Concert questions

Im not usually a big concert person but this morning I realized that I would like to see Jesse live. Ideally I would be able to see a smaller preformance outdoors (I know he's gone busking a few times) but I don't think that's going to happen for me.

For those of you who have seen him perform what did you think of the experience? Was the venue packed? Was it really loud? These are things that usually turn me off of going to concerts. For example I went to the Stardew valley concert and had so much fun but the crowd was almost too much.

Also how much to tickets usually go for? I was thinking about going to the Boston concert in October but the site wouldn't let me browse ticket prices without making an account. (I'm not looking to purchase/trade tickets on this subreddit. Just curious for budgeting purposes. Please don't try to sell me a ticket.)

Meet the New Swamp: Way underrated song

First of all, he recorded this one in the rain. Dude.

This guy seems to hit the perfect environmental ambience 100% of the time.

The main riff sounds like something from a children's song from the 1990s, it's so good and familiar.

I find myself singing out the line "who do you love now?!" all the time.

Some of the phrasing is so fun, like "and that wasn't me in Pennsylvania, must have been one of your own..."

For some reason I keep coming back to this song in my head, it's like basically every day.

Differences between Powerlines III and Youtube versions

The Under the Powerlines albums are the audio from Jesse's youtube videos released in chronological order. And I love that, considering all the good stuff that doesn't get the studio treatment.

But this time Wild Onions seem to be a new version of the song with slightly different lyrics. "aint Orwellian at least" was a new line I picked up on.

Lab Leak got skipped over. Don't care much for the song myself so it won't be missed, but still an interesting choice. It usually gets cited by Jesse's diehard critics (or haters if you will) as proof that he's an antivaxxer even though it doesn't even mention vaccines. Wonder if that's why.

Have you noticed any other sneaky new versions on Powerlines, either III or previous? Or something else interesting?

Jesse On Repeat: June Edition

What were your most played songs for June? And as an aside, what do you think your most played song will be for July, since Powerlines is dropping tomorrow?

Mine:

  • Domestic Error
  • Fishin' In the Dark
  • It's a Gamble Enough
  • Forever, Whatever
  • Christine

And my Powerlines prediction is I Ain't Got None of My Friends Left.

Fear is the Mind Killer vs Oh! Tengo Suerte

Just had "Oh! Tengo Suerte" by Masayoshi Takanaka come up on my Shuffle... holy shit can I see the inspiration! I was waiting for Jesse's lyrics to start, but they never came! :P

The beginning sounds so similar to Fear is the Mind Killer. I knew Jesse mentioned "Takanaka" in one of his songs but didn't know if it was a philosopher, song writer, or who Takanaka was. Now I know! Very cool.

Jesse, Molly Tuttle, and Sierra Hull - Country Roads

They sound incredible. I may be in the minority but I'd love another strings only album. That said, I'll take a killer one off track ala HYESR.

I've been really feeling this lately, y'all might enjoy

If y'all like Jesse's stuff like I do, you might enjoy this old classic too. The line

"Nobody tells you when you get born here how much you'll come to love it and how you'll never belong here"

really speaks to a feeling I've been having a lot, that I feel Jesse shares in his work. That critical patriotism, loving your home but not accepting its current state, is a feeling it's nice to be reminded has been around as long as we've been here.

I also find the imagery on this and much of Rich's work so beautifully compelling. The second and third verses on this tune give me goosebumps all the time.

Jesse Welles - The Ballad of Big Balls | Masks Off review | ArtistTrack | june 2026

It's more a review of the song Ballad of Big Balls than of the album Masks Off. :)

>[...] you know he doesn’t do “background music.” He does music that grabs you by the collar and forces you to pay attention to the absolute madness of the world we’re living in.

Jesse Welles: Hero of the Day on MaximumMetallica

Out of nowhere yesterday’s Hero of the Day on MaximumMetallica was famous folk artist Jesse Welles. I wasn’t even aware he was a Metallica fan and he did a phenomenal job introducing the songs it was absolute poetry.

“Imagine a world without Metallica, a strange world without the genre inspiring, generational, musical watershed moments, Metallica brought. A world without Metallica or any of its progeny.

It's as if Black Sabbath stopped in 1976, and you said, You know what? We took it too far. And we've decided, along with our pals here, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heap, Budgie, Sir Lord Baltimore, Rush, and Judas Priest, that what we've done here is gone a bridge too far.

And we'd ask that you turn off your systems, and burn the records, at ease, and as you were, put on your James Taylor, and sink into the Reagan years unperturbed. Just imagine that. Now imagine the implications.

That means a world without Tool, a world without Mastodon, a world without System of a Down, a world with no Nirvana, no Queens of the Stone Age, no Alice in Chains, no Ghost, no Tenacious D. I could go on and on. You name it, entire genres disappear from the future when you remove Metallica from history. Now that your head is clear, and your ears are cleansed, listen to these tunes anew, and appreciate what your forefathers sacrificed to bring you the greatest metal to have ever stood nearly upright, and walked the planet. “
