Moving Aboard or Staying in India

I’m an IT professional from India with around 7 years of experience in the maritime industry.

I recently had an opportunity to relocate permanently to Rome, Italy with my current employer. It was something I had wanted for a long time.

Approximately €2,300 net per month, with no company accommodation. Rent would likely be around €1,000/month, and I also have family responsibilities and long-term financial goals.

After a lot of thought, I decided to decline Rome and accept another opportunity in India with package of (83,000 per month). My plan is to use the next few years to develop further in cloud, cybersecurity, networking and infrastructure, and potentially look for an international opportunity again later.

Financially, I felt that unless I could save around ₹1 lakh per month, moving abroad wouldn't provide enough advantage compared with staying in India.

The difficult part is that I still wonder whether I have made a mistake. The overseas opportunity was rare, and I worry that I may regret not taking the chance when I'm older.

Would you have taken the €45k aboard opportunity, or would you have made the same decision and stayed in India to build your career further before trying abroad again?

any NRIs who want to invest into indian real-estate but haven't been able to?

some background about me: i'm a software engineer, but my extended family has been into real estate (buying, selling, leasing) for a long time

just a curious question to everyone on the sub, i'm trying to judge if there are people who:

- want to invest into indian real estate

- but haven't due to [insert reason]

^ i'm curious to know and understand the reason, maybe it's transparency, maybe it's arranging the required cash, maybe it's just you haven't found anyone trustworthy to do it through, and maybe it's just daunting to search where to invest

and depending on the conversation maybe i could connect you with someone meaningful who could help you out

India ranks 3rd globally for Trust in business, government, media & NGOs

According to the 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer, India has a Trust Index score of 74, placing it among the highest-trust societies surveyed well above the global average of 57.

Trust influences how societies cooperate, build institutions, do business, and solve collective problems.

How important do you think trust is to a nation's long-term success?

New VFS Global update for Indian Visa & OCI applicants

If you're planning to apply for an Indian Visa or OCI, there's an important change to know.

VFS Global now says biometric submission is mandatory for all applicants, whether you're applying through an appointment or as a walk-in.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • You must appear in person for biometric enrollment.
  • A family member or representative cannot submit biometrics for you.
  • Applicants under 12 or over 70 are exempt from biometric capture.

So if you're applying for an Indian Visa or OCI, make sure you plan for the in-person biometric step.

People who returned to India from USA: What do you wish you had taken care of before leaving?

Context: I’m currently planning my move back to India after living and working in the US for a few years.

I know there could be many things that are easy to overlook/miss until you’ve already landed.

For those of you who have made the move back (R2I):

  • What are the key things to keep in mind before officially leaving?
  • What administrative, documentation, or personal tasks do you wish you had sorted out before boarding the flight?
  • Is there anything you forgot to bring, cancel, or update that ended up being a hassle from India?

Looking for advice on everything- from updating IDs, phone numbers, and documents to shipping, health records, or even mindset shifts.

Appreciate any tips, checklists, or personal lessons learned!

As someone born in India and moved to the UK 4 years ago, I don't feel I belonged and relat to British Indians.

As someone who could be considered as a first generation British Indian , I can't relate to born and bred British Indians , whether it's their lifestyle, their way of life , eating habits , culture or anything else . I also overheard racist comments coming from their mouth like freshy which is really derogatory. I never felt Welcomed in their group and I don't feel they really want to make friends with us either.

I have friends who happen to be born and bred chinese, afghan , kuwaiti ,bangladeshi but never British Indian.

What's your opinion on it and have you faced similar experience like mine.

If given a chance to fly to India, how many of you are ready to fly?

Curious! How many of you would pack your bags and head home if you got the opportunity?

For example, if you won a free ticket to India, would you fly?

Would you be interested to participate in that contest or would you still need some convincing?
