ITC has corrected from ~₹500 to around ₹290. Is this a good time to enter, or is HDFC Bank a better buy?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to invest around ₹10,000 in one stock and I'm currently confused between ITC and HDFC Bank.

ITC has corrected significantly from its peak of around ₹500 in September 2024 to around ₹290 now (around a 40–45% correction). From what I've read, the correction seems to be due to multiple factors:

  • Slower growth in the FMCG business.
  • Concerns over future cigarette tax/regulatory risks.
  • Valuation correction after a strong rally.
  • Investors rotating towards sectors with higher growth expectations.

However, despite the correction, the company still seems fundamentally strong:

  • Strong balance sheet with very little debt.
  • Healthy cash flows.
  • Consistent profitability.
  • Diversified businesses (Cigarettes, FMCG, Hotels, Paperboards, Agri, etc.).

On the other hand, HDFC Bank has also corrected, but much less. It's one of India's best private sector banks with a strong long-term track record, and many believe it could benefit as banking growth improves.

My investment horizon:

  • Minimum: 3–6 months
  • Maximum: 1–2 years

My goal is capital appreciation, not dividend income. I'm looking for around 20–30% returns over the next 1–2 years if possible (I understand there are no guarantees).

So I have a few questions:

  1. Is ITC currently a good entry after this correction, or is there still downside?
  2. Between ITC and HDFC Bank, which would you choose today and why?
  3. If you wouldn't buy either, which stock would you suggest instead in the current market and why?

I'm open to all opinions and would really appreciate hearing both bullish and bearish views before making my decision.

Thanks in advance! 😊

I am 23 and this is my portfolio. What should I buy/sell. My target is long term investing. Give suggestions.

I am not sure about the stocks in loss and what quantity should I update or subtract to better gain results. Should I invest in gold and silver mutual funds or ETFs?

Need suggestions to sell and breakeven without any loss

I am a college student, and I mostly invest my pocket money. I've been doing this for more than 6 months, and here is my stock portfolio.

As you can see, most of them are at a loss. Also, I have over-diversified my 6000 rupees out of curiosity.

I am thinking about putting all this money in a mutual fund. So that i need not spend much time on doing stock analysis and checking charts. Also, I have already invested around 10000 rupees in a small cap, flexi cap, and an index fund.

But if I sell, all of it will end up in a loss. I dont want my 6 months of investment journey to go negative. Also, things to consider are brokerage, dp charges, and other charges applicable, too. If I sell all of them now, I'd be at a loss of 300-350 rupees, including all these charges.

Is there any way to minimize this loss and exit by not making any loss (or any profit)?

Should I stop using MTF for swing trades?

Hi guys, I think it's an amazing tool. You get loan essentially at 7.5% interest. I started using MTF 3 months back, already up by 5.3% (was up more than 10% a few weeks back).

Is there someone that I'm missing?

I'm investing only in high conviction stocks and gold and silver etfs.

I'm not new to the markets, but not a professional either.

Need you opinions on this!

Portfolio went from ₹30L to ₹50L+ in 3 months. No fresh capital added.

Just wanted to share my last 3 months portfolio journey.

On 30th March, my portfolio was around ₹29.28L.
By early July, it crossed ₹50.17L.

Before anyone says “you must have added more money”, I didn’t add even a single rupee of fresh capital during this period.

The invested value changed because I booked profits in some stocks and rotated that money into newer opportunities. So it may look like fresh investment, but it is basically recycled capital from profit-booking and reinvestment.

My portfolio XIRR is currently around 35%+, while the benchmark shown there, NIFTY Smallcap 250, is around 8.23%.

The biggest reason this happened was concentration. I usually hold only 8-10 stocks max, and I try to stay focused on strong catalysts instead of spreading money across 25-30 names.

Some stocks that really helped during this period were names like Sterlite Tech, Sky Gold, Suven, Wock and a few other small-cap moves that played out strongly after March.

Of course, this also works both ways. A concentrated portfolio can make your returns look beautiful when you are right, but it can also punch you in the face when you are wrong. So I’m not saying this is the best strategy for everyone.

Penny stocks recommendations

So I have saved up a bit of money ~30-40k and I want to invest in penny stocks. As a novice I am seeking guidance and recommendations from the seniors, people with a lot more experience and knowledge than me.

Thanks in advance!

IOL Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals - My trade

Disc: Not a recommendation

When market fell in Q1 2026, I bought IOL CP shares worth Rs. 50,000 at Rs. 90. Sold it at Rs.135 with 50% profit and was so proud, like literally 'apun ich bagwaan hay'. Saw the shareholding pattern today:

June 2026: Promoter 62.28% (+4.80%) · FII 4.87% (+3.15%) · DII 0.43% (+0.41%) · Public 32.42% (-8.36%) No. of Shareholders 1,19,311

March 2026: Promoter 57.48% · FII 1.72% · DII 0.02% · Public 40.78% No. of Shareholders 1,31,550

Lesson learnt: Understanding the fundamentals of business is more important than 'apun ichi bagwaan' hay attitude

Hold or sell?

Hi all, I'm new to investing and still learning about stocks and mutual funds. My total portfolio is around ₹40k. I got an ipo allotment of Amagi Media Labs and have been holding it since Jan. Would you suggest holding it for the long term or selling it? I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks!
