Banter Between My Train and Red Miata

You two were sitting atop your red, racing numbered Miata at the railroad crossing next to Shute Park last night, and I decided to lean out the window of my locomotive to salute you guys for the pure, untamed aura you were exuding. Turns out, that started a game of cat and mouse as you guys decided zip to a few more upcoming crossings to stop and give us even bigger and more firm salutes as we blazed through the night as a whoppin' 10mph. It became a "Where's Waldo?" for us.

I tried to stop at the last crossing we saw you at to come down and shake your hands for the entertaining time you were giving us, but there were too many other cars around, so we had to just settle with the brief out-the-window conversation of

"Y'all good? Having a good time?"

"Oh yeah, we're having a GREEEEEAAATTT NIGHT!"

"Train Drunk #102" was the running gag between me and my two conductors for the night.

Hope you guys had fun, got home safely, and maybe we're cross paths again down the line with another firm salute.

Data center lawsuit

Here’s the link: https://katu.com/news/local/lawsuit-filed-against-hillsboro-washington-county-over-data-center-tax-breaks-billionaire-environment-company-fortune-500-oregon-portland-salem-politics-business-jobs-water-privacy

It turns out, our CEO mayor of Hillsboro, Beach Pace, and other council members sold us working class people and our kids’ futures to data centers.

I had heard the Hillsboro school district had to sell land and property to cover their millions of dollars worth of budget cuts and everyone called me crazy when I said they would try to develop data centers on it. “They wouldn’t do that to our kids!” You don’t think these wealthy people that leverage their political power for financial gain CARE about the average Joe?? Cristian Salgado who we didn’t ELECT because the council APPOINTED him? We didn’t vote for him.

The reality is, these politicians aren’t the issue, it’s the system that gave them authority in the first place. The system isn’t broken, it’s working as intended and it needs to be replaced with something better. We can’t keep planting the same seed, expecting a different crop. That’s why it’s important to show up to these meetings! And if you don’t want to do meetings, change the system so it’s not reliant on that.

Please remove these stickers from our community if you see them - hate has no place here

I saw this sticker in the Alberta Arts district yesterday and my partner and I removed it, but I wasn’t sure that it meant what I thought it meant. I was in denial. I’m Jewish and believe in peace and Palestinian rights and freedoms fwiw and this kind of thing is straight hate. Please remove these from your neighborhoods if you see them. People telling me that they are elsewhere in north Portland too.

Pride celebration 6/6

I was at the pride celebration on Saturday 6/6 where I saw a group of maga people walking around with offensive signs, yelling hate speech, and harassing attendees.

They flagrantly broke the code of conduct you can find here: https://www.hillsboro-oregon.gov/home/showdocument?id=30816&t=638526635419179791

“By entering this space, the City requests that you voluntarily agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

  1. You will not engage in behavior that intimidates, torments, disturbs, or threatens a person on any basis including age,
gender identity, sexual orientation, ancestry, color, disability, nation origin, race/ethnicity, religion/creed.
  2. You will not engage in demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior or speech, including but not limited to personal
insults, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ageist or ableist language or any language that insults or demeans the
characteristics of a person protected under U.S. federal, state or local law.
  3. You will avoid any bullying including repeated verbal abuse; verbal, non‐verbal or physical conduct of a threatening,
intimidating, or humiliating nature; or the sabotage or undermining of a person's performance.
  4. You will not engage in boisterous, lewd, or offensive behavior or language that disrupt this event.
  5. Participants who are asked to voluntarily stop their behavior will be expected to comply immediately. If an attendee or
participant continues to violate the code, the City of Hillsboro may take whatever actions it deems lawful and appropriate.”

The protestors eventually ended up illegally bear macing multiple people, including children (which you can see in the first pic), and got no sort of consequence by the police. I, however, was banned for 90 days by officers Ricky Ruelas, Ryan Ward, and Annette Hernandez (pictured above in order) because I snatched one of the protestors phones, ran off with it and chucked it over the fence.

