her. She has an incredibly strong faith and has never lost hope. She continues to live her life with gratitude and courage.

I know this diagnosis isn't easy for any of us. I'm only four days into this journey myself, but I already have proof in my own family that HIV is not the end of life. My mother is living evidence that there is hope.

So, to anyone who has just been diagnosed or is struggling: don't give up. Keep moving forward. Take your medication, look after yourself, and don't let fear define your future. Much of the fear comes from the stigma that still exists in society—not from the virus itself. We deserve to live, to love, and to dream just like anyone else.

For now, I won't tell my mother or father about my diagnosis because one of my brothers is already dealing with serious health issues, and I don't want to add more worry to the family.

Thank you for reading. I wish strength, health, and peace to everyone here. We are not alone!
