Howard Presedential GPA Criteria(International)

Can anyone help me out what the gpa criteria for presedential is(ik in the wensite it says 3.75+cgpa but i heard it's old now and rules have changed)
Also I'm from Nepal and my stats currently are
10th grade:3.75
11th grade:3.47
12th grade:3.8

also one major issue with my profile is that in 9th grade i had a 2.9 or something in the lower 3s range in the gpa

Areas to avoid in neighborhood of Howard University and Washington DC

I am very new to Washington DC and in Howard University. My safety is always my first priority. Recently I saw a guy shouting at another man very badly and was about to hit with a steel water bottle. I was really scared. I don't want to face even a small confrontation with strangers at all like that. I don't know whether those two guys know each other. I don't like to walk much in large groups like I have 3 friends at max and mostly I walk with 2. I like doing everything alone but after past news and after this incident I felt like Washington DC isn't for me. When I have to buy something I have to go outside, when I have to pick up orders I have to go outside. For those who know the Howard University area well, are there any nearby neighborhoods or streets you’d recommend avoiding for safety reasons?

How much political momentum could a candidate gain by supporting a major Spelman‑led tech infrastructure project — and should the AUC push for statewide backing?

Why a Spelman‑Led AUC Data Center Makes Strategic Sense. A Spelman‑led AUC data center isn’t just symbolic — it’s structurally logical because Spelman already operates one of the strongest undergraduate STEM ecosystems in the country. Spelman is consistently ranked among the top producers of Black women who go on to earn STEM PhDs, and its programs in computer science, biology, mathematics, and engineering partnerships create a uniquely deep talent pipeline. This means a data center wouldn’t be an isolated facility; it would be directly connected to an existing academic engine capable of supplying researchers, students, faculty, and industry‑ready talent.

Spelman’s STEM curriculum already emphasizes data science, AI literacy, computational modeling, and interdisciplinary research. A data center would amplify these strengths by giving students access to high‑performance computing, real‑world datasets, and hands‑on experience with cloud infrastructure — the exact skills demanded by Georgia’s rapidly growing tech sector. It also aligns with Spelman’s long‑term institutional strategy: expanding research capacity, strengthening partnerships with tech companies, and increasing opportunities for Black women in advanced computing fields.

Because Spelman sits at the center of the AUC, a Spelman‑led data center would naturally serve Morehouse, Clark Atlanta, and Morehouse School of Medicine. This creates a multi‑campus innovation hub where engineering, AI, public health, cybersecurity, and computational science intersect. Few institutions in Georgia have this kind of cross‑disciplinary density in such a small geographic footprint.

In short: Spelman’s STEM program already produces the talent, curriculum, and research culture needed to operate and benefit from a major data‑infrastructure project. A Spelman‑led data center would accelerate that trajectory, strengthen the AUC’s collective research capacity, and position Atlanta as a national leader in equitable tech development.

Grant Pathways That Could Support a Spelman‑Led AUC Data Center

Several federal and state grant programs could support a Spelman‑led AUC data center. The National Science Foundation (NSF) offers funding for advanced computing, minority‑serving institution research, cyberinfrastructure, and AI/data‑science workforce development. The Department of Energy (DOE) provides grants for energy‑efficient data centers, climate‑modeling AI, and high‑performance computing pipelines. The NTIA supports broadband expansion, digital‑equity initiatives, and tech‑training programs, while the Economic Development Administration (EDA) funds regional innovation hubs, tech clusters, and university‑industry partnerships.

Public‑safety agencies such as DHS and FEMA can support emergency‑response modeling, cybersecurity infrastructure, and smart‑city resilience. Health agencies like NIH and CDC fund disease modeling, genomics compute, and public‑health analytics. The Department of Defense offers HBCU/MSI research grants in cybersecurity, AI, and advanced computing. Georgia’s own state programs can provide workforce development, innovation funding, and university partnership support.

Strategic Impact

A Spelman‑centered initiative could strengthen the states technology credibility, highlight Black institutional leadership, align regional economic strategies, and resonate with younger and first‑generation voters by championing HBCU‑rooted tech development.

Discussion Prompt

How much political momentum could a candidate gain by supporting a major HBCU‑led tech infrastructure project — and should the AUC push for statewide backing?

Real cost of living while attending Howard?

Hi guys,

After recieving a response from Howard and talking to their counselor I am a little more encouraged and confident about applying to Howard next year and hopefully getting addmitted.

I'm wondering though, how much is your real cost of living? The cost sheet they have presented me with states 19k A YEAR! But that does not sound realistic at all. So I'd like to hear from those that do not live in dorms, how much is your yearly cost of living? Rent/transport/food/lifestyle...Do you have a car? And if so how much are you paying for parking in and off campus.

Just trying to plan and be prepared. So any additional info/tips you think might be helpful is very welcome.

You Matter!

