Sharing my experience and transition. If you resonate, that's great. If you feel motivated, amazing. If you could help, I'll be grateful.

I did my Doctor of Pharmacy course in 2016 and graduated around 2021–22. At that point, I honestly didn’t know what I was supposed to do or where the degree would take me. During COVID, I saw a lot of people move into Clinical SAS, but by the time I started looking seriously, the market had become much harder. Even having a SAS certification didn’t necessarily make a difference.

So I decided to look at companies building AI in healthcare. I joined a company working heavily with oncology AI and real-world data, and stayed there for almost three years. That experience made me realise how valuable oncology experience can be in pharma, so I stuck with it. I later had an opportunity to become a team lead at another company for significantly better pay, but I turned it down because I couldn’t see a long-term career trajectory there.

I then wanted to move closer to clinical research. By that point, I was already experienced and companies were increasingly hiring freshers for entry-level clinical research roles at very low salaries. I was even rejected once because I was considered overqualified. Looking back, I sometimes regret turning down an early opportunity where I could have worked across clinical research, data management and trial coordination, simply because the salary was around ₹20,000.

So, if you’re a recent graduate and want to build a career in healthcare corporates, my advice would be: if you get an opportunity to work in clinical research, even as a Clinical Research Coordinator or Associate, take it for six months or a year if you can. That experience can make future transitions much easier.

Today, I work for a company that operates around clinical research rather than directly within clinical research. I have experience with CTMS and clinical-trial-related data, so I’m now looking at roles involving CTMS, trial documentation and clinical operations. But that path is relatively narrow.

After almost six years of working and still being below ₹10 LPA, I’ve started thinking much more strategically about where I want to go next. MSL and Medical Affairs were possibilities, I received calls from companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Novartis and Servier, but I turned them down because the travel requirements wouldn’t work for me. I had recently undergo a major knee surgery.

Medical writing is another option, but breaking into it at this stage can be difficult because companies often prefer people who started their careers specifically in medical writing. Regulatory affairs is also competitive, and although I had some exposure to the IRB side of things, it isn’t a direction I want to pursue.

One area I think people should seriously consider is HEOR (Health Economics and Outcomes Research). It combines healthcare knowledge with analytical skills. Depending on the role, you may need advanced Excel, SQL and either Python or R, along with an understanding of health-economic models. There are several courses available, although some are expensive. It can also be a particularly useful path if you eventually want to work abroad.

The area I’m most interested in right now, however, is Competitive Intelligence.

Competitive Intelligence is essentially about understanding the market and continuously tracking what competitors are doing. Imagine your company has a drug in Phase II while a competitor’s similar molecule is already in Phase III. You’re not just asking what the competitor is doing, you’re asking why. If their Phase III trial is delayed, was it because of recruitment problems, eligibility criteria, safety issues, or something else? What does that mean for your own drug? Does it give your company more time? Is there something you can learn from their molecule or clinical strategy?

That combination of clinical research, data, pharma strategy and analytical thinking is what makes Competitive Intelligence particularly interesting to me.

It’s also an underrated field. Job titles don’t always explicitly say “Competitive Intelligence”; you often have to read the job description carefully to identify the work. Startups may expect you to do everything manually in Excel for relatively low pay, while larger pharma and biotech companies use specialised intelligence platforms and generally have better-defined roles.

So that’s where I am right now: trying to move from simply having experience in healthcare data to building a career around pharma strategy, analytics and competitive intelligence. It’s not an easy transition, but I think being intentional about the direction is better than continuing to move sideways without a clear trajectory.

Doctor or b pharma+MBA

Which is better as career in India??? I am really confused it was my first drop but I didn't get select but I am really confused I go for another neet attempt or just change the path I have thought of doing B Pharma and then MBA from top 20 B school.

Which is better for your option as we only MBBS is hell lot hectic and takes 10:15 years for good earnings while MBA from B school is early job and decent money also I don't want some hectic life.

But then comes the point of corporate and job security.

Anyone please guide or give some opinion

M.pharm in gujarat

Should I quit my M.Pharm?
I’m 22F, B.Pharm graduate and currently in 2nd year of M.Pharm (Industrial Pharmacy).
Lately I’ve been seriously thinking about quitting. I have almost no interest in the course anymore, I don’t feel confident about my subject knowledge, and I really don’t enjoy presentations, projects and the academic environment. My college environment is also quite toxic for me and I feel like the whole thing is affecting my mental health and confidence.
The problem is that I’ve already completed more than half of my M.Pharm, so I’m scared that quitting now will be a huge mistake and I’ll regret it later.
I’m thinking of leaving and getting a job instead, but I’m confused about whether I should just push through and finish the degree because I’ve already come this far.
If you were in my position, would you quit or complete the M.Pharm? And if you quit, what would you do with a B.Pharm?

