I love listening to people who have never had a problem, tell me how to solve my problem.
Something I am starting to notice as a not chronically online person, is there is a lot of advice here from the wrong people.
Not bad people. Just the wrong people.
I think we call it "wholesome" content.
Where someone that has everything (or is taking that stance) tells us how they did it, and we should too.
Some examples.
- My wife paid for my education, then I paid for hers and now we are still married and make lots of money... You should do that.
-- What about the fact that the divorce rate is over 50% and that isn't even counting second and third?
- I have quit 3 jobs and never been fired - Quitting is not failing - I can get a job whenever I want - so it is important that you pick the right one.
-- What about people who have been unemployed for over 24 months and can't get a job in line with their degree?
- If you just put $100 a month into a ROTH IRA(?) - you can retire like I did... with 300k in savings (As if 300k is enough in 2026 to last you 10 years)
-- What about those who are seeing this at 40 years old because they never had the means, the education, or someone in their lives to explain this to them?
Anyway. The intrusive thought today - is I am starting to understand why people like people who have suffered to post about their journeys - not a celebrity telling you it will be all right - a wealthy nepo baby telling you how to save money and just "buy a house" like they did in 2004 - or Eat better and excercise when some days you can't even get out of bed.
back to it I guess. But part of being online is stumbling upon the advice no one asked for.
I am not going to call it out to them - they don't deserve that for having a good life. But it is an intrusive thought. So it goes here.
What "wholesome" out of touch content would you add?
