HomePod Dongle

Hello all,

I have a 1st generation HomePod that I’m trying to restore as it’s stuck on OS 11.2.5.

I tried going through the GitHub and just don’t have the tools nor experience to pull it off.

Is there anyone that I could pay to make one or does anyone have one for sale?

Can’t play music to HomePod

Hello!

I’ve run into an issue where I can’t play music from my phone to my HomePod. I use my homepod as an AppleTV speaker, and when I try to airplay my music to it, the homepod appears attached to the AppleTV (pic attached) and gives the error “unable to connect” when selected. This issue happens regardless of whether the AppleTV is on, and if I try to play music using Siri.

The HomePod used to appear separately from the ATV and at that point I was able to play music from the HomePod. I’ve tried all of the resets to the HomePod, AppleTV, and WiFi; and all devices are using the same WiFi network. Anyone experiencing this issue?

HomePod Minis say “Network Issue”, and fail during setup after a reset

Both of my HomePod Mini’s are “having trouble connecting to the internet today” (OG HomePod is fine)

I have factory reset one, and when I go to add it back to my account after a reset it gets stuck on “setting up account“ and gives me error -7005.

Nothing has changed on my router, it hasn’t updated in a few weeks. I cant think of anything on my end that would have caused this to happen, as I haven’t changed any home/network settings recently.

Anyone have any idea about what to try?

Got Homepod Mini for $30

Got a HomePod mini for just $30!

Any tips or tricks to get the most out of it?

I picked it up so cheap because I didnt want to spend $100 on an older model that might get refreshed in the next 2–3 months.

Unable to reset the HomePod Mini

Hello,

I would like to describe my problem here, as I haven’t found a similar case. Here it is:
A few months ago, I tried to reset my HomePod mini after a network change. Unfortunately, nothing went as planned. The HomePod mini stayed stuck on the continuously spinning white light. I tried to reset it by holding it down for 10 seconds. The white light disappears and is replaced by the red light; however, even after 10 seconds or much longer, I never hear the reset phrase.

I just tried plugging it into my Mac mini to reset it this way, but it flashes orange.

I really don’t know what to do anymore; I would rather not lose this HomePod mini (it’s one of the first ones).

Thank you in advance to anyone who can perhaps give me some explanations.

What the hell is this sound?!!

HomePods make this ANNOYING ass popping sound when in use with hdmi arc??? I have tried changing the cable, restarting the homepod, reseting it. Nothing has fixed it. It ONLY does it in ARC. Works perfectly fine through the apple TV.

Does anyone know?? This is so annoying

Turning off explicit music

The basic problem is that my kids can still listen to explicit music on their HomePod mini.

I just got a HomePod Mini (2nd gen) for my kids' playroom. I created a separate Apple iCloud accounts for my oldest (5), and his accounts has been assigned as the "Primary User."

When we were testing it out, explicit music still appears in their room, nothing seems to be filtered. My kid asked Siri to "play a story" and a rap song named "A Story" plays. When I look at the settings, there is no option to turn off explicit content under the "Music & Podcasts" section. When I go to Home-->Settings-->[Child account], the "Allow Explicit Content" option is toggled OFF and dimmed (so it's inaccessible).

Are the OG HomePods worth buying anymore?

I didn't realize that's the OG HomePod's came out in 2018. But I currently own two Sony SRS-XB43 in storage somewhere. They're big and bulky. But it sounds excellent. I just forget to charge them if I do use them.

I also have a Bose Soundwave IV CD player with AirPlay 2 support. Sounds excellent as well. But I had to massively downsize my space. So that's in storage with my Sony speakers and CDs.

I been wanting better audio for when I'm listening to music. I came to terms at looking at HomePods. I'm well into the Apple ecosystem. So, it makes sense to look into HomePods or something with AirPlay 2.

I found a FB marketplace post of someone that seems really legit and lives in a nice, well-off area. They wanted to sell two HomePods for $75 total. They decided to upgrade. I messaged them like an hour after the post was live, and I expected the dreaded no, it’s sold. But she got back to me, and said she has someone maybe wanting them Friday. I said, I'll give you $125 shipped for them. UPS can package them. I don't expect shipping to be $50, and whatever is left over is your profit. Since you only wanted $75. She thought about it for a second and said, “Sure. Lemme, find out what the cost is at UPS.

So, It's looking like I'm getting two OG HomePod's for $125. Which I find to be a steal. I think I can pair them together? What's the main difference between the OG and Gen 2? Did I get a deal or did I screw myself?

PSA: iOS/tvOS/iPadOS 27 betas will lock a HomePod into "Configuring"

EDIT: This appears to happen if you have your Apple Home on 27 and new HomePod(s) you try to add do NOT have the 26.6 public beta installed.

