The Road Not Taken.

About me, I'm an 18F PCM dropper from a tier 3 city. During my drop year, I realised I don't actually enjoy coding or tech. I was mainly considering engineering because it felt like the safest option financially.

Recently I came across IPMAT, and it honestly seems much more aligned with my interests. I enjoy maths and English far more than an intense PCM grind, so I'm thinking of focusing on CUET + IPMAT instead of JEE.

My biggest concern is the fees. My father is a government teacher (~9–10 LPA), and although he's willing to take a loan if I get into an IIM, I'm still worried about whether it's worth the financial risk.

I'm also worried about the PI. I've heard PCM students get grilled, and my communication/soft skills aren't great right now (I'm willing to work on them). Acads are decent (8/8).

Am I making a sensible decision by moving away from JEE to a more niche and expensive path or am I overlooking something? I'd really appreciate honest advice from people who've been through this.

FOR PEOPLE HATING ON IIM SAMBALPUR FOR NO REASON, I GOT MY POINTS(just used ai to articulate better), COUNTER ME IF YOU CAN

1. BS doesn't narrow down your options BS doesn't narrow down your options at all. I'm not doing my master's from anywhere except IIM INDORE OR SHILLONG , so the "IPM = MBA or bust" logic doesn't even apply to me. BS lets you go the MS route, apply via GATE, or pursue plenty of other courses. BBA, on the other hand, narrows you down to just CAT — nothing else. So if anyone's options are "narrow," it's BBA, not BS.

2. Growth trajectory IIM Sambalpur's growth is the fastest among all IIMs. NIRF rank went from 58 in 2023, to 50 in 2024, to 34 in 2025. That's not random — that's real faculty quality and institutional investment showing results.

3. Cost The "expensive" argument doesn't hold up. Any IIM except Shillong costs 20–21L anyway. Worst case, you leave IIM Sambalpur at year 3 — you still walk out with a BSc degree, same ~20L, but from an Institute of National Importance. So how is this expensive?

4. Safety net if you exit early If you leave a BBA early without doing an MBA after, good luck finding a job. If you leave this BS early, you can still land a job off the BSc itself, no MBA needed. That's a safety net BBA simply doesn't offer.

5. Course structure The curriculum itself is way ahead of a regular BBA. It's not just business — it blends management, public policy, law, economics, sustainability, and data analytics into one degree. You get NGO internships, consulting projects, business simulations, and a full-year dissertation built in. A BBA teaches you one lane — this teaches you to operate across corporate, government, and policy spaces, which is honestly a rare combination for an undergrad in India.

To all the droppers out there 🫶🏻

firstly my intro (i was a full time dropper who appeared for 25 ipmat and didn't make it to any single iim didnt even clear the cutoffs)

To all the dropper and students out there who unfortunately didnt make it to their dream college i wanna say its okay its is indeed so hard for you watching all your friends leaving for the iims while you being in a position of not knowing what to do how to proceed i was exactly in your position we were group of 6 guys and every single one of them made it to some iim but i didnt get in any of them and trust me it wrentched my gut cause i also gave 10-12 hours of my day for the prep cutoff from everyone just locked in my room for the whole year still it all the hard work got into vain and it fucked my mental health tbh

I would say cry it out talk it out laugh it out do whatever you wanna do to feel better even if its a bit

and you are just 18/19 you are not supposed to get into top college and make very big in life in this age its okay what matters is did you gave your 100% ? did you learn what hard work truly means and trust me you never gonna figure it all out never even if you make it into abc started your dream startup or land your job in top notch ib or consulting you always gonna have something to figure out so take a step back be proud of yourself how you did not gave up how you gave your all in that whats truly matter and trust me for now it do feels like what should i do i have no where to go every door is close for me but give some time for yourself and you gonna find your way and remember not everyone is destined to get in IIM Indore some are destined to make it even big in the life swapnil bhaiya and bhavesh bhaiya is a clear example both didnt made into iim indore but look at them now tho they still have challenges to face every day but they still dont give up

Champs you all are gonna end up where you were supposed to be maybe you gonna land that Finance/Consulting job not necessarily through ipm but who knows you gonna start your dream startup not while studying in iim indore and you gonna get in that dream campus (CAT/GMAT bhi to h) so dont worry guys im so proud of you all it takes gut to take drop. I wish you guys all the best for your future endeavors. Don't be too hard on yourself kiddo It's okay Take care 🫶🏻

Confused if I should get refund from tapmi

I have currently booked a seat for IPM at tapmi. I have also gotten 325 in jipmat with 93.8 in 12th and 85.17 in 10th. General male. I also might get sggsc bms (delhi university) but that is also not sure as results are not out and criteria has changed so py cutoffs are obsolete. I am not willing to choose iim bg over tapmi, but I do rank du and iim jammu over it. I am afraid that if I get refund at tapmi and don't get either of these colleges then I will be screwed. But also, I don't want to lose the 6 lakhs deposited at tapmi. I need help to calculate my chances at iim jammu and du. Also attached cuet scorecard. Please help🙏

Can someone please explain what are they even upto, its so freaking frustrating at this point, a good waitlist number but still no update! its very stressing for the one's who have tapmi's ipm as the only option and it feels like a question mark state rn!

If someone knows anything, any news from the department then please let us knoww.

Decided to keep NALSAR as my backup, can you tell me if I'll get IPM at it?

I'm asking you this for the last time before I fill in the token fee of 1L 😭

AIR-69, can I get NALSAR IPM for SURE?

Also, a good thing is that I'm eligible for scholarships at NALSAR.

Why is IIM INDORE's ipm programme better than IIM Shilong ipm programme?

I meant, as you can see, IIM indore offers BA+MBA whereas IIM Shilong offers BBA+MBA
if you ask me, BBA>BA and average package of indore and shilong as well are almost same right?

I may be wrong, i am just asking, it's a curiosity typa thing.
