Lost HSBC credit card, replacement came with same number and CVV. Is this safe?
Reference to my previous post
I lost my HSBC credit card while travelling few days back. As soon as I noticed, I immediately turned off all services from the HSBC app.
After that, I even got an SMS saying one transaction was declined due to wrong PIN entry, so definitely someone found the card and tried using it.
Now HSBC sent me a replacement card, but surprisingly the card number is exactly same and even the CVV is same. Only expiry date changed.
I am confused now. If I activate this new card and enable tap/payments again, will the old lost card also start working since both have same details?
I thought replacement cards usually come with completely new number and CVV if the old card is lost. Especially in my case where somebody already tried using it.
Has anyone faced this with HSBC India before? Should I ask them again for a totally fresh card with new number?
