The Perth Comic Arts Festival 2026 will once again be held this weekend in the State Library
Hi everyone, the Perth Comic Arts Festival will be held this weekend in the State Library of WA. Many local comic book creators from WA and interstate will be taking part, it's always a lot of fun and the festival gets bigger each year. This year is for sure set to be the largest PCAF event. There'll even be some creators from overseas attending.
If you're interested in comic book theory, industry knowledge, and comic book creation there will be some lectures & workshops being held on Saturday the 25th of July which is the Academy Day.
If you want to purchase locally made comic books, the Market Day will be on Sunday the 26th of July.
Illustration I made after watching Miami Vice (2006)
A local theatre was holding a screening of Miami Vice (2006) last Friday. I gave it a watch since I’ve loved a lot of Michael Mann’s films (Heat, Collateral, Thief). I don’t know anything about the original show, but I did end up enjoying the movie despite the fact that there are some issues with it. Still can’t stop thinking about the film and its style.
Samart discusses his mentality during a fight and how he deals with high pressure situations.
Samart says he essentially treats all fights like it would be another sparring session rather than a proper fight. The most important thing for Samart was to remain composed even if he was hurt or exhausted. It’s a quintessentially Muay Femur way of approaching fighting and you can see this in his fights. Even the ones where he lost badly (Dieselnoi & Wangchannoi), he tries to keep this air of invincibility and nonchalance.
I wish he’d elaborate more on what he’d do when things don’t go his way. In the clip he mentions that by round 3 he takes a different approach and tries to land every weapon. I’m assuming he tries to be more aggressive, but I’d really like to know how he’d do it. More pressure?
Samart talks about how he’d fight against a fighter with a similar style (I’m assuming he means another Muay Femur)
He basically just says another fighter would have to be faster than him to beat him otherwise he would win lol. He says he’s too fast and too accurate. He doesn’t elaborate much.
I’m assuming he’s referring to Femur fighters here since in the two major losses I’ve seen of Samart, he still seemed like the faster fighter. Dieselnoi was able to cut him off and control him in the clinch. Wangchannoi was just relentless with his pressure and tired him out.
I would love to see if there was any information about Samart’s fight with Samingnoom Sithiboontham. He was another Femur fighter who Samart beat twice.
Cinema lovers of Perth, is The Furious (2026) screening in any Perth cinemas?
There’s so much hype online in film discussion spaces about The Furious (2026). Many say it’s the greatest action film since The Raid (2011). The film was released internationally last Friday (12th June) however there’s no news of it in Australian cinemas.
I was wondering if anybody here knew if it is screening in any cinemas in Perth? I’ve checked Hoyts, Reading Cinemas & Luna Palace. But there was nothing listed. It’ll be a shame if it doesn’t screen here since it really sounds like the kind of film you need to experience on the big screen.
Not sure if people already know, but The GOAT Samart Payakaroon was interviewed by his daughter recently, she’s posting clips of it on Instagram/TikTok. Here’s Samart explaining his teeping technique
He basically just said you need to be fast and have a solid base.
The GOAT Samart Payakaroon explains how he’d train for a difficult match up.
Sketch of Battinson making a snow angel (snow bat?)
Just a quick sketch I made based on Matt Reeves’ recent tweets. I’m so excited for The Batman Part 2. Can’t wait to see what they do. I wonder if he will get a new winter Batsuit this time?
