Oh good we're at the 'genociding infants' phase :)

It involves the same drill as Terminid underground hatcheries so we are, once again, nuking a bunch of babies. I mean, we think the Crushers might be children so it's all justified, right?

EDIT: I do find it quite funny that every comment under this post is some flavor of either "they deserve it/we're justified" and "we were already doing this".

EDIT EDIT: And a frankly surprising (or maybe unsurprising) amount of Anakin Skywalker memes.

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Okay I need some of you guys to back up a bit, I'm seeing a disturbing amount of people doing some unironic rationalization here, and it's becoming clear some of you are taking the roleplay a step too far.

Ahhh yes, the elite team of 18. The team of 18 that is elite. The team that is elite that has always had 18 members. That team.

When I say that killing civilians is wrong and a Super Earth's defender starts using irl examples to prove me wrong

Story time!!

I was on the main sub and under one of those post "we're all evil" one person talks about when we bombed the humanitarian corridors on cyberstan.

The OP answer that they were workers supporting the war effort (literally SE propaganda in game) and so it was justified.

A little shocked and a bit horrified I replied that you don't kill civilians, not even irl.

OP decides to use as a proof that I'm wrong Operation Gomorrah from WW2 when the allied forces, Canada was one of them, bombed Hamburg in Germany and basically since Canada is one of the good guy it's okay that they killed 34k civilians because they're the good guys!!

Sometimes I forget how many straight up fascist we have in this community.

The other comments are as bad obviously.

The real reason "humans bad" debates don't go anywhere

The debates don't work because most people aren't convinced/converted by facts and logical debate. Their minds change when evil impacts them personally, when they are personally confronted with tasks that overwhelm their sense of morality, etc. Even in real life, people only start questioning the fascism they've supported when it starts fucking them over PERSONALLY. For example, no amount of statistical evidence, sociological studies, or historical accounts will change an American conservative's mind. Raise the gas prices though, and you see some of their neurons begin to fire - because it eats away at the comfortable illusion of strength and psychological security that underpins their morality. Helldivers 2 is a great demonstration of this.

The helldivers 2 player actually lives a very psychologically comfortable life. He "owns" a super destroyer, it gives him a very strong feeling of security and power. He doesn't actually die, he gets an unlimited supply of soldiers to control and just needs to worry about not pushing the "reinforcement budget" in any particular mission. Mentally he's like a successful small business owner trying to turn a profit to buy fancy toys. He dives into "hell" sees all the evil things enemies do, and comes back up to his ship, that is always well maintained, shiny, he even has a ship "wifey" positioned right at the "door" he enters from, offering him compliments when he "gets home". These cues are extremely powerful, and convince one that super earth is successful and strong - which is subconsciously proof of righteousness to a mind driven by capitalist realism.

As long as Super Earth can maintain the illusion that humanity is winning and that super earth is able to maintain the standard of life and sense of security and superiority that a super destroyer gives players, i guarantee you there will always be a large number of people who think SE is good. Their worldview is not based on moral arguments, it is based on the idea that their civilization is the strongest, provides security and civilization, while the ugly enemies root around in the "hell" below with their shitty guerrilla tactics, doing their ugly crimes to our sweet, innocent, righteous civilians, which we get to witness all the time. On the flipside we arguably see only combatants and never get to kill civilians ourselves (debatable I know but you get the point).

The aesthetic is everything, basically.

Am I the Only One Who Doesn't Like Any of the Helldivers 2 Factions?

Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions for the people here. I don't really play Helldivers 2 that much (I only have about 45 hours in the game). I really like HFY sci-fi and, in general, the idea of "humanity first" in sci-fi. That's what initially got me interested in Helldivers 2. The idea of a game where you can fight alongside your friends for humanity and "democracy" and establish human supremacy seemed interesting to me, even though I could tell from the trailer and the overall atmosphere that it was probably satire.

When I started playing and getting deeper into the lore, I realized that SE is just a fucking awful faction. There isn't even really any moral gray area here. It's pretty obvious that all the factions are bad, but SE is just the absolute bottom of the barrel. RP is fairly important to me in games, and I have absolutely no desire to play as SE because, ironically enough, they are basically an entirely anti-humanity faction. They literally kill their own people and have caused more harm to their own population than anyone else.

