Tonneau Cover on SUT

OK, dumb question but I want to make sure. I took over a lease on a Hummer SUT, and absolutley love the vehicle. It has a Tonneau cover over the bed that I really appreciate. Now, the window sticker for the vehicle has no mention whatsoever of this cover.

What is the opinion as to whether the original "lessee" added this cover on their own? In other words, when the lease ends and I return it, does anyone think they will be looking for that cover. I think not, but just wanted to see if anyone had any experience. Yes, I know I could try to contact the original lessee, but that would require me to actually speak with a human. TIA!

BTW, the reason is that I am seriously looking to buy a different used HummerEV when I turn in the lease. The original payment on buying out the lease is outrageous, and I'l love to reuse the cover on a different "new to me" HummerEV!

Road Noise

Hello Everyone, I rented a hummer on Turo and it had some off road tires that made a ton on noise and made driving the hummer kind of hard to be honest. With regular road tires, is the hummer much quieter? I didn't notice any wind noise at all, it was 100% tires rumming through the vehicle.

Some background: Because of the war with Iran, 15-20% of the world's oil supply was cut off about 11 days ago in the strait of Hormuz. The ships that are stuck were supposed to be delivering that oil around now, and now that the oil isn't actually there, the price reaction to that is going to start filtering into the world economy as everyone bids up the price on what's available so they can fill in their shortfall.

The fundamental problem is that there isn't anywhere else to get more oil in the short term to meet demand. So at the end of the day that demand is going to have to get destroyed. That level of destruction can only be done with insanely high oil prices (think $150-$200/barrel or possibly more), which will filter down to gas as well. I'm not talking $4-5/gallon for gasoline. I'm talking closer to $10/gallon.

If you think I'm being alarmist, take a look at the 1973 oil embargo against the US where rationing and very high prices had to be used to curtail a 5-6% drop in supply. That's close to what you're going to see here in a few weeks but with a larger shortfall, and on a global scale.

Due to the nature of logistics, the lag times involved, and the way oil wells and infrastructure works, a lot of pain is already baked in even if everything in the strait is resolved today. You can't just instantly restart shut-in wells, boats take a while to get their destination, oil has to go through refineries, pipelines, etc. And every day that the strait is closed the problem gets worse and the longer it will take to get back to normal.

You're looking at 3-6 months for supply (and prices) to get back up to where it was two weeks ago, and that's if the conflict is resolved today and no infrastructure is damaged.

What is currently happening is a black swan event: something with very low probability that was not foreseen or planned for because it was considered almost impossible to happen. The problem with that is that is leads to complacency. Humans also have something called normalcy bias, which leads people to minimize or ignore threat warnings. Most people are not aware nor prepared for what is coming.

Now, to my main point: EV/PHEV is suddenly going to be one of the highest demand item you can get for personal transportation on the planet. This is probably going to end up a lot like 2022 where shortages of very high-demand cars like EVs led to high mark-ups, an insane used car market where available used cars went for a higher price than a new one on a waiting list, etc. I foresee a point in the near future where something like the Chevy Bolt is backordered by months because of demand, and because the factories for cars like EVs and compacts were not designed for massive high-volume manufacturing like the regular cars they make.

If you were looking at getting an EV very soon, or you drive a lot and were thinking of maybe getting something more fuel-efficient, well this is your golden window of opportunity, because I think current inventory is going to be gone here within a few weeks. Best of all is that right now EV/PHEV inventory, especially on used, is dirt cheap right now.

Buying advice

I need some advice on purchasing the hummer EV. I’m not new to electric cars, had two Teslas and a Silverado RST currently. Absolutely love my truck and I’m never getting rid of it. My wife on the other hand has an Escalade with 8000 miles on it and the dreaded motor blew and had to get replaced. For a loaner they gave her the Cadillac Escalade IQ, which she absolutely loved and she finally started understanding the convenience of EV at home. Although she would like the IQ, I did not want to put that amount of money out and the used market isn’t soft enough. What years hummer would you recommend? Not expecting to get the range that my Silverado does but she does a little local driving (maybe 20 miles a day tops) and doesn’t need as much as I do. What years to stay away from and what issues have any of you had? For me personally, the only issue I have had with my Silverado is the front latch for the frunk. Do you have the same issues? For those with kids, how is the car seat in the back? We only have one child and from what I have heard the backseat is not as roomy as the Silverado. To be honest with you, the Cadillac IQ has a lot less than I would have imagined compared to our Expedition. Thanks for your advice.

PAAK coming to 2026 models?

I've read mixed things about phone as a key coming to 2026 models. I haven't seen anything regarding 2025 models. Does anyone have any real data to support it actually coming to 26 or 25 models?

Coming from a rivian with phone as a key, it's going to be hard to go back to a key fob...

New owner! Any tips or tricks?

Been lusting after one of these for a long time and I finally found the one! ‘24 Omega Edition 3X

I’ve got over a year left on my factory warranty. Anything I should have GM double check or keep an eye on specifically? Any tips for improving driving experience or customization that isn’t readily apparent?

My only complaints so far: my front dash speaker crackles on voice call. If GM won’t replace I may start upgrading the sound system and speakers (who I’m I kidding, I’ll almost certainly do this anyway)

The infotainment is laggy despite reset and updating software

I wish I had more control over the display settings. I love the shadow passing over the terrain I wish it would do that slowly throughout the day instead of just suddenly changing from day to night mode. The white is too white and the black is too black. I’d like to be able to see more detail. A minor gripe, of course.

Random little sounds when driving especially shortly after startup. I would assume just little modules and gizmos setting themselves where they need to be. Anyone else hear these?

Lease a 2027 or Buy a 2025

I'm currently driving a 2023 rivian r1t quad motor. My lease is up in February. I'm planning on moving to a Hummer EV truck, and then waffling between buying a 25 or leasing a 27.

I drive somewhere between 15 and 20,000 mi a year. I'm going to be paying a mileage overage on the rivian. The 2025s don't have the new infotainment hardware or software, but they do have Android auto which I've used in the past.

In y'all's opinion, which do you think is a better value buying a 2025 for something in the $70,000s or leasing a 2027?

Service High Voltage System message but no error code?

I have a 2024 Hummer SUV 2x.

This is the second error message I'm getting on my dashboard but there are no codes whenever I take it to the dealer. This past weekend I was driving and I got a message on the dash saying "service High Voltage System". There weren't any error lights, just the message.
I took it to the dealer Monday morning and they scanned it for codes and no errors came up. The dealer said they're going to need to keep the car for an extended amount of time to figure out what's going on. Similarly, a month ago, I was stopped at a light at my car just goes into Park and turns off one-pedal driving.
Dealer has no idea what's going on. Any advice?

Relaxed vs Normal vs Adrenaline at full throttle?

Does anyone know if these settings actually make a difference when you floor it?
I know Adrenaline makes the pedal more responsive, but at 100% throttle, do Relaxed, Normal and Adrenaline all give the same power?
I know WTF is a different story — I’m just talking about normal driving.

Overlanding Advice?

I've never gone overlanding before and a buddy of mine is putting together a short 3 day weekend in CA. I already have some recovery gear, looking to get a spare for the bed, and just planning on setting up a tent. I've done plenty of backpacking and camping before, but never just "drive out a trail"

  • What is the range on these things in the hills / trails? I read just assume half.
  • What's something easily overlooked by a first timer?