What worked for me:

  • Downgrade my iPad from 27 beta 2 to 26.6 public beta 3 using restore on Mac
  • Create a separate home with the iPad
  • Add the HomePod(s) to the new home using the iPad, enroll them in the 26.6 public, update the HomePod(s)
  • Reset the HomePod(s) and add them to the real home using your OS 27 device

Some of you early adopters like myself probably already figured this out but the above is unfortunately seeming to be true as of beta 2. Bought two used gen 2 HomePods and after multiple resets I tried adding to a new home on my spouse's iPad running 26.5 and they configured almost immediately. Doesn't matter that the HomePods are also on 26.5, they still lock when using an OS 27 device to add them. Maybe this is attributed to only tvOS beta 2 but I haven't downgraded any of my devices back to 26.X to confirm. The good news is they can still be used for music and as TV speakers for Apple TV. Just can't pair as a stereo and some other things.

Is anyone actually doing Greenlight Family Hub??

I saw that the Greenlight Family Hub was recently launched. And It finally has the chore functionality I’ve been looking for!!!

So why am I so disappointed??

Honestly, I wanted more Apple integration. If I have a smart display in my home, I want it to check all these boxes:

✅ Greenlight Chore functionality
✅ Apple/Google/Microsoft Calendar sync
✅ Family photos
❌ Music service integration (Apple, Amazon, Spotify, etc)
❌ Smart home app integration
❌ Apple Reminders sync (where I keep Grocery lists and other tasks)
❌ Apple Shortcuts integration
❌ ChatGPT/Google/Siri/AI assistant of choice

Apple is rumored to launch a display-style Home Pod before the end of 2026. It would do ALL these things (except Greenlight chore functionality) AND SO MUCH MORE.

I can’t help but think that Greenlight is unintentionally narrowing their market for this product to anyone who is NOT in the Apple ecosystem.

This could simply be remedied by providing Apple Shortcuts integration, pre-built widgets, or API access. Hell, I’d be willing to pay for any one of these things. I just wish Greenlight Card had addressed this need with software—not hardware.

So now I’m back at square one. Do I cancel my Greenlight subscription and use Apple shortcuts, widgets, etc to build something that works for my family and just use an old iPad (and eventually the upcoming Apple Home display)?

What would happen if more 1st Gen HomePod or HomePod mini are added to current set up of HomePod stereo?

Hi everyone,

I have a question. I have two first-generation HomePods paired in stereo and use them for casual listening and sometimes for movies with my TV. I wanted to ask you all here because both of my HomePods are already paired in stereo. How much benefit would I get if I added one or two more first-generation HomePods or HomePod Mini to my existing stereo HomePod? Would it get louder? Would the experience be more like professional audio? Obviously, bigger is better, but would you guys recommend getting the bigger HomePod version or adding HomePod Mini? I’m asking because I’m getting the first HomePod at a good resale price and I can’t afford the second generation at the moment.

Is it normal to take a few seconds to switch tracks via AirPlay?

Using the HomePod for the first time yesterday and when changing the tracks directly on Apple Music it took around 3,4 seconds to start the new song, is this normal?

User friendly enough for 84 yr old?

I have an 84 yr old Dad that is 70% deaf, legally blind, and a stroke patient. He still uses an old straight talk flip phone. I’d like to get him a HomePod to sit next to his recliner to speak to, ask Q’s, and call people. I’m worried that bc he doesn’t have a smart phone, he won’t be able to call from the HomePod. I have an iPhone. Can I set up his HomePod and setup and download family/friend/emergency #’s on it using my AppleID and will he be able to talk through the HomePod like a phone? Sorry if I sound dumb.

IT KEEPS CUTTING OUT

My internet screams, very capable of streaming wireless to several 4k TV's.

WHY WHY WHY are HomePod speakers incapable of consistently streaming Spotify. Audio cuts in and out. Old phone, nope. New phone, nope. Casting from M5 MBP, nope.

It is NOT my internet. It cannot possibly be my new $5,000 MAC.

I changed my Spotify lossless audio settings to dial-up appropriate pre-Y2K settings.

This is an Apple issue. Why do they refuse to fix this? Like, what is the point of home kit and home pod speakers? Am I the only one???? Chat GPT is like, "well reconfigure your IP to have a separate IP address blah blah blah blah", but now I have to be a network engineer to stream Girls Just Want to Have Fun?

And Ai is taking jobs. <side rant>

Looking at a HomePod for my living room. Like to link it to my Apple TV. Worth buying a HomePod and having it in a corner. Or 2 mini pods in 2 corners?