The police failed to do their duty, yet they’re getting a $20 million expansion and $90 million (it used to be $70 million) of OUR taxpayer money to “fight crime more effectively” when they’ve show they couldn’t stop a crime under their noses.

Eugene, Oregon had a VERY successful program called CAHOOTS, in which they hired more mental health experts and medical responders to handle 911 calls and rarely needed police intervention cuz most emergencies don’t require them. Police are trained to treat everything like an attempt on their life to “protect themselves” as seen with their trainings.

Hillsboro should invest in agricultural work and revolution, healthcare, education, elderly care, and childcare.

New police station

Really think about it. A $90 million police building is being constructed; they just broke ground. Police that started as a way to catch escaped enslaved people. The Hillsboro School district had their budget slashed by $20 million last year and more this year, to the point where they sold district property and land, which is now going to be used for data center development.

Our mayor, who has influence on where they allocate money, decided a police building would be a good idea. At the same time, her wife, Jincy Pace, is a commander on the force. That’s a textbook conflict of interest.

Police do NOT prevent crime, they react to it. A 2008 Supreme Court case ruled the cops are there to “protect and serve”, they’re here to “enforce laws.” Well did you know the admin is pushing to label opposition to data centers and AI as “domestic terrorism”? Meaning the police could show up and arrest people for opposing data centers and AI.

A good alternative would be something like the CAHOOTS program they used to have in Eugene, Oregon, where they hired more mental health experts and medical responders to handle 911 calls cuz it’s better to send them to a mental health or medical emergency than a cop with a trigger happy cop.

We should be more angry that they’re wasting our money on cops that don’t do anything instead of funding the schools our children go to! Cuz at the pride event, there was a hate group that illegally bear maced multiple people, including children. The cops could’ve prevented that by kicking them out, but chose to let them stay. So yeah, they didn’t do their job.

City council meeting 7/7

My other post on the other subreddit was deleted by the mods for “pushing an agenda”, so I’m gonna try again.

There’s going to be a city council meeting on Tuesday, 7/7. We NEED to show up. Even if you’re not going to give testimony, get to know your neighbors and community! Soooo many members are dedicated to staying up to date on the local stuff.

A few meetings ago, on 6/6, Cristian Salgado of the city council started live steaming to his Facebook, even though the city streams and posts it on their YouTube page. One of our community members printed out all the unprofessional, condescending, disrespectful comments Salgado had been posting and allowing online. We saw Salgado blow a kiss at one of our community members, Antonia, leading to community uproar. The city council president, Rob Harris, was telling Antonia (T), to sit down and refused to do or say anything about Salgado, who was yelling “prove it!” And “go tell the police then, they’re right there.”

The council appointed Salgado, so he didn’t EARN his position, no one voted for him; the position was GIVEN to him after Beach Pace left her seat vacant after becoming mayor. The council admitted they have no power to remove him, so we have to wait for next election cycle. Salgado also removed his livestreams, which caught the SOUND (cuz his camera was pointed at the crowd) of something, almost a smooching sound. At the last city council meeting, he asked “where does it show in the minutes that I did that?” When the city of Hillsboro has STILL not released that footage and has edited it out, along with the lead up.

We NEED people to show up! Some people will spend multiple hours on their tv and won’t spare an hour to attend something that’ll affect their lives and their children’s lives. Don’t be most people! Be better!!!

Intel Emp/Retirees Anthem/BlueCross coverage change

Hey - I think I may have been living under a rock, but it seems like if you have BlueCross (Anthem) medical coverage via your Intel employment or Retiree benefits, they have been in failing negotiations w OHSU. At this point, per the info OHSU recently sent out, they will no longer be in-network with BlueCross/Anthem at the end of the year. This is true for all their offices and Immediate Care in Beaverton and Hillsboro as well as both the Hillsboro and main hospital on "The Hill". So spreading the word - best I can tell, Washington County has only St V's left as a hospital that will take this insurance.
