With this components crisis, I was wondering what the future of the handhelds will be.
I mean, they could remain as a very niche market, but there is also a big probability that asus, lenovo or valve stop manufacturing their respective handhelds since the average user can't afford 1.5k+ devices.

Hey Guys,
I'm planning to buy my first legion go and I am wondering if it is worth it buying it now or just wait for Christmas discount or wait for legion go 3.
Please help me to decide.
Thanks!!
Hello, i have a question i bought a friend a legion go s that came to me completely destroyed, when and if amazon replaces it with a refund or gift card replacement for the 16 gig legion go s model shall i get another or would you recommend the the asus xbox rog ally or the msi claw 24 gig Z2E? those are what i am considering to get as a late birthday present for a friend who is sick and ill and always games in bed, or shall i wait for christmas and try to pick up something from bestbuy or costco in person?
I always have liked how vibrant the switch one and OLED joy-cons were and wanted to change up the look of my switch 2, I don’t use it a lot but I love tinkering and so me and my gf shell swapped a joy-con each (from ExtremeRate). The price was about £18.99 for the two joy-con sets and it took us about an hour but well worth it!
Has anyone here been using the ROG Ally X (not the Xbox version) with SteamOS? Where I live, a used Ally X is currently only about $50 more expensive than a used Steam Deck OLED, so I’m seriously considering making the switch.
What I’m mainly looking for is a handheld with reliable sleep/resume, good performance, and decent battery life. My current/most-played games include:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Palworld
- Star Wars Battlefront II
- Stardew Valley
- Helldivers 1
If it can also run Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 reasonably well, that would be a huge bonus.
For the AAA games, I’d be happy with around 45 FPS at 720p/800p, Medium settings, without LSFG/frame generation. I’m not looking to max everything out — I’d rather have consistent performance and at least ~2.5 hours of actual gaming battery life.
I know the Steam Deck OLED is still better in terms of ergonomics and display quality, so those aren't really the reasons I’m considering the Ally X.
Given these priorities, would switching to an Ally X running SteamOS be a meaningful upgrade, or would I end up disappointed because of the compromises?
For anyone who has used both, I’d especially appreciate your thoughts on:
Sleep/resume reliability
Real-world battery life
Fan noise at different TDPs
D-pad quality (on SD it’s terrible when I tried diagonally)
Performance in the games I mentioned
Whether the extra performance is actually noticeable compared to the Steam Deck OLED
Would you make the switch in my situation?
I've been using Android handhelds for the last few years, and I've started to understand why people who haven't used them tend to dismiss them.
The usual comparisons are "just get a Steam Deck" or "just use your phone," but I think Android handhelds occupy a different space.
I put together a video explaining why I think the category is misunderstood. Curious where you guys land on this.
I'm computer illiterate lol. It's my first retro handheld... I really really really wanna play "Simpsons Hit and Run."
Hey, I’m on the look out for a handheld PC but I’m slowly loosing my marbles with it all 😅 I don’t really know much about them but I’ve spent the last 3 years debating to get one or not and I’ve finally decided to do it. I’ve been looking at the lego2 and the msi claw a8. Any recommendations or suggestions on different ones would be great! I’m looking to play AAA games on it mostly alongside simulator games.
I don’t want something that’s real laggy or glitchy (I know I’ll have to tweak settings etc) something with good fps and smoothness.
If I didn’t need it to be portable I would get a pc instead.
I already have a ps5 & Nintendo switch 2.
I don’t want any cloud streaming devices either.
Also sorry for the pickiness 🫣😅
Edit: I’m from the uk so we don’t have a best buy but we do have a company called curry’s
I currently have the ayaneo konkr pocket 8 elite 24 gb 1 tb but I only got it since it was the only one I could get with those specs I’m hoping there is something that hasn’t come up on my time line that’s in the works. I understand if it’s not possible with how hard it is to get ram and storage just wanna know if there is even a whisper of a similar powerful handheld with a clamshell especially since ayaneo didn’t even have a clamshell 8 elite device tho I remember there being one
Hello All so i decided to get a birthday present for a close friend, anyways i ordered and i shipped it back, this is what came in the box, legion go s, 16 gigs of ram, windows 11, what we got is a unworking birthday present, well it got shipped back within the hour as i contacted amazon on it, so its been shipped back, but i guess i will try to get a asus rog xbox ally maybe next month for there late birthday, but i wanted to share this with you all, so here it is.
Hey everyone!
Here’s a short summary of my situation.
Because of my lifestyle and work, I move around a lot, realistically, I change locations almost every year. Moving all my belongings from one place to another is often extremely difficult(usually different countries), so I usually end up starting over in a new apartment with new furniture, a new TV, a new console, etc.
As you can imagine, this gets very expensive, and I feel like I’m constantly losing money by having to buy the same things again.
On top of that, my job involves a lot of travelling, so I’d really like to have a handheld that I can take with me on long trips.
That’s why I came up with the idea of having a handheld that I can use with a dock, a portable projector, and a controller, essentially turning it into a traditional living-room console when I’m at home.
So the idea would be:
At home dock it, connect it to the projector and controller, and enjoy it like a regular console.
When travelling simply pick it up from the dock and take it with me.
This way, I’d only need one gaming device instead of buying a new console and TV setup every time I move. I already have the xiaomi l1 pro projector, which is relatively easy to transport.
So, which handheld would be the best choice for my needs?
The games I’m interested in are things like Fallout 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, Stardew Valley, Vampire survivor, maybe Palworld, and some older AAA titles such as the Spider-Man games. Nothing extremely demanding, but since I’ve been a PC gamer my whole life, I’d ideally like to get at least around 60 fpswhenever possible.
What would you recommend for this kind of setup?
I am thinking between steamdeck oled, since it seems like it is better for handheld gaming and travelling, and the rog xbox alloy x, since it is more powerful and would act better as a traditional console.. since the price surge they are basically the same price now.
I would love to hear your opinion, maybe some experiences if somebody is in the same situation..
Price is not a factor, I need to choose 1 rn.

So I’m pretty new to handhelds I don’t know a ton about them. But I would like to do emulation with a handheld I’m not sure this is the right place to ask but I will anyways. Mainly I want to be able to play on a tv and use an external controller. As for games or handhelds to emulate I’d mainly want psp,ps vita,gba,gbc,3ds and that’s it. I would like maybe Nintendo 64,GameCube,ps1 but it would probably need to be more expensive (I assume). But mainly just want to play PlayStation psp and ps vita and Nintendo gameboy, gameboy color,Nintendo 3ds. I’d imagine it would run me a pretty penny but what handheld would be good for this kind of stuff? I know there are emulation handhelds that have android but are handhelds with windows better? I guess for budget I’d put like $100-$300. I would also like to say I am doing my own research but any and all help would be appreciated
I’m looking for a good handheld console, like the ASUS ROG Ally X or the Steam Deck, to play gacha games primarily, such as Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves. However, I’m not sure which one would run both titles smoothly without lagging during intense combat and that it can run them smoothly, without necessarily needing a frame rate above 60 fps.
I have an Steam Deck Oled, and I really like it, but lately I’m considering getting the Odin 2 portal due to weight, but I like the SD so much that I don’t know if it makes sense despite being heavier. Is there room for both of them?
I’ve been playing almost everything via streaming from my PC. Thoughts?
