The "true" recon gameplay

Let's be honest: most players that choose the recon class are just acting as longer ranged infantry, when there is so much more to the class in a certain playstyle.

Here's what I do when I play recon, and what I recommend doing for all recon players:

I have my OHK rifle, binoculars and a wrench.

I get into the most bullshit spots from where I can still overview the objective (at least 300m away for xp bonus) and precisely pick off targets I spot with the binoculars (great zoom with bigger FOV than the scope for spotting)

Ideally you can also still overlook the prior objective and get rid of enemies that flanked undetected and keep them from capping.

After a few kills you move and take a similar position somewhere else, best if you can still see your old position to potentially get someone that was trying to get you at your old spot.

Inform the team of everything you see that could become a problem, like an APC flanking or a specific tank coming to surprise. (If possible you can sometimes take care of the tank yourself if the driver happens to look out of the hatch)

Vice versa, read the team chat and try to take care of e.g. other snipers. Because you are the class that is meant to operate behind enemy lines and take care of problems nobody else can reach at that moment.

You have a motorbike, the fastest land vehicle in the game, make use of it and don't be afraid to take long routes to stay undetected.

This way I once had my team getting problems by a sniper in the watchtower at O2 in mountain town, so I spawned back at C1, drove over to the D Line on the left (not active in that battle) took position in the house on the hill at D3 and got rid of that sniper. Then I moved over to the hills on the other side of the river from where I could overlook O2 perfectly and pick off defenders from behind to clear resistance for an assault.

Those are just some random thoughts I had, I wish more people would play the recon actually tactical and not just be a sniper directly at the front that does absolutely nothing in terms of actual reconnaissance

Any new NA players thinking about playing, it’s not worth your time.

The plane plague during NA times is unreal. At least half of the games the same group of people send heavy planes every time they are in a battle and proceed to spawn camp until the game ends wracking up ridiculous scores with the insane plane score bonus’s. There are no viable counters to them and the devs refuse to nerf planes in any way. Vief, Visc, and OneOnCom have killed H&G for NA players.

Bots should be removed from a staged match after a certain amount of players have filled the server

Bots are meant to be filler so a match doesn't feel completely empty or devoid of life, yet they do a pretty bad job at it. Not only do they fail to provide a challenge or reward for the average player, but more often than not, they screw the human player in one way or another, serving as more of a nuisance than not.

Here are a few examples:

  • Exposing your location: Such as when you're flanking and not a single human player has spotted you yet, either forcing you to ditch your current route or killing the bot, further exposing yourself.
  • False positives: Especially with players using the default uniform and soldier. A bot aims their weapon at you, so you shoot them back thinking it is another player. You kill the bot pretty easily, but as you do this, a real player is now aware that you're the real threat and is locked onto you, leaving you with no time to react as you've already wasted your action points on the bot.
  • Swarming objectives: 10 bots walking the conga-line straight into the final objective, meanwhile your team's bots (or teammates) are frozen at spawn or stuck in a corner in the previous objective. And as you try to defend, the false positive also screws you up.
  • Backtracking: Also related to the previous cases. Several human players are already en route to the next objective, but then a single enemy bot neutralizes the previous objective in 10 seconds, making it so more human time is wasted on a bot unnecessarily extending the match.

I'm not saying to 100% remove bots from the game (that's just wishful thinking); otherwise, it would be just two sad dudes playing Colmar Hamlet pushing back and forth, but maybe make them stop spawning at 10v10 players so that way there's enough players to have an engaging match without having the PITA that bots are.

Thompson/MP40/PPSH/PPS how would you rank them?

I think on top of the list goes Thompson, you can mod it to shoot fast and it has good sights even for medium range.

On the 2nd place goes PPSH with very high rate of fire it’s very fun weapon. Although it’s bad to run and shoot because of the sway.

3rd place is PPS with good sights, easy recoil and probably best SMG for longer distances. But it lacks firerate.

Last place is MP40 I just hate this sight. Although this gun provides vibes.

What mods would you recommend for the Maschinengewehr 13?

I currently have this weapon and am wondering what mods to slap on it for close engagements in points? Should i just save up for the MG-42?

So are APC/APCR rounds always better than normal AP rounds? I have only stuart tank and description says that APC has much better penetration so I guess it's better?

Tank tips

Reddit post
I’m a returning player to hng, and I just want to know how to tank properly. It’s frustrating dying all the time. I know that’s part of the game, but isn’t there something I can do to avoid getting penetrated by pretty much every shot?
I’m currently using the Tiger I.

I just want to know if there are any tricks, like angling the armor. Especially in 1v1 situations when two tanks are facing each other head-on, is there anything I can do to increase my chances of surviving? Should I angle my armor in a certain way, or position my tank differently?
What are the weak spots of the heavy tanks of each faction? Which parts of my tank should I try to protect, and where should I aim when shooting enemy tanks?

Proposed RTS changes

Proposed Assault Team, Stockpile & Production Changes

1. Tank Assault Team Changes

For tanks, we are going with a moderate reduction in assault team size.

