If Muhammad Was a Divinely Guided Prophet, How Do Muslims Reconcile These Teachings and Actions?

I was born in a majority Muslim country, so I naturally grew up knowing a lot about Islam. At a certain point in my life, however, I began reading more extensively and educating myself about the religion. One issue that I genuinely struggle to understand is how Muslims reconcile their belief in a prophet who, according to traditional Islamic sources, married a six year old girl and consummated the marriage when she was nine.

The counterarguments I usually hear are:

  1. It was common at the time.
  2. This was what God guided him to do.
  3. Women reach puberty differently depending on their race and geographical environment.

However, even if such marriages were common at the time, wouldn't a prophet be expected to understand that this could still be harmful to a young girl who is taking on enormous physical, emotional, and mental responsibilities before she has fully developed? And if Muhammad himself was somehow an exception to what would otherwise be considered harmful, why didn't he explicitly state that he was an exception? Doing so could have limited or at least reduced the number of underage marriages that continue to occur in some Muslim majority countries.

This is not simply a matter of modern opinion. The concerns surrounding child marriage, early pregnancy, and the consequences of having children before full physical and psychological maturity have been extensively studied in medicine, psychology, and public health. Research has consistently documented serious physical and mental health risks associated with child marriage and adolescent pregnancy, including increased risks to both the mother and child.

Furthermore, puberty itself does not mean that a girl is biologically or psychologically ready to become pregnant or take on the responsibilities of marriage and motherhood. This is also well established scientifically. Regardless of race, geography, or environment, reaching puberty is not equivalent to reaching full physical or psychological maturity. The fact that someone is biologically capable of reproduction does not mean that their body or mind has completed its development or that pregnancy and childbirth are therefore safe.

Another issue I struggle with concerns a hadith in which Muhammad reportedly instructed some men in the desert to drink camel milk and urine as a treatment for an illness. When I looked further into this claim, I could not find scientific evidence establishing camel urine, or urine generally, as an effective treatment for disease. In contrast, medical research has identified potential health risks associated with consuming urine, including exposure to harmful microorganisms and other contaminants. The broader scientific evidence does not establish urine consumption as a medically effective treatment for disease.

Again, these are not merely personal opinions or arguments based on modern cultural preferences. Many of the concerns I am raising have been extensively researched and studied in medicine, biology, psychology, and public health. There is substantial scientific evidence concerning the risks of child marriage, adolescent pregnancy, incomplete physical and psychological development, and the potential health dangers associated with consuming untreated biological waste products such as urine.

This leads to my broader question: how can someone continue to believe in a religion when they believe its prophet was an illiterate man who, according to its own traditional sources, engaged in wars, killed people, married a child, and described women as ناقصة عقل, meaning "deficient in intellect" or "deficient in reason"?

More specifically, how does a Muslim man reconcile that description with the women he loves and respects in his own life? How does he accept the idea that this label could be applied to his own mother or sister? And how do Muslim women themselves reconcile being described in this way with their understanding of their own dignity, intelligence, and worth?

I am not asking these questions simply to attack Muslims or Islam. I am genuinely trying to understand how these apparent contradictions can be reconciled. If Muhammad is supposed to be the ideal moral example for humanity, I struggle to understand why actions and statements that are strongly criticized by modern scientific and ethical understanding, and that have demonstrable consequences for human health and wellbeing, are attributed to him and yet defended rather than critically examined.

My question, ultimately, is this: what is the theological and moral reasoning that allows a person to look at these issues honestly, consider the historical sources as well as the scientific evidence surrounding the consequences of these practices, and still conclude that Muhammad was a divinely guided and morally exemplary prophet?

Bible prophesied the coming of an Ishmaelite Prophet known as Mohammed (with evidences)

In the name of God, the Most Merciful and the Most Gracious

Evidence 1:

Isaiah 42

Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will bring justice to the nations.

Meaning he will be repeating what God tells him, he will bring a new law for the all nations. Keep in mind God is not saying “for the lost sheep of Isreal” but for the humanity.

In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;
he will not falter or be discouraged

Mohammad was persecuted by his own nation but did not stop preaching what he preached, which is Monotheism, same God of Abraham, Moses and Jesus as well as all prophets, to a nation who was politheistic.

