Free cats in need of forever homes

My parents are both gone now, I lost my mom last week.
I'm in the process of selling thier home in eastern wa
They have 5 cats that are 6 years old or older and need forever homes
Thier litter box trained and well behaved
I've contacted the shelters and sanctuaries and they don't take adult cats, They need vaccinations and licensing, that's the only big expense for anyone who adopts
If anyone knows any good resources please let me know.

My wife was almost hit by a kid riding an e-bike on a neighborhood sidewalk. This article might be a good read for parents who have kids zooming around on e-bikes.

Petition: ask Issaquah City Council for a moratorium on Flock / ALPR cameras

Last year IPD applied for a DOJ grant to buy both new tasers and to put Flock automated license plate reader cameras at major intersections and freeway on/off ramps inside city limits. After residents started showing up to council meetings and sending emails, the city announced it won't be buying the Flock cameras after all. The reason given was that the price of the tasers in the grant went up, leaving no money for cameras.

The city has said there is no other budget to install ALPR cameras right now, but budgets change, and the next time this comes up there may not be the same level of community attention. While the issue is in front of everyone, residents are asking the council to pass a moratorium on new ALPR systems until a proper city ordinance with real safeguards is on the books.

Council meets Monday, May 18. If you want to add your name, there's an open letter and a petition:

I-90/SR 18 weekend closure update: revised plan due to rain

Spring weather is keeping construction crews on their toes yet again.

Rather than canceling this weekend’s planned I-90/SR 18 work because of the rainy forecast, crews are shifting work to a different ramp with a shifted closure time.

THE NEW PLAN

From noon Saturday, May 16 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 19:

  • The eastbound I-90 on-ramp from both directions of SR 18/Snoqualmie Parkway will close
  • The right lane of eastbound SR 18 south of SE 104th St will be closed
  • The right-turn lane from eastbound SR 18 to eastbound I-90 will be closed

During this closure, crews will grind pavement, do electrical work, pave all lanes of the ramp, and install guardrail and curbing and adjust stormwater drainage.

Crews plan to begin paving late Saturday or early Sunday after the rain clears, then continue through Sunday and Monday. If work finishes early, the ramp will reopen early.

DETOUR DETAILS

Because exit 22 (Preston/Fall City) tends to back up heavily during these closures, drivers should follow the signed detour:

WB I-90 → Exit 20 (High Point Way) → loop back to EB I-90

Residents on SE 104th St will still have access from all directions, but should expect construction vehicles moving through the area and possible delays near the ramp intersection.

LOOKING AHEAD

A few more major closures are still coming as the I-90/SR 18 diverging diamond project wraps up:

  • The westbound I-90 ramp closure originally planned for this weekend is now scheduled for May 29–June 1
  • One final extended “full closure” of SR 18 (only under I-90) is planned for June 4–8 for final paving work

Planned closures may be postponed and rescheduled with short notice if rain is in the forecast.

During the upcoming soccer tournament, no major closures will be allowed mid-June through mid-July.

We know these last few months of closures have been a bit of a grind. Crews are working to get the paving done while squeezing around those spring weather windows. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled. Schedule updates will be available on the project webpage, WSDOT’s Travel Center map and the WSDOT mobile app.

Strength Gyms

Are there any gyms for experienced powerlifters in Issaquah? Not CrossFit. I have no interest in CrossFit. Powerlifting. I tried 425 in Redmond but their barbells were garbage so I’m loathe to try 425 in Issaquah.

Increases Police Presence

Has anyone noticed more police car sirens and an increased frequency of groups of 3-4 police cars patrolling the city the past few days? Is there a safety issue that law enforcement hasn't revealed to the public? Or is just me imagining things...

Laurelhurst entitlement entirely at the expense of children

This was me when I was admitted, critically ill to Children’s hospital. Raves to Children’s for saving my life 63 years ago, and so today I stand for the children who otherwise have no voice.
Finish the work, the helicopters need to land. An agreement is a start but we are not DONE until it is done!

Budget friendly rental options?

Hi! I have a college student that has received an internship opportunity in Issaquah, but needs to find a 2 month rental for that time period, starting in early June until school starts up again in the fall. Does anyone know of any affordable rentals for college kids, or have any idea of the best places to start this search?

Rehoming two tortoises and one turtle

Does anyone have a contact for a reptile rehoming organization near Seattle? Or know of an interested person/family? We have two Russian Tortoises and one Red-eared Slider (turtle) that require rehoming. We are moving and are unable to take them. We are currently in Sammamish. The tank and enclosure can go with them.

The loneliest generation of children

Is it the low birth rates? Is it the nature of being in a tech area? The kids don’t play together. There’s no kids outside. I’ve lived in 3 different neighborhoods of Issaquah/Sammamish area over the last 5 years and it’s been the same at every one.

I’m a parent and teacher in the community. I can’t be the only person who is noticing or experiencing this.

Apartment Hunting

Me and my military partner are moving into the area this July from NC, we’re in the midst of looking for good 2-3 bedroom apartments in the 2,600-3,000 range and pet friendly. We’re primarily looking at Summerwalk and Vista Ridge. I haven’t seen much posted here about these properties and are curious if anyone has any experiences or other recommendations? Thank you!!

A Magical Night With Go Figure!

My drawing from last night!

Blakely Hall montage of last night's Go Figure! session

Some of the work from last night's session. Our artists range in style, age, and experience!

Hi everyone! Some of you may know about this, but for those who don't, my name is Blayne, and I host the Eastside Sketch Society. We are a welcoming, creative community that creates unique, low-cost art opportunities around the Issaquah area! Last night was the THIRD of SIX Go Figure! events happening this year, and our model handmade her costume for this very night!

I handpicked the song playlist, the stage decor, the refreshments, and the lighting so each event is personal, special, and immersive! There isn't an art experience like this anywhere else, so mark your calendars for the last three events so you don't miss out!
