How did the drive belt come off my x354

My son was mowing with my x354 yesterday while I was at work. He calls me up and says that the forward and reverse pedals stopped working. I troubleshot the problem with him when I got home and we found the drive pulley flapping in the breeze, and the tension pulley spring popped off.

The pictures are of everything after it was put back together. Belt seems to be in good condition and is only a year old. Has this happened to anyone before? I just did all the annual maintenance six weeks ago, and it has been running great. I’m wondering if the boy did something to it that he’s not fessing up to…

New S240 Won’t Start

Bought a new S240 from AgPro a month ago, delivered April 14 with a full tank of gas from the dealer. I’ve only cut with it twice, both times it seemed slow to start (compared to our old John Deere mower we were replacing) but it got going and once the motor was warm it was easy to start again. There’s 1.5 hours on the clock. Today it won’t start at all. The parking brake is set, I’m depressing the brake, it’s still got 3/4 tank of gas from the original dealer gas, I’m seated on the seat, the throttle is full, I’m holding the choke, it sounds like it’s trying but doesn’t start.
Called AgPro and they said it could be a lot of things, and it might just need a carburetor break down and clean out which is several hundred dollars and not covered by warranty and we’ll have to pay it off that’s what it is. Seriously? We’re $4,000 in on a new mower and 1.5 hours later we’re having to take it back for service and will possibly be on the hook for hundreds in repairs? Regretting this purchase already.

Anyone have any tips on something I might be overlooking on starting the mower, or any other insight on how to navigate costly “repairs” vs warranty coverage on a mower we have only used 1.5 hours in the last 4 weeks?

Buying Advice X320 Lawn Tractor- $2000

Hello, I was looking to get some advise from some of you.......I have about 2-acres to mow and I saw this tractor on FB market place for $2000.

It has a 48" mower and 44" snow blower. Includes weights and chains. 22-Horse Power.

955.10 hours. Is this a good deal for $2000? Thank for your input.

X350 putting on the accel deep 42 mower deck for the first time.

I have an x350 with a accel deep 42 mower deck. I bought it with a snow blower on it and it is time to get the deck on. There does not appear to be too many moving parts but I cannot seem to get it to go on. I pull the deck height pedal all the way back. And lock it in place. Put the two pins that are on the back side on the pieces where the manual indicates they go. I put the belt on. And then I put the bracket on the front. It only fits in the two holes. But when I release the pedal the deck is as far up as it goes and the pedal is as far forward as it can go so there is no way to adjust the deck up or down. The height adjustment is as low as it can go.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong here? There aren't many places this connect to and only the four connection points that I see.

LX173 steering ball joint repair assistance

Hello all,

The ball joint on my mother’s LX173 popped off while I was mowing earlier and I’m trying to see if anyone has any advice for reattaching the ball joint to the socket. I tried just manually attaching it back and it would go in the socket, but would pop right back out once I tried to do any kind of turn. Has anyone else run into this or does anyone know of a solution?

Any help is appreciated.

Disappointed in Z320R just purchased

Two weeks ago I bought a beautiful Z320R, top of the line (of the smaller model) gas powered 42 inch Zero turn. Having not used a tractor in decades, and never owed a Zero Turn, and coming from a battery powered walk behind, I am disappointed. I own a 1-acre property in the suburbs with slightly more obstacles than average, including fenced in yard, swing set, trampoline, plenty of trees, and some modest incline areas. My expectations were not in alignment with the real life ownership experience.

Buying and storing gas is more of a hassle than I remembered

I live on a corner lot with curbstones and am anxious about driving it off the curb and harming mower and/or myself

It is jarring going over some of the many tree roots I have

I lost traction quite a few times, and had one of the front wheels become airborne quite a few times

Not as much of a time saver as I thought it would be verses my EGO walk behind

Not enjoying the zero turn riding experience as much as I thought I would

I have used it twice and plan to use it at least 1 or 2 more times, and am mindful I am still within the window of the "John Deere Promise" return window. Have others had similar experiences? If so, how did you handle it? I am considering swapping it for a traditional tractor, swapping it for the battery version, or simply returning it and buying the new 30" EGO mower.

Thanks for any stories or suggestions!

Engine won’t start

John Deere S220. I recently did a full service, changed spark plugs, oil, air, & fuel filters, and did an oil change.

I mowed a day after servicing, and no issues , which was around 2 weeks ago. Mowed today and no issues with starting the mower initially. Finished mowing and parked up the mower.

Went to put the mower back in my shed after about 20mins and it wouldn’t start. It just clicks when I turn the key.

Tried taking off the spark plugs and putting them back in case they got loose and still won’t start.

See video. Any idea what else it could be?

Looking for advice on L110 belt/fan issue

I have an L110 and the belt keeps coming off. I think I need to replace the belt, but I see this transmission fan looks like it hits the belt so I was wondering if something else needs replacing as well. Thanks for any advice.

Why Is Engine Surging

John Deere S130 engine is surging, it cuts fine. The oil conversion from the “easy oil change” was done about a month ago and no known or noticeable problems until I started lawn mower today and it running as it is. Any idea what could be the problem? I have included a video. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

How to remove or prop discharge chute

I’ve installed the mulching kit and would like to remove the chute. It looks like JD put some serious engineering to making that nearly impossible. I would settle for something that would permanently jam it open.

The problem is that the chute scrapes against my fence gate.

My best solution so far is to prop it open with some threaded rod. Need to get a couple nuts to lock it vertical (this prototype pictured is my wood gluing threaded rod). I would also wrap the other end with foam or flex seal to protect the chute. I’m just not sure how much damage this will do over time to that little black plate it would be bolted to. I could design a springy version if I had no other options.

Has anyone else been here before?

X590 Discharge chute “doohickey”

First off excuse my terrible photography. I wanted to make something that would keep the chute up for getting into tight areas. There is a square hole on the edge of the deck that I have this in. The magnet I bought is actually way too big to fit over that hole so I have it on the other side to hold the rod while not in use.

The rod itself is made from a 1/4-20 bolt with an over sized washer welded to a piece of 3/16 round bar ~14” long and a shorter piece to make it a T handle. If anyone wanted to try and make something like this, I’d use a 5/16 carriage bolt which is the size that fits that square hole I believe. It’s also long enough that I can reach down and flip the chute up while on the tractor.

TLDR; I’m bad at taking pictures in the moment, but my idea kinda works

Deck pulley stud

So my mower deck went to a screeching halt while cutting grass when the bolt came off of this pulley , and bent the bolt shaft so I’m curious, does anyone know if this is an easy fix or something I need to get cut off and welded back on?

X354 mulching 48” deck, leaves rows of grass clippings on right side.

What is wrong? The grass wasn’t long. The blades are the gator mulching blades. I’d prefer distributed grass clippings not the rows I am seeing.

Just put gas in my mower (it was at half) went to start it up and it wouldn’t start… removed fuel line going into carb and it’s coming out just fine. Spark plug isn’t fouled….. what’s my next move????
