WBC Documentaries

I've recently been getting into baseball, but more so the international games than any domestic league. I loved the few documentaries that are on Netflix about the WBC but I know that there are some more out there. Does anyone know where I can find them? I know for example that there was a 2023 documentary produced in Japan and then a separate tournament recap documentary as well.

Would really appreciate any help in hunting these down!

I brought a little rover to a baseball game and this is what happened

One of my favorite things about baseball is the atmosphere outside the stadium before the first pitch.

So I brought along a little rover (I called it Irra) to see if it could add to the fun.

I filled it with candy and cheering lights, and drove it outside LG Twins baseball game in Seoul. I honestly didn't expect so many people to notice. Seeing complete strangers smile, laugh, and interact with it before the game made the whole project worth it.

Here's a short video of it. If your college baseball stadium had one of these driving around before the game, would you say hi?

So has the Italian WBC team have the impact they were hoping for? Are Italians getting more interested in baseball?

I know several people from the team’s front office talked about trying to make the game more popular in Italy. Sample group of one but I met an Italian family at a ballpark a while back, blue jerseys and all, and have had some run ins online.

Has there been an uptick in interest or is it too early to tell?

British Baseball Teams before 1900

Aston Villa FC Baseball - 1890 aka Birmingham Aston Villa as their jerseys show

Derby Baseball Club - 1890

Derby Baseball Club - 1887.

Derby Baseball Club - 1898 or 1899 - Derby where a big team in British baseball. The football/soccer ground changed name to 'The Baseball Ground'. Since demolished but a plague still stands where the ground was today to honour it.

Dewers (unknown what city) - 1898 estimate

Middlesbrough - 1892

Nottingham Forest FC Baseball Club - 1900

Stockton-on-Tees - 1894

Thespians (though jerseys show Thesham) - 1893

Thespians (though jerseys show Thesham) - 1894

Just from some research I have done. I have plenty from 1900 - 1970s if anybody likes to see them.

The 1930s is when baseball took off in the UK with one of the few professional leagues being formed in 1937, the first having been formed in 1890 consiting of:

Aston Villa (Birmingham AV above)

Preston North End Baseball Club

Stoke Baseball Club

Derby Baseball Club

All the teams expect Derby in the 1890 National League of Great Britian were funding by Spalding. Derby had their own funding but due to a number of incidents they withdrew from the league half way through the season. Aston Villa won the title.

Miguel Tejada, Saltillo Sarapes, and The Mexican Baseball Salón de Fama

Saltillo had a mean Father’s Day cap, and the swag at the SdF was a little underwhelming, but still good stuff this season/last season but not really any throwbacks. Great displays, though. Heads up, all in Spanish. Even if your Spanish isn’t great, it’s worth checking out. A spiritual experience for any fan of baseball. The last picture really nails it: “For those who baseball is for is like water for life”

It’s been three months since Venezuela won the 2026 WBC. Has the domestic impact been felt yet?

Now that the dust has settled on Venezuela beating the USA to win their first-ever World Baseball Classic title back in March, I’m curious about the long-term domestic impact.

When Maikel Garcia took home the MVP and Eugenio Suárez hit that clutch double, the entire country shut down to celebrate. But looking beyond the immediate party, has there been any noticeable movement in terms of MLB teams reopening academies in Venezuela? For years, political and economic instability forced teams to move their operations to the Dominican Republic. Winning the WBC proves the talent pool is still arguably the deepest in the world, but until the infrastructure returns, are they just going to keep having to funnel their youth through third-party countries to get signed?

Having netflix as the broadcaster for WBC in Japan really messed up the tournament in the country

Now it's the fifa world cup, you see all those samurai blue fans celebrating in the streets, that could've happened for the wbc too, like how it was in 2023. However, this time with netflix, it was not accessible to everyone, you would need to buy extra subscription to watch the tournament, so the tournament became a thing that's mostly popular among baseball fans, which is already a big group, but it definitely failed to appeal to the more general public like last time
