I'm a new grad recent hire, I got hired for a position that required being in person in one of two locations, with each being in a separate state. While I like the location I chose, there are other places in this state that I'd rather live in which IBM also has offices at. Considering the team is already somewhat remote due to being split across two states, how likely is it that I could eventually be allowed to work either remotely or at a different location within the same state?
Hi everyone, using a throwaway because a lot of my team is on Reddit.
IBM 5 YOE. I was recently put on a PIP with a deadline at the end of the summer. For context, I’ve been working two roles: tech support and internal tools software dev. I got a band jump and raises, but juggling both roles burned me out severely.
I love tech support and my team, but I really dislike the internal tools. Upper management (3rd and up) keeps pushing these tools, even though most people only seem to use them for metrics dashboards. I have a hunch feeling the internal tools will end up be used for head counts as well. My burnout started affecting my PRs, so they moved me to dev full time, which made things worse and eventually led to the PIP.
Honestly, the PIP feels like a blessing in disguise. My manager seems to want to keep me, and the plan itself is manageable. We’ll meet weekly to make sure I’m checking all the boxes.
I’m actively looking for a new role, but I still want to complete the PIP (ish) to avoid burning bridges.
Some questions that I have, hopefully someone can help me answer them:
So apparently, I was the only one on my team who didn’t get a raise this year (last year I got 5%). Although my manager did include me in the Employee Equity Award, I really don’t know how to take it.
I am not based in US if anything
Hi!
I was wondering what it’s like working in IBM X-Force these days.
How’s the team culture, onboarding, and learning experience? For those who’ve worked there, what did you enjoy most and what surprised you after joining?
Tx
Hello, I am curious to know if there is a minimum band for being a manager (or like a soft limit) and if is common in IBM for a manager to have employees with 2 level higher band. Like manager band 8 with employee band 10.
Hi yall,
Applied to the entry AI consultant role in early June and completed my online assessment as well. Application on the portal says assessment under review but it has been under review for about 3 weeks. Does anyone have any insight on how long does it take to get through applications and such? Anxiously waiting for any status changes.
Has anyone received any news or knows about what is happening with promotion cycles in Software? I feel like my manager has been stringing me along with the idea of a promotion for the longest time
Is there any benefit to transferring qualified IBM RSUs from Morgan Stanley to Fidelity when ready to sell those RSUs? Or, is it better to keep them in Morgan Stanley and sell via Morgan Stanley? Appreciate any pros/cons or fee info to be aware of (is one better?) from anyone who has done this or knows more about stock and strategy than I do. (Mine isn’t much).
My thoughts: Fidelity is very user friendly and all my other assets are there (except for my ESPP, which is in Equate Plus). I’ve transferred past employer plans to Fidelity as well. I’d like to consolidate which tool I use for purchasing and selling stock. But if there are fees or other strategic things to consider that make it more advantageous to keep the stock in Morgan Stanley, please share!
IBM claimed I owed them money after I left which I promptly paid on their repayment site and have proof via my credit card. Today I got a letter form collections claiming I havnt paid my debt. Also the amount claimed in owed didn’t match what I paid them and claimed I owed them. Is there a payroll email I can reach out to? Should I get a lawyer?
Hello IBMers!
I’ve recently started at IBM as a data intern at York Road, London. Ig this applies to all workplaces but, how do I acc network and ‘know people’ ofc they say to just go present what you can bring to them, skills etc but how do you go about choosing those ppl, e.g. finding out about someone’s projects without looking like a creep. Also are there any common traps interns fall into, common mistakes that I should avoid.
Thanks a lot guys I’d appreciate any words of advice!
Hey guys, I just wanted to know what if I don't work any day from the office. I desperately need work from home as my father passed away recently and I can't leave my mother alone at home. My mother is not ready to leave home and come with me. Please provide me some suggestions on what I can do as my company is an mnc and not providing permanent wfh.
That time of the year again folks! Any thoughts?
Seems like less “hype” from management this year vs last year so far.. which is fine by me
What's the current outlook for band promotions in the U.S.?
I'm interested in hearing what others are seeing across different practices and locations. Are promotions expected to follow the usual process this cycle, or should we anticipate challenges similar to what we experienced with the ESP program?
Any insights, trends, or experiences would be appreciated.
I’m a Band 10 Consulting employee at IBM USA, and my manager just told me that this year’s raises were basically nonexistent for anyone Band 8 and above and that Band 10s got no increases at all across IBM USA.
Can anyone here confirm if that’s actually true? This sounds wild.
I have not heard anything from my manager about raises nor have they set up a 1:1 to discuss anything. I’m hearing everyone is having convos with their manager. Should I reach out to ask about it? I just changed managers so trying to understand if this is normal or not.
