HomePod setup is getting stuck

I haven’t been able to setup my HomePods for about 2 months now and I have been periodically trying after new iOS updates. I have tried removing the home and adding it again, and I have also tried resetting my network. Nothing seems to work and the set up card will always get stuck at this stage.

Has anyone run into the same problem? If so, please help. I am hoping there’s a fix because I am not able to set up all three of my HomePods.

2x Homepod (2nd gen) offline after tvOS update to 26.5, adding them again gives "Setup Failed (100)"

I noticed my volume was different after updating to 26.5 and today I realized the sound was coming out of my TV! I go to Home and I see "Network error" for the homepod pair.

I've spent like 2 hours doing all sorts of things: ungrouped, removed, reset, remove from icloud etc.

I'm at wits end with this.

Ideas?

EDIT:

I've tried both of them and both are behaving exactly the same. I unplug one while I work on the other.

My guess: after the upgrade to tvOS 26.5, the homepods were updated and it failed. Last week, after the 26.5 update, my ISP had a period of downtime for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night. If they were updating at that point could that have caused this?

Also, I can't seem to factory reset them.... the white light to red never happens.

EDIT2:

After 3 hours of reseting, a retrying a bunch of things I had already tried, I finally got both updated to 26.5 and was able to get them online.

I think the key was moving them from one wi-fi network, then back again. The "Network error" (I didn't mention before) was persistent until I did that.

The quality of Apple software is in the dumpster, IMO. What a shitshow.

“You Need to Authenticate on your iPhone”

Kind of humorous and annoying at the same time. But I’ll ask my home pod where my iPhone is so it can ding it for me. And half the time I seem to get the response “Sorry, you’ll need to authenticate on your iPhone to continue”. How do I authenticate it on my phone when I can’t find my phone? 😂 anyway, does that happen to anyone else?

HomePod Mini randomly calling people — and I can’t stop it

Hi everyone,

I’m honestly getting desperate with my HomePod Mini.

Every now and then, Siri completely misunderstands something I say and suddenly starts calling people from my iPhone contacts. The worst part is: once the call starts, I often cannot stop it.

Tapping the top of the HomePod does nothing. Saying “Siri, stop” also does nothing. Recently it even called directory assistance, and I literally could not hang up until I unplugged the HomePod from power.

I already disabled “Calls on Other Devices” on my iPhone, but the problem still exists. So there’s always the risk that the HomePod randomly misunderstands me and calls someone anyway.

This is becoming a really serious issue for me because I also have professional contacts saved on my phone. If Siri accidentally calls someone at 2 AM because it misunderstood random speech, that’s obviously a huge problem.

Has anyone experienced this?
Is there any way to completely disable calling functionality on the HomePod while still keeping normal Siri features?

I really like the device otherwise, but this issue is driving me insane.

Second homepod or?

I’m contemplating of adding a 2nd Homepod2 to make the music sound richer when listening to music.

My only convern is that I also have an LG C5 and the SC9S soundbar and as the TV also has the music app the only advantage of having a 2nd HP os that I can start the music without needing the TV to be on.

Guess all is to do with the money/budget. But a 2nd HP and having them in stereo improves that much the sound when playing music?

TCL HomePod Apple TV Dolby Atmos issues

I've searched this topic for about a couple months now and haven't figured out how to resolve this issue. Dolby Atmos used to work just fine on my Apple TVs connected to full size HomePods but hasn't since I guess 26. 3 maybe? No DA indicator, nothing. Sound comes out of the HomePods but I don't think it's DA. I've tried the following:

Wiped the Tv, HomePods, and Apple TVs. Changed my HDMI cable to a high speed, and fiddled with the HDMI compatibility settings. Moved the HomePods to an Apple TV that is connected to a working Sonos system that does display DA properly.

One TCL is a Roku 4K Dolby Vision TV to which the HomePods are connected to. I also tried using the HomePods with my TCL Google TV, so I don't believe the OS is the issue.

Any ideas?

