What should I buy after the Ironjawz Spearhead if I want to build a competitive army?

Hi everyone,

I've just finished building and painting the new Ironjawz Spearhead, and now I'm trying to decide what to buy next.

My goal is to play, not just collect, so I'd like to build towards a solid 2,000-point list as efficiently as possible.

Right now I'm considering a few options:

  • Buy a second Spearhead.
  • Wait in case GW releases another value box.
  • Buy the Battleforce instead.

The thing is, after comparing the contents and prices, it actually seems like a second Spearhead still gives better value than the Battleforce (at least where I live). The downside is ending up with a second Megaboss, although I could probably kitbash or proxy one into an Ardboy Big Boss.

From people who have actually been playing Ironjawz in AoS 4:

  • Is a second Spearhead the best next purchase?
  • Is the Battleforce worth it mainly because of the Maw-Grunta?
  • Are there any "must-have" units I'd be better off buying separately instead?
  • If your goal was to reach a competitive 2,000-point army as quickly as possible, what would you buy after the first Spearhead?

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have been playing the army recently. Thanks! WAAAGH!

Newb question: do I have to rebuild an army for 5th?

Hey all, newbie here, I’m like 95% to finishing my
first army.

Still learning, never played. Been seeing all this talk about 5th edition. My question is how does that work in regard to point costs for units? Do I have to rebuild my army, are they gonna have new point costs, is that the usual thing?

1200 points into both armies - which one is more fun long-term, Ironjawz or OBR?

I'm trying to decide which AoS army to finish collecting and build up to a full army: Ironjawz or Ossiarch Bonereapers.

Right now I have around 1200 points of each army, so this isn't really a question of which army to start. I need to choose one of them to finish first so I can get to a full playable army and focus my hobby budget and painting time.

Aesthetically, I slightly prefer Ironjawz. I love the big armored orcs and they're probably my favorite models overall. That said, I also really like the look and lore of the Bonereapers.

My concern is gameplay. In my head, Ironjawz seem very straightforward: get across the table, get into combat, and start rolling dice. I'm worried that I might eventually get bored if most games follow that pattern.

Maybe that's an unfair assumption, but that's currently how I imagine them. A lot of that comes from my experience with Spearhead, where many games feel like both armies meet in the middle and start trading attacks. To be fair, I've felt that way with pretty much every Spearhead force I've played.

For people who have experience with either or both armies:

  • Which army has given you more long-term enjoyment?
  • Do Ironjawz have more tactical depth than they seem to at first glance?
  • Do Bonereapers offer more interesting decisions during a game?
  • Which army would you choose if you liked both ranges, but slightly preferred the Ironjawz models?

I'm mainly trying to figure out which army is more rewarding to finish collecting and play regularly. Thanks!