Senior B.Pharm graduate here , happy to help with pharmacy related doubts

I’ve been seeing a lot of questions on this sub about pharmacy in general, whether it’s B.Pharm, higher studies, careers, internships, placements, Pharm.D, M.Pharm, etc.

I’m a senior B.Pharm graduate and currently pursuing higher studies myself, so I thought I’d share whatever I’ve experienced and learned along the way.

I obviously don’t have all the answers, but if you have questions about pharmacy, academics, career options, higher studies, or just want to know what something is actually like from a student’s perspective, feel free to ask.

I’ll answer whenever I get some time. Hopefully my experience can help someone out. :)

My father wants me to do private MBBS, but I want to do B.Pharm. What should I do?

I’m currently in a situation where I’m really confused about my career and would appreciate some honest advice from people who are already studying/working in medicine or pharmacy in India.

My father strongly wants me to take admission in a private MBBS college. However, I personally don’t want to pursue MBBS. I’m more interested in pharmacy, and I’m considering doing B.Pharm and eventually going into areas like pharmaceutical research, industry, higher studies, or possibly government/research work.

The problem is that my father believes MBBS is the “better” and safer career and keeps pushing me toward it.

For some context, my academics are:

  • Class 10: 71%
  • Class 12: ~80%
  • Biology: I genuinely like it
  • Chemistry: I can manage it fairly well; I scored 87/100 in Class 12
  • Inorganic Chemistry: I absolutely hate it 😭
  • NEET 2026: 262 marks

I don't consider myself exceptionally intelligent or academically brilliant. I'm more of an average student who can do well in subjects I actually find interesting.

My questions:

1. Should I seriously consider B.Pharm as a career in India?

I know pharmacy isn't simply “MBBS but easier,” and I'm trying to understand what the actual career prospects are like. Is B.Pharm worth doing if I'm interested in pharmaceutical sciences, research, drug development, quality control, etc.?

2. How difficult would MBBS actually be for someone like me?

I do like biology and can handle chemistry, but I don't particularly enjoy the idea of studying medicine for 5–6+ years and then possibly doing PG. I also don't have a strong desire to become a doctor.

Would someone with my academic background (71% in 10th, ~80% in 12th, 87/100 in chemistry) realistically be able to complete MBBS if they worked consistently?

Or is liking biology/being able to handle chemistry not enough to make MBBS a good choice?

3. If I don't want to become a doctor, is there any real reason to choose private MBBS over B.Pharm?

The private MBBS fees being discussed in my case are extremely high, so I'm also worried about putting that kind of financial burden on my family for a career I don't even want.

I'd especially appreciate responses from B.Pharm students, pharmacists, pharma-industry professionals, medical students, residents, or doctors in India.

Please be honest about both sides. I'm not looking for someone to simply tell me “follow your passion.” I want to understand the actual career prospects, salary/growth, higher-study options, job stability, and long-term reality of B.Pharm vs MBBS in India.

Thanks in advance.

Is bpharm in India worth it?

I’m planning to do B.Pharm from a tier-3 college in my hometown because my mom is NOT letting me go out for my bachelor’s 😭😭. But thankfully, she’s okay with me going out for my master’s or a job later (ofc, they want the money 🤡).

Honestly, I’m fine with getting a decent placement at first, even if it’s around 4 LPA. My main goal is financial stability first. Once I’m settled, I can figure out whether I wanna go for an MBA, master’s, or maybe even government exams.

And I’m also planning to do a diploma in Data Science alongside B.Pharm, so I can build some extra skills and maybe work as a data analyst too—or switch into something better if my skills get good enough. Basically, I’m trying to keep my options open 😭🤝Drop all your suggestion 🙏 🙏

..

Im going to to take admission in B.Pharm, but it’s a Tier-3 college. Is it necessary to graduate from a good college to get a job, or can I still get a job after graduating from a normal college? Due to some family issues, I don’t have many options when it comes to choosing a college. What should I do during my B.Pharm to increase my chances of getting a good job? 😞🥲 Im under a lot of stress because of this.