On the other hand, I don't really have any sympathy for the other factions either, except maybe the bugs. The Cyborgs absolutely annoy me and I have zero sympathy for them whatsoever (and no, it's not because they're supposedly socialist. They were never actually socialist, if I remember correctly, and in any case, that's never how I've viewed them). I feel similarly about the Illuminate. I understand that they're basically taking revenge on SE, but that doesn't make me support them or even feel sympathy for them. So I don't particularly like them either.

So in the end, I find myself not liking any of the factions at all. They're all pretty terrible, especially SE, which somehow manages to sink to an entirely new low. What especially puts me off are the people who unironically support SE and make these fucking unfunny jokes and spam things like "face the wall." So my question is: am I the only one who has run into this problem, or are there other people who feel the same way?

(Just to clarify, if you like any of these factions, I absolutely don't mean to offend you. This is purely my personal opinion, and I hope we can keep the discussion civil. Thank you.)

I feel like the game is very slowly losing out to no longer being actually a satire anymore

As someone who is in the Warhammer community, I’ve noticed this there too. With the new introduction of the new Illuminate Enemies, I feel like the game is slowly trying to push the idea that, no, the Squi’th are not sympathetic or at least not justified in their anger. Even if they were unrighteously slaughtered and had their worlds ripped apart for trying to ally with Super Earth. With all the body horror and horrific actions they take, it feels like more and mroe they are unironically pushing the idea that all of the squi’th are now pure evil. Which kinda defeats the whole point of their genocide being evil and horrific. As someone else said in a comment, the game I feel doesn’t focus enough on what we have done to the other factions, and instead focuses on what we do to our own citizens, and even then we only really HEAR about it, not actually see it. It feels less like they actually care about the idea of this being a satrie, and just want cool enemies to fight. Which is fine, but it also makes it extremely difficult to take the satire as a satire when it actively shows the civilians of our side being slaughtered and mutated into horrorific monsters, which makes it hard for many to see the Illuminate as anything but monsters.

Every single Steam page update being written by AI recently is starting to wear on me...

>If you are already sore from the democratic path to 150, take a breath before you panic, this update comes with some genuinely great news for anyone who's already put in the hours.

>Let's be honest about what we're looking at here: Reaching level 150 already takes many, many hours of dedicated sessions… Several hundreds of missions across dozens of Galactic War campaigns. Reaching level 300 will take more than double that. This isn't a small bump; it's a genuine second act for anyone chasing the next rank.

> Level 300 is a marathon–not a sprint–designed to let you continue to demonstrate to your fellow Helldivers your skill and commitment to fighting for Super Earth.

>So if you've been running Super Helldive missions "for nothing" since hitting 150, surprise, you've actually been quietly stacking up levels 151, 152, 153, and beyond. You just haven't seen the number tick over yet.

>New veteran players (already at 150): Log in after the patch and watch your level jump based on banked XP. Keep playing normally in the meantime, every dive counts💪.

I'm tired boss. And it's cringe as fuck. How hard is it to write a fucking steam event or patch notes are we adults here?

Helldivers 2 has ruined my life.

Helldivers 2 has ruined my life. About three years ago, my life was perfect. I had a teenage son, was happily married to a beautiful woman and her boyfriend spoils me a lot, had a great paying job as an architect and a beautiful house. But then, I discovered Helldivers 2. Holy crap, I was addicted. Every day, I woke up at 7 A.M. and played my daily Dives. The game simply fascinated me. At first, my wife thought it was cute. However, after about a year, I made a discovery that changed my life for the worst. I discovered that upholding democracy against the tyranny of our xenophobic, fascist, and radical enemies were becoming my no. 1 Goal in life.

From that point, my life started going downhill. At work, the only thing I did was play Hd2. My manager called me in to talk to me, but I kept playing hd2 the entire time. The manager fired me later that day. When my wife learned about it, she started crying and said that she wanted a divorce. At the court, all I did was play hd2 while my wife and son were sobbing. She got full custody, and I was left alone.

Now, I live off unemployment checks in a tiny apartment. All day I don't eat or go outside, and I play hd2. When I don't play it, I struggle to breathe and I get dizzy. As of writing this, I feel like I'm about to die. I need to get back to hd2. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT, AREOWHEAD!!