Hello. I know this probably sounds embarrassing. Maybe even pathetic to some people. But honestly, I don't really care anymore. This is my life, this is where I'm at, and I'm just being real about it. Before anybody leaves some rude or negative comment, just remember we're all human. Nobody has everything figured out. Sometimes you get stuck. Sometimes you need a little help. And sometimes you just have to swallow your pride and ask for it. My name is Ezekeial. I'm 18, and I'm getting ready to move into my dorm at Howard University for my freshman year. I'll be studying psychology, and my long-term goal is to go to grad school and become a Licensed Counseling Psychologist. I've been working at a local print shop since I was 15. I've literally been saving every penny I could for college. I live with my aunt, and she basically raised me. My parents aren't really in the picture, and they have their reasons. I'm the youngest of six, and everybody else is grown and doing their own thing now. My parents divorced in 2023. My dad remarried a couple years later, and my mom is out living her life. She doesn't call me, she doesn't text me, she doesn't really check up on me. And honestly, I don't blame her. I don't blame my dad either. My mom went through a lot. I mean, raising SIX kids is a lot by itself. She needed a break. She deserves to live her life and be happy, and I genuinely hope she gets everything she wants. Same with my dad. I don't have any hate toward either of them. I just had to figure some things out on my own. And I've wanted college for a LONG time. Like, since middle school. I used to literally think about college all the time. I'd think about what my dorm would look like, what classes I'd take, what campus would be like, who I'd meet, what my life would finally look like. And now I'm actually here. I'm about to move into Howard University. It's honestly crazy to even type that. I've saved enough money for about three years. Every paycheck, every little bit I could put away went toward tuition, books, housing, food, whatever I knew I'd need. With my financial aid, I've been able to make it work. I plan on working while I'm in college too, and I'll figure out that fourth year when I get there. I'm not asking somebody to pay for my whole college education. I've been working toward this myself since I was 15. I'm just at the point where there's a few things I genuinely can't afford right now. There's about 8 things left on my Amazon dorm registry that I haven't been able to get because money is tight. That's literally why I'm making this post. I feel stupid even asking, but something in me said to just ask anyway. If you can help, thank you. Seriously. If you can't, that's completely okay. Even sharing this helps. And to everybody who's already bought something from my list or helped me in any way, I don't think you understand how much I appreciate it. I'm just trying to get myself to this next chapter. I've been through things I don't really talk about, and I'm sure a lot of people have too. But I'm still here. I'm still working. I'm still trying. And I'm still excited about what's ahead of me. So if you're reading this and you're struggling too, please don't think your situation is going to be your whole life. I know that's easier said than done. I've had plenty of moments where I didn't know how I was going to get from one point to the next. Sometimes you just have to keep going even when you don't have the whole plan figured out. Keep hope. Pray if you pray. Take a break when you need one. Ask for help when you need it. And don't be ashamed of needing somebody sometimes. I spent years dreaming about college, and somehow I'm actually about to walk into my dorm. That's enough to remind me that things really can change. Thank you to anybody who read all of this. And thank you to everybody who's helped me get here. God bless you all. 💙🙏

Chance me for Howard + scholarship chances

ACT: 25 (😭 retaking)

Political Science + Economics double major, Sociology second choice

UWGPA: 3.4
WGPA: 3.8
Class Rank: 140/159

Took around 13 Honors/Pre-AP courses plus dual enrollment.

ECs: Student Body President for two years, Executive President of my school SGA E-Board, two-term Tennessee DECA State Officer, Founder/President of a political society that registered 239 HS seniors to vote, Founder/Executive Director of a youth art and education organization that teaches self-marketing, Founder/Director of a national Youth U.S. Senate simulation, political campaign intern (Congressional, State, County, Local Judges, and municipal elections, thus far), six years with my church's community service group, Bridge Builders, My school district's Student Congress, and a Bayard Rustin Social Change Fellow. Invited by the NCRM to host Dr. King's Legacy Reimagined Ceremony, Keynote Speaker (youth summer camps across the City of Memphis on social change)

Awards: National Civil Rights Museum Keeper of the Dream Award, Rustin Fellow, Shelby County Rising Star Award, Good Samaritan Award, recognition from Tennessee State Senate and recognition from the Memphis City Council.

Essay Topics: About a youth theater production where the spotlight failed and I removed the bedsheet being used for a silhouette performance so the dancers could still be seen. I connect that moment to recognizing barriers, making difficult leadership decisions, and helping other people be seen.

Common App Essay: Challenges the belief that leadership automatically comes with age. I write about helping draft language connected to Memphis Ordinance 5913, which lowered the candidate-age requirement for municipal office, and challenging my school’s seniors-only student-government policy. That resulted in me becoming Memphis East’s first junior elected student body president and its first president elected to two consecutive terms. The essay argues that leadership should be measured by character, preparation, merit, and conviction rather than seniority.

First-generation and high financial need. I’m also the oldest of seven children and have major responsibilities at home.

Howard is my top choice, but I realllyy need a major scholarship 😭😭 Am I competitive for admission and substantial aid?