To keep the matchmaker functioning well, we do not want to go below 10 vehicles per assault team. Light and medium tank teams will remain slightly larger to give newer players more opportunities to spawn vehicles.

A few extra tankers will remain in each assault team so players can repair teammates or share tanks.

The goal is to find that difficult balance where ATs can:

  • Can realistically be depleted within roughly 30 minutes
  • Still allow an assault team to feel influential in a battle
  • Avoid making individual assault teams too easy to wipe out

Sending 10 assault teams will still be possible, so some battles may still become heavily overstacked.

Some members of the war-playing community have suggested reducing tank assault teams even further, to around 6–8 tanks per assault team. In my opinion, that is too low. Smaller assault teams could make spawn camping and other toxic playstyles more common because a team could be cleared too easily.

However, further reductions are still being discussed and may be considered after testing.

New Tank Assault Team Sizes

Assault Team Tankers Vehicles
Light Tanks 14 12
Medium Tanks 14 12
Heavy Tanks 12 10
Tank Destroyers 12 10
Heavy Tank Destroyers 12 10

2. Plane Assault Team Changes

For aircraft, we are going with a more aggressive reduction, particularly for medium and heavy fighters.

At the moment, medium fighters are extremely strong on the war map. Their assault teams are difficult for infantry to clear, and their HE capability allows them to dominate battles.

New Plane Assault Team Sizes

Assault Team Pilots Aircraft
Recon Planes 18 16
Medium Fighters 12 12
Heavy Fighters 16 14

Note: Heavy fighter numbers are uneven because German and Soviet heavy fighters can support rear gunners.

3. Stockpile Changes

The initial plan is a 75% reduction to plane, pilot, tank, and tanker starting stockpiles.

These numbers may need to be increased within the first two weeks if they prove to be far too restrictive. We currently have no perfect way of knowing how the changes will affect the war.

As a rough target, if tanks appear about 25% as often as they currently do, that feels like a reasonable starting point.

I have also considered giving the overpopulated faction a slightly larger stockpile, but that requires further discussion before implementation.

Plane & Pilot Stockpiles

75% reduction

Resource New Starting Stockpile
Pilots 1,750
Recon Planes 1,500
Medium Fighters 450
Heavy Fighters 350

Tank & Tanker Stockpiles

75% reduction

Resource New Starting Stockpile
Tankers 3,375
Light Tanks 1,000
Medium Tanks 300
Heavy Tanks 50
Tank Destroyers 500
Heavy Tank Destroyers 300

4. Production Changes

After the stockpile reductions, production rates for several classes will also be reduced.

After monitoring the current stockpiles, it is clear that not every resource continually increases during a war. However, some resources effectively become infinite over time because their production is too high.

Paratrooper and paratrooper-plane production will also be reduced in an attempt to decrease parablocking spam.

Tank Production

Resource Current New
Tankers 54 40
Light Tanks 19 15
Medium Tanks 9 6
Tank Destroyers 8 6

Aircraft Production

Resource Current New
Medium Fighters 3 2

Paratrooper Production

Resource Current New
Paratrooper Planes 6 2
Paratroopers 25 12

Overall Goal

The purpose of these changes is to make war resources feel limited and meaningful again.

Capturing pockets on the war map should have consequences. Currently one can lose everything in a pocket, make a little less than profit and redeploy very fast without batting an eye.

Assault teams should still have an asymmetric impact on battles, but they should also be possible to deplete. Stockpiles should matter, production should not create effectively infinite resources, and excessive vehicle, aircraft, and paratrooper spam should be significantly reduced.

Currently there is no real discernible Early, mid or late war in terms of player experience. One of the goals here is incentivize players to be involved in the early war where ATs are sparse and where the Infantry vs Infantry battles that we all love are relatively common.

These numbers should be treated as a starting point and will be adjusted based on how the first weeks of testing affect actual war gameplay.

Here is what the stockpile for each faction looks like at the start of a war:

Here is the starting stockpile with proposed reductions.

Reporting in First Encounter

To players who report others for farming ribbons in First Encounter, you're pathetic.

For context: I queued for First Encounter Colmar Hamlet with some randos to grind driver ribbon to get motorcycle for my assault soldier. A day later, I get hit with a one day ban.

I did not grief the team. I left other players alone and let them shoot bots on their own. That's their business. This was mine.

It's really petty behavior for a player to report another in first encounter where you can literally solo the entire match even with a few bots.

Toy spam has destroyed the game once more.

Almost every match has essentially an unlimited amount of tanks every battle, plane spammers are in at least 1/3 battles. As an infantry player it is just not fun anymore. New people won’t stick around because they are getting killed over and over by vehicles they have no chance against. The only people having fun are the vehicle spammers clicking on everyone else. Something needs to be done about the endless supply in the faction stockpiles that lead to this disaster state the game currently is in.

Anyone else struggles to join a tank vs tank match?

Almost all the time it takes me around 15-20 minutes to join a match that its just tanks, and when I join them the majority are about to finish... Is this normal? Its getting annoying