Both my homepod gen 1 and mini have this exclamation point on the Wifi symbol

  1. Both homepods, my apple tv(home hub) and iphone is on the same ssid

  2. All are updated to their latest OS

  3. I can control the homepods fine (ask siri, play music from voice, etc, can set alarms and timers through my iphone)

  4. Notice I cant restart the HomePod , only remove

Turntable with Bluetooth to HomePod

So I currently use two sets of stereo HomePods to cover both TV’s at home.

If I have a Bluetooth turntable am I able to connect it without going via either of the TV (I want to avoid more cables on show). I’ve read I could add it as an accessory via the Home app, but info seems inconsistent.

[OS] I built LampControl – control your smart lights from the macOS menu bar (free / €5.99)

Hi r/macapps, I am the developer behind this app. Disclosing upfront as required by the rules.

Problem

Every smart light brand ships its own desktop app. Switching between Hue, LIFX, or any other vendor app just to turn off a lamp or change a scene is slow and breaks your workflow. None of them live in the menu bar where you actually spend your time on macOS.

Comparison

The Philips Hue desktop app and similar vendor apps are heavy, require a login, and sit in the Dock rather than the menu bar. Home app on macOS is better but still requires opening a full window. LampControl lives entirely in the menu bar, launches instantly, and works with multiple brands from one place without switching apps or contexts.

Pricing

Free tier available. Pro features unlock at 5.99 EUR one-time.

Download and details: https://lampcontrol.app

Dynamic Island displaying the wrong HomePod device

Been happening with my iPhone for the past 12-18 months or so. My stereo pair HomePod minis connected to Apple TV 4K. Plus there’s another single HomePod mini in a different room. Never owned a tallboy HomePod.

Want to say this started around iOS 17 or 18. Could be mistaken. However, the Dynamic Island started showing the tallboy icon instead of the mini icon. If I tap it to adjust the volume, it corrects itself temporarily, but changes back shortly thereafter.

No other issues with the configuration itself for years, apart from this weird bug. Feels like I’ve tried everything at this point to refresh it.

Anyone else come across this?

Is it me or Siri got even dumber recently ?

Using Siri lately feels like arguing with a grumpy old partner who just refuses to listen. Half the time I have to repeat myself just to get the simplest things done.

And I’m not asking for anything complicated — stuff like “hey Siri, play some music” or “turn the volume up.” Basic commands. Yet somehow it still struggles.

My HomePod will also randomly blast the volume for no reason, which is… great, especially at night.

The most ridiculous part? I’ll literally be listening to a song, ask Siri to play it again, and it goes: “Sorry, I couldn’t find Killing in the Name by Rage Against The Machine.” while it’s currently playing.

Anyone else feel like Siri has gone downhill recently or is it just me?

Bit the bullet

Been reading up on these this week and decided now is the time to change. Primarily an Alexa household, I have put an order in for matter compatible bulbs to replace my cheap WiFi ones. Plugs too. Today I ordered not one but two HomePods. “Used very good condition” and “opened but never used”. £300 for both so my plan for them is stereo pair through the Apple TV. Will hold off until later in the year and get a new model for my work desk I think. Then slowly start replacing then echos throughout the bedrooms with HomePod mini’s. Can’t wait!

IOS 26.5 seems to be a performance focused update. Do you think it will be the same for the Homepods and the Apple TV?

Tried the second release candidate at a friend house this morning, and boy, it is smooth. No dropped frames, no UI glitches, there is a real improvement.

Considering how glitchy, unpolished and buggy IOS 26 has been since 26.0, this was a welcome surprise.

I hope the same level of refinement applies to tvOS 26 for the Homepods and the Apple TV, specially if the rumors are true and IOS 27 will drop support for a few devices.

Any place sell minis in store?

I noticed when they first came out they were at Costco, target, Best Buy, etc and now you can’t even find them at the Apple Store you have to order them online. is there a shortage? I would’ve thought it would be a popular purchase

Did Apple silently removed "Siri" trigger in ios 26.4.2/26.5?

I recently updated to iOS 26.4.2 and then the 26.5 beta RC, and I noticed that the option to trigger Siri using just "Siri" (instead of "Hey Sir") is gone.
I contacted the Apple Support and they said: it was part of the „older versions" and that they don't know if it will come back or if its a bug.
Does anyone still have this option in their settings under 26.4.2/26.5?