I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the Gentiles,
to open eyes that are blind,
to free captives from prison
and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

The Quran is called the Light in Arabic. He came to the Gentiles which is non Jews. He tried to open the eyes of polytheists and he made freeing slaves as a way of worship. He gave slaves a right to make contract to buy their freedom. He made it obligatory for Masters to give them money after they earned their freedom, so that they can build their lives.

I will not yield* *my glory to another
or my praise to idols.
See, the former things have taken place,
*    *and new things I declare;
before they spring into being
I announce them to you.”

He will not only be against idols but also correct those who give the glory which they shall give to God to another, aka clearly talking about christians who worship the Son instead of the Father.

Sing to the Lord a new song,

Meaning it will be a new law.

Let the wilderness and its towns raise their voices;
let the settlements where Kedar lives rejoice.
Let the people of Sela sing for joy;
let them shout from the mountaintops.
Let them give glory to the Lord

Kedar is the descendant of Ishmael, direct reference to Ishmaelites and Arabic world. There is a mountain called Sela in Medina. During the time of Immigration from Mecca to Medina, prophet Mohammad was one of the last ones who arrived. The followers spread the message way before they arrived and the Muslims have grown enormously before he arrived. At the arrival of Him, people were singing with joy at the borders of Medina, from rooftops and from mountains just as the prophecy claims. They were waiting for the prophet to arrive their city and when he finally did, they were rejoicing together.

Which of you will listen to this
or pay close attention in time to come?
Who handed Jacob over to become loot,
and Israel to the plunderers?
Was it not the Lord,
against whom we have sinned?
For they would not follow his ways;
they did not obey his law.
So he poured out on them his burning anger,
the violence of war.
It enveloped them in flames, yet they did not understand;
it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.

Basically God is saying some people will not follow him knowingly because they are not even following their law or his ways, sinning against the God by worshipping other than Him. Their arrogance and hatred will consume them but they wont even realize.

Evidence 2:

Deuteronomy 18:18

I will raise up for them a prophet like you (Moses) from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.

(Know that the interlinear bible is basically word for word translation but if you look at some translations of it, you will realize them adding “from Israelites” at the end. Even when that word is not existing there. )

A prophet like Moses shall be a commander, a leader, a law bringer, a father etc. which doesn’t sound like Jesus but rather Mohammad.

Whatever prophet was preached in Quran was the direct speech of the God, which he recited to the people. Clear parallels to what prophecy tells.

Evidence 3:

Deuteronomy 33:2

And he (Moses) said: “The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them. He shined forth from Mount Paran, and He came with ten thousands of saints; from His right hand went a fiery law for them.

Sinai being a reference to Moses, Seir being the mountains around Jerusalem to Betlehem being a clear reference to Jesus and mount Paran as where the Ishmael settled with his mother Hagar as a clear reference to an Ishmaelite prophet.

Prophet Mohammad was on his return from Medina to the Mecca had ten thousand of believers coming with him to return their homes, from which they were exiled. He had a fiery law on his right hand, which was The Holy Quran.

Evidence 4:

Song of Solomon 5:16

In Song of Solomon 5:16 the original text reads: חכו ממתקים וכלו מחמדים זה דודי וזה רעי בנות ירושלם. The original Hebrew word in the verse mentioning the name Muhammad is “מחמד”. [These letters in English are MHMD and in Arabic are محمد (Muhammad)].

Lastly two verses from Quran to finish with the God’s word over mine.

Quran 2:256

Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood. So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Quran 41:53

We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes clear to them that this (the Quran) is the truth”

Peace be upon those who seeks God with sincerity. May them be blessed with His eternal blessings.

How do Muslims reconcile with the fact that their prophet was a pedophile?

As the title goes, how do Muslims reconcile with the fact that their prophet married and had sex (I think the word starting with 'r' is more appropriate in this context but that will get me banned) with a girl that was 8 or 9 year of age?

By today's account, he would rightfully be deemed a child predator or a pedophile. As a moral relativist, the argument works in my favor. However, most Muslims must abide by objective truth if they truly wish to call themselves Muslim, since that is what their book professes.

So how do Muslims deal with this issue? I've asked this question many times but I've never had a clear answer despite gish gallopping and whataboutism.

Is Islam morality objective or not?

TIL that in 1965 Communist/Socialist philosopher Herbert Marcuse argued that traditional free speech is a trick used by the powerful to stay in power, & true freedom requires being intolerant of pro-establishment views. Society should protect leftist ideas while actively suppressing right-wing views
